1116122 tn?1268496794 Hi, I get allergy shots for cat dander and pollens. Mine are covered under preventive care and are 90% covered. I had Rush and Rush day is kind of expensive. I take Xyzal (antihistamine) and Nasacort (steroid nasal spray) for allergies. Both are prescription medications. Benadryl works and it's OTC, but is really sedating and you have to take it several times a day. Tammy2009 is right about cat bathing.
Avatar m tn ve had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies. Do you have a dog, cat , bunny or hamster as a pet ? Just wondering. Be well.
Avatar f tn Has anyone know of somebody outgrowing animal dander allergies that lead to asthma. In some cases at the age of 7 required hospitalization. He is now 20 and seems to be able to tolerate dogs in small doses but NOT cat hair of any kind. Wondering if this is a lifelong affliction.
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
7639611 tn?1392877261 The symptoms can also be due to cat allergy. Since you have known allergies to pollen, dust mites and pet dander, chances of cat allergy are high. You may have always been allergic but symptoms may not have been very pronounced. Only a skin test (that tests for cat allergy) will rule out for sure whether it is cat allergy or not. If it is cat allergy, then if you do not take anti-allergic pills, the symptoms will resurface time and again.
Avatar f tn He used to suffer when anywhere near cats but for some reason they picked up a stray cat and wouldn’t you know it, ever since then these symptoms started and have been getting worse. My theory is that the constant assault of the cat dander is causing an autoimmune issue which is making his glands swollen which in turn are pushing on the nerves in his should which go into his arms. Is this possible? Is there a way to determine this to be the case short of getting rid of the cat?
Avatar m tn I've developed severe allergies since moving in with my girlfriend who has a cat and a dog. So severe that I am constantly sick whenever home, find myself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (asthma - I have an inhaler), and hacking up a lung in the mornings. We've tried vacuuming more and bathing the animals but it being a small town home, living in close quarters, it does not seem to help. Now we are looking at me moving out and starting allergy shots.
Avatar n tn When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
Avatar f tn Found out I am allergic to dog dander, cat hair, dust mites and 2 types of grass( kentucky blue grass and burmuda). Bad thing is my daughter has a dog and 2 puppies in her room:(( I hate to make her get rid of them although we may end up putting them outside eventually. The only symptoms I am having are bumps that itch. I don't have any trouble with sneezing, runny nose or sore throat. Is there any way they can stay in the house and get my symptoms under control?
Avatar n tn also to note is that it is possible to be allergic to one cat and not to another. i have allergies to various pets, rabbits definatly... cats and dogs... depends on the pet in question.
203342 tn?1328737207 Turns out she brought them all in once a month for just a bath cause she has really bad allergies and she found it helped with the dander. Only thing with this is use special shampoo and don't do it more then oonce a month as it can really dry out their skin.
531835 tn?1215615037 There is also a product that I have started to use called allerpet-c and it works wonders!! http://www.allerpet.com/ Try asking at the pet stores around you (the one I work at does carry it but it sits on a bottom shelf below the shampoo so not very many people know about it). I would also make sure you ask someone that has been there for a while. They do have research from third party that the solution actually denatures the protein of the cat dander.
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
362249 tn?1441315018 Sometimes as well -- depending on the house, you can mitigate your allergies if they aren't severe by the places you let your cat be (for instance, not letting the cat sleep in your bed with you, even hough that's a bummer).
Avatar f tn they make shampoos and stuff to cut the dander your fuzzy friend gives off. try them and if your throat gets better its the cat. (if you can get puss used to the regular cleanings and be either diligent with the vacuum or get rid of your carpet you might be able to keep the cat even with a mild allergy.
Avatar n tn remember if you get a dog soon, it took me 8-12 months to get 95% relief from my allergies. This means, you will spend at least that much time with allergy symptoms, on antihistamines (which stoppped working for me) and pretty much miserable. There MAY be certain breeds that are lower allergen, this is only because the dog doesn't shed and thus there is less hair floating around. There is still dander on the dog, in the saliva, urine and feces.
Avatar n tn If you are allergic to pollen, cat and dog dander or dust, this is a classic sign. The eye may begin to swell and you can develop a rash. Do you have rheumatoid arthritis? This could just be scleritis due to an autoimmune reaction. Talk to your doctor.
Avatar m tn Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
Avatar f tn Now if he gets in my face my nose and throat close up. After cleaning my room for dust mites and cat dander there was a huge difference. I find it really hard to believe that I could have had a severe allergy to dust mites and my cat for a long time and it just show up one day. Not to mention it was in Jan. so no tree or grass pollen to further aggravate things. If you know of a reason I'm all ears.
9552239 tn?1404989880 Hi Neil, Basically, I am okay. I am coughing a lot this morning. I hope I don't have a cold, but it feels like I may have caught one. Oh well, what are you going to do. You asked me what I am allergic to. Interestingly enough, you and are have some of the same allergies. I am also allergic to dust, so house dust, chalk dust, pollen, grass pollen ( especially June grass apparently ), cat dander to some extent and penicillin.
Avatar f tn I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else. Thanks.
746512 tn?1388807580 1) the allergy cover on your mattress and box spring can limit your exposure to house dust mite, but not to cat dander, especially if your cat is allowed to come into your bedroom, and 2) if at all possible, you should arrange for someone else to do the vacuuming when you are not present and will not be present for 3 to 4 hours after the vacuuming. To answer your questions: There is no guarantee that the nasal washes will provide an adequate sinus rinse.
Avatar n tn ) Even if you were to get rid of the dog, the dander will remain in your home for a long time. So, if her symptoms persist, it would be best to have her tested before giving her dog away. Good Luck....I hope all works out well, and your pup can stay with you.
Avatar f tn I have allergies, dust, hay fever, cat hair ect.... not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. During my last pregancey my symptoms actually went away but not this time...
Avatar m tn Look for a product called allerpet-c, it is a third party tested liquid you wipe on the cat and it destroys the cat dander. It takes a couple of weeks to notice a difference but sure helped me. Make sure you are cleaning and vacuuming well, try to use a hepa filter in your vacuum.
Avatar f tn The allergy would be to cat dander, which as Linda said, is actually pollen and other irritants that migrate to cat fur. The symptoms are those typical of airborne allergies and rarely cause skin itching. However, if the cat has fleas that could certainly account for your itching.
