Avatar n tn also to note is that it is possible to be allergic to one cat and not to another. i have allergies to various pets, rabbits definatly... cats and dogs... depends on the pet in question.
Avatar n tn I'm a 20 y/o female 140lb.. no history of obesity, smoking, vaping, drugs, drinking, asthma or allergies and I haven't had any recent respiratory illnesses. I do have a history of anxiety and panic attacks. In the past 3 or so weeks I've had problems breathing on and off. A few weeks ago, out of no where, I started feeling like I was suffocating or like I couldn't breathe. It felt like my nose and throat were closing and it was hard to get air in.
Avatar f tn Personally, I think you need to run her to the vet. I had a cat in high school who I noticed was breathing hard and when I finally convinced my parents there was a problem the next day, it was too late. His lungs had filled with fluid and he passed at the vets the next morning. :( I don't remember what it was, but it would have been more treatable if we had caught it quicker.
Avatar n tn Although I am a smoker I had been attributing recent episodes of breathlessness with allergies. Because if my cat had been in my room and I go to bed I will awake coughing with my nostrils closed up so I would get up take Nyquil and go back to sleep. Everytime that would happen during the day if I tried to nap it would always be when the cat was lying near and during the day when the problem would arise I would take Dayquil and my nostril opens and the coughing would cease.
326352 tn?1310994295 The daugher with the issues just turned 2, was diagnosed with asthma about 6-8 months ago (does breathing treatments regularly with Albuteral). She was allergy tested yesterday and came up with a 4/5 allergy to cats. She has moderate to severe eczema being treated with topical corticosteriods (Elidel, Elocon, something else) and has now been prescribed what is probably the REST of the list of cortocosteroids by the allergist. We've tried Singular in the past, but it made her mean.
Avatar f tn ) Every tree, grass, pet, dust mites, etc. These allergies cause swelling, breathing issues, sneezing, hives, and the list goes on. I'm 21 years old. Is there a reason behind a sudden drastic allergy change, or is this fairly common?
1232362 tn?1333135406 It might well be seasonal changes in humidity and barometric pressure or a change in air circulation in your house when the a/c is not running or the heating system is on. My sinuses get a little dried out and I tend to get a little congested myself at night from the drier air during the cooler months even here in Texas which causes me to either snore or breathe through my mouth at night.
Avatar f tn Defintely the right choice to get rid of the cat (coming from someone with two cats and cat allergies), she is too young to have to deal with severe allergies. Do as much prevention with the dust allergies as well and hopefully the severity of the reactions with colds/flu will decrease.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar f tn Really loud and mucus-fulled snoring, pauses in breathing due to build up of mucus between nose and throat. During the day difficulty breathing through her nose so a lot of mouth breathing and wheezing due to mucus. Pediatrician has been treating with nasal spray (for minor nasal tissue swelling), nebulizer with albuterol, and most recently claritin. She had allergy test which revealed allergies to milk, peanuts, soy, wheat, corn, eggs. but no environmental triggers.
Avatar n tn Some allergen exposure control methods are to clean very well daily (vacuum, sweep, dust), keep the cat out of your bedroom, wash your hands after playing with the cat, and shower before bed. If you can train the cat to tolerate a bath that would be beneficial as well. Otherwise you could try wiping its coat with a damp cloth regulary. There are ways to live with pet allergies and keep the pet.

Avatar f tn I have no idea what this could be but i seem to have some allergies so when my breathing gets this way, sometimes i take simple benadryl and it seems to help a bit so i was wondering if this could just simply be seasonal allergies? Right now they said that the allergies are really bad sooo..... Thank you for your time.
Avatar m tn My cat seems to have trouble breathing and then coughs up something, but nothing comes out. He breathes heavily, breathes, then wheezes until he finally coughs something out of his throat, then smacks and licks his lips. Sometimes he just coughs once or twice. Today, he has been coughing all day and now he is breathing heavily and has twitches in what looks like his lung area/sides while breathing.
Avatar f tn Most of the time when he is relaxing I can hear him breathing, sometimes like a wheezing. Could he have allergies? If so what type of meds are given?
Avatar f tn In 2000 I was orginially diagnosed with mild asthma. In Dec 2005, a month after getting a tuxedo cat, I gave him up because my breathing did not feel like I was breathing normally--no wheezing or your typical asthma symptoms, it just didn't feel right. I hastened the cat's departure when I learned you can die from asthma. I ask about the space because I live in a studio apartment.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
7532341 tn?1391693986 I have a retired persian show cat. He has the very flat face. He was a rescue cat and I have had him about 3months. I also have 2 humiliations, I bought as baby's. They are 9 years old and the rescue cat is 12. The rescue cat does not meow but he makes funny noises. He slurps his food up in a hurry then he is steady sneezing non stop and blowing his nose. No discharge of any type comes out. This goes on for quite awhile. He was starved to death and on deaths door when I first got him.
Avatar m tn I have a cat that when his allergies act up he gets that way. I just had to get him a shot ,kinda like benadryl for cats and he snaps out of that. Hope your cat gets better...
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
8924846 tn?1410572901 The cat is unrelated, I know how allergies feel and I know how asthma feels, I know how it feels when it's my anxiety.
Avatar f tn Something I hadn’t done in 12 years. Then I started to get allergies to everything. Food, cat, dog. Everything I went near I had a reaction to. Then I couldn’t be around any perfume or smells or I would get a severe asthma attack. I couldn’t go into my apartment for more than 15 minutes without coughing and my eyes itching and just being miserable. I stopped eating all yeast and sugar and ate only vegetables and protein. Still….no help. The smallest little thing would set me off.
Avatar m tn s difficult to concentrate, memory is getting foggy, my left arm gets weird pressure sensations, my underarm gets this weird pinching sensation, I have slow breathing out of my left nostril (and I personally believe my left lung FEELS weak, though the CAT scan said differently). I've been through the "oh, you have stress/anxiety, here's a Zoloft" treatment MANY times and trust me, it ain't just stress.
Avatar n tn ColdNight44, Labored breathing can be very scary in a cat.. I believe its always best to try to resolve problems through you primary care veterinarian. I have a couple of questions. Have they run blood tests including checking for the viral diseases like Feline immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia Virus? Have they taken plain xrays and what are the results? Based on what you are telling us it appears as though they have gone as far as they feel comfortable going.
Avatar m tn I've had difficulty breathing for 7 months after a bout of bronchitis. Here are my results... Is this asthma, chronic bronchitis?? But my most important question is, could this possibly be EARLY emphysema??It also happened about two weeks after getting a cat.. FVC Pre 6.28 113% Post 6.22 112% FEV1 Pre 4.38 95% Post 4.
Avatar f tn (like fleas) can cause allergies. Not saying your cat has fleas....just saying you might want to double check :) Good Luck.
