1116122 tn?1268496794 I have no intention of getting rid of my cat, however, since this is the best my allergies have been around pets in years. Other than Zyrtec, are there allergy shots covered by insurance that I could take, or other allergy medications that are prescription? My insurance company stopped covering Allegra, which was perfect (bummer). Thanks for your help in advance.
596105 tn?1314580333 Bathing in water isn't really good for a cat (especially with soaps). It strips their fur of the natural oils that give them a healthy coat. A better way to go is to purchase a package of "pet wipes" from the pet store. If you'd rather not do that, then use a damp washcloth and fine toothed comb to rub down oliver of all that mess he gets into!
326352 tn?1310994295 The daugher with the issues just turned 2, was diagnosed with asthma about 6-8 months ago (does breathing treatments regularly with Albuteral). She was allergy tested yesterday and came up with a 4/5 allergy to cats. She has moderate to severe eczema being treated with topical corticosteriods (Elidel, Elocon, something else) and has now been prescribed what is probably the REST of the list of cortocosteroids by the allergist. We've tried Singular in the past, but it made her mean.
Avatar f tn my cat has broken skin everywhere his back around his buttocks his chin . can anyone tell me what this can be. i think it's mange. both of my cats get regular flea baths. no matter how much vaccuming clean of litterbox i do they come up scratching .
Avatar m tn I've developed severe allergies since moving in with my girlfriend who has a cat and a dog. So severe that I am constantly sick whenever home, find myself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (asthma - I have an inhaler), and hacking up a lung in the mornings. We've tried vacuuming more and bathing the animals but it being a small town home, living in close quarters, it does not seem to help. Now we are looking at me moving out and starting allergy shots.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar n tn I'm not a big advocate of cat bathing. I find they shed...and shed...and shed... and that's that. :) I as a rule only do it when they "get into something". but I've noticed some people swear by it and that it helps. I will comment that more than once a month sounds unnecessary and as mentioned above, potentially harmful. Mostly I brush them or use dry wash. Considering how fast they grow fur and shed...well, I can't quite see the benefit of occassional washing.
Avatar n tn I had taken a CAT scan of my head (to see nasal) and the doc said its sinusitis but he changed it as he said it was too little to be sinusitis and could be allergies (I got cat that changed his mind). He offered immunotherapy later on, should I take it?.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
599616 tn?1219704608 Have you tried this product called Allergy Relief From Cat? They have it at the pet supermarket. My husband is allergic to my cat. I was left in a very bad situation when I started seeing how bad it got. I knew giving up my pet wasn't an option so I started researching and looking for something that could solve my problem. A lady at Walmart told me her husband was also allergic to her 3 cats. She bought the product I mentioned above and it really went well.

770551 tn?1305578901 I removed a lot of fleas from Dexter by bathing and combing him but he still has them. Do you know what I can use on a kitten this small (6 weeks)?
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar m tn Dog allergies are very common and due to saliva of the dog. “Allergy to dogs is relatively common, as dog allergen can be found in public places, including daycare facilities.” “For people with dog allergy, avoidance of dogs is the mainstay of therapy. Allergy medications are likely to help control symptoms, but in many instances symptoms may persist if the person owns one or more indoor dogs. Allergy shots may also be a good treatment option for people who are allergic to their pet dogs.

Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
Avatar f tn My cat Jimi has severe allergies. We think the dust is causing it as we live on the desert side of Maui, Hawaii. The vet doesn't know actually what is causing it either . The redness got so bad in his right eye he caused an ulcer which is taking forever to heal and now both eyes are red, bulging and sore. I bathe him once a week, wipe his face clean everyday , have his head in a cone (so he can't rub his eyes) and with the vets recommendation have tried every drop/ointment known to man !
Avatar n tn When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
Avatar m tn Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
7165624 tn?1395647767 I have allergies im wondering if i can buy certain pills or what do you do when u get them??

Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
