440120 tn?1211724496 I've recently been to an allergist because of newly acquired allergies. I'm 43. I developed an allergy to cats in my 20s after having cats since I was a child. I got a new kitten and found that her saliva gave me hives. Since then I've always had a mild cat allergy. I was tested and found allergic to cats and dogs and a mild reaction to milk. Everything else was negative.
Avatar f tn I LOVE cats with all my heart but in allergist to them :(((((((((( whenever I'm near them I get hives! My allergies might be getting better but I'm not sure. So if any1 would know if there something I could do or take besides allergy meds then can u please tell me?
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
Avatar f tn Hello. I'm new to this site. I probably should start off with a few things about myself to help you guys help me. I've been bruising easily since 6 or so. The rashes started up at age 19. I'm 21 now. I was diagnosed with cat and dog allergies. I'm also allergic to soy and water chestnuts. I had my gallbladder removed in 2014. Age 18. Really the only thing that's a problem is the rashes/hives. I have pictures.
9552239 tn?1404989880 I have allergies too and I have asthma. I wish I could tell you when you feel better and feel normal again. You said you had the severe reaction over a week ago. Glad to hear that you are feeling quite a bit better. My best guess would be that it will be a gradual process of feeling better. I am glad you are now carrying a new epipen and a medical bracelet. I wish you well.

203342 tn?1328737207 I’ve been tested in the past for dogs and cats and did react, especially to cats, and I do have dogs and a cat but I’ve had them for several years and I don’t usually hold the cat because I’ve noticed I’ll get really congested around her and get a rash on my forearms. I’ve covered mattresses and pillows with zippered covers so I wouldn’t think it would be dust mites, either, and I live in a dry climate.
Avatar f tn This is not a question so much as info to be added to the ongoing discussion. I too have experienced hives followed by painful daily/nightly bouts of acid reflux and belching. I've lost 8 pounds in a week due to nausea. I was tested for H. pylori(negative), lipase and cbc both normal. As a precaustion my doctor gave me a 10 day round of meds for systemic yeast. I also had a cat scan and that was normal.

Avatar n tn I was hoping we would have come away with more information, and an actual diagnoses. To add to the mix we just adopted a cat a few weeks ago. My husband and I both have pet allergies, but he's never experienced anything this severe before. So now we're not sure what the cause is. I'm worried that this will happen again, and am looking for more answers before we consider giving away our cat. Any help, or insights would be appreciated!

Avatar m tn It appeared again tonight on my throat where my stubble is. I assumed it was my cat at first, but then I got more hives/rash on my upper arms and stomach. I went to lay down and blow the fan on me and discovered my back to be itching. My roommate came in and told me my back was covered in the rash. So once again I'm sitting here naked with a fan blowing on me and calamine lotion. I know you said to avoid the lotion, but I didnt read this until after applying it! But it seems to help...

Avatar f tn Stress is one HUGE factor in the immune system and the immune system, when low can trigger allergies. Hives CAN be triggered by stress and let's face it, our bodies are going through STRESS during menopausal changes! :) Allergies are funny things. They can lay dormant, causing no problems until our stress levels are raised. Our moods can also affect stress levels in our bodies and menopause is a time of mood changes.
