You can do far more harm than good if you use a cleaning product that is toxic to your cat and the reaction to it could be far worse than the reaction to an un-disinfected floor. I use organic cleaning products that are completely safe for pets (and children if you have those!). I don't think bleach or lysol would be safe enough to use often on a floor where you have pets. The most important thing is just to make sure the floors are clean.

i have a real bad dust allergy and my carpet was neglected for years and i just started cleaning constantly and theres so many airborne particles nothing changes anything just so much dust i think the carpet is ruined..i have an hepa air purifier and a humidifier...

We recently moved into a home where the sellers cats urinated on their carpet. We've had the carpeting cleaned but our cat, who never missed the litter box prior to the move, is now urinating on the carpet. Any recommendations on how we can get this stopped?

While I know ammonia is very bad for baby... our carpet in the bedroom has old cat pee on it from when our cat was towards the end of battling cancer... we haven't had a chance to pull up and replace the carpet yet and I smell it from time to time...

I have noticed that once in awhile, my cat "picks" at the carpet and pulls the strands up. She doesn't eat the carpet, just picks at it. She did it today and I told her "NO" and she stopped right away. My vet told me to try Feliway. It's something you stick in your outlet that's supposed to send out something in the air that calms the cats and helps with urine marking. I tried it and it didn't work for me but my vet said it worked with her cat.

Sometimes as well -- depending on the house, you can mitigate your allergies if they aren't severe by the places you let your cat be (for instance, not letting the cat sleep in your bed with you, even hough that's a bummer).

It was well aired out it had been in storage for over a year, and I shampooed it with cat shampoo and let it dry. Could this be the cause? He is a indoor cat, no flees, no redness or sores were he licks either. I have been in this apt for 5 months now. The licking started 3 months ago! is it the dr. Eseys Precious Cat litter? i've heard real good abt that one....thk walmart carries it, however the Cat Attract type is scented and thats not a good idea b/c of possible allergies, best to stay away from scented. haven't read anything abt the Senior type just read the labels....

She is now peeing several times a day and not just in one or two places anymore. We borrowed a carpet cleaner and have been cleaning and cleaning the carpet like crazy. it could be allergies or maybe mono? if you have not had this before it can present as sore throat that is ongoing but is also generally along with fever, and tiredness and you had fever, a mono spot test if you have it would show up positive 2 weeks after symptoms first apparantly.

Try doing your laundry in hot water to denature some of the causitive proteins and cleaning your place really well. Carpet can be really hard to clean and even if theres not animal there now, the allergens can still persist for several months. Also consider mold as a potential allergen.

Look for a product called allerpet-c, it is a third party tested liquid you wipe on the cat and it destroys the cat dander. It takes a couple of weeks to notice a difference but sure helped me. Make sure you are cleaning and vacuuming well, try to use a hepa filter in your vacuum.

How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! Lucy has been using an area of my carpet for a litter box. I steam cleaned the carpet last weekend and it seems to just have spread it around. She's been trying to bury an area of about 6 square feet- pretty much the entire area I cleaned. I'm going to do it again this weekend and got an enzyme cleaner from the industrial cleaning place here in town- I can't find any of the stuff we've talked about on here. It should be a much better cleaner than what I used.

Of course! What a mess. I not only lost my dinner that night but I had to drag out our carpet cleaning machine and clean the mess up. It did eventually come up but I wasn't a real happy camper that night, lol.

I have no intention of getting rid of my cat, however, since this is the best my allergies have been around pets in years. Other than Zyrtec, are there allergy shots covered by insurance that I could take, or other allergy medications that are prescription? Hi Guys , I am just chiming in to let you know my cat has food allergies. I was told to put her on Natural Balance Duck or Venison soft food as well as their hard food for treats. You cannot allow your cat to have anything other than these 2 things--no treats, table scrapes, tuna juice etc. This will take at least a month to 3 months before you know if it is an allergy. You need to give it time. My cat has now developed IBD and Pancreatitis so she is on the Prescription Hills Diet Z/D. Yuck!

Is this a new behavior or has she always done this? I think I would first take her to the vet and get her checked out to make sure she doesn't have a UTI or anything. Sometimes it's hard to tell. I couldn't tell with my cat when she'd get one except that she'd go outside her box. I'd do that first and if that all checks out then it looks like it's probably behavioral, which could be more difficult to stop. Try and think if anything new has happened in the house.

Anyone else's cat have a "party" in the middle of the night? We frequently get up to find our bathtowels on the floor and the kitchen garbage flipped over! Either our 3 cats are rocking it out or we're haunted!
