Some here on the board are not real pleased with the Mayo clinic. It seems they have their own set of standards to give out a dx of MS. I personally know nothing about them and wish you the best....hoping for that answer.

Hello, My name is Anatoly Petrov and I have I had a heart attack on 09/21/09. After my bare metal stents were clogged and I almost got another heart attack, a DES was placed inside those two. Since then I have been having chest pains. I am currently on Plavix, Aspirin, Simvastatin, Lisinopril and Carvedilol/Coreg/. Stopped Lisinopril for a little bit and felt much better- unfortunately my blood pressure went a little up.

After recovering from Stage 4 Kidney Failure, after 4 years off Simvastatin, which caused it, my doctor recommended an MRI with and without contrast. I objected to the contrast dye because I knew about the risk of NSF (Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis). He assured me that my kidneys would flush it out of my system in 24 - 36 hours. 4 days later I awoke with both hands clenched tight and opening them was painful.

5 weeks ago I had a mild heart attack and received a stent in the one veinous graft (the 3 arterial grafts were perfectly clear). I have been placed on plavix and 6.25mg 2x/day of carvedilol - and the side effects of carvedilol is my concern. First is the feeling of lightheadedness, which was severe at first, but still remains.

and this is to help keep nasal membranes moist as well. An ENT doctor at Mayo Clinic told me to use this as well, even though I have Vasomotor rhinitis. Hope this is of some help to you I would go and see an ENT doctor though. and be honest with him about your past use of cocaine., as this could help with your treatment of your nasal problems.

I am already looking into takeing him to the mayo clinic, where we are the choices are limied but I will keep in contact.

Has anyone from the MS forum ever seek treatment for their MS at the Mayo Clinic? If so, how was your as your experience with physicians from the clinic? I am considering driving up to Mayo at some point if my neurologist in town can't definatively diagnosis me.

I have just made an appointment for a full work up at the Mayo Clinic, does anyone know the tests involved and how much they charge? Thank you!

I am over the moon excited that DH got a 5-10 day appointment at Mayo Clinic - Dec. 10. Anyone have any experiences on what to expect etc?

i stopped the medication after my doctor told me to stop it. it was just 25mg daily. i experiencing palptation, shortness of breath, diziness all day like i am drunk. i dont smoke or drink. are these side effects of the med? how to get rid of this? its killing me. please help me out..

As for the losartan and carvedilol, dizziness and fatigue are two common side effects of the medications. These side effects are often related to either low blood pressures or low heart rate but can often be relieved through adjustments in the dose and timing of the medications. I would check and keep note of your blood pressure and heart rate frequently (and not if you are having any of the symptoms) using a home blood pressure monitoring kit that you can get at your local pharmacy.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, it is greatly appreciated. My last vaccine was over a week ago, and I have seen some fluctuation of the side effects since this post as well. They are fairly steady and constant, but I have noticed a decrease on occasion so am hopeful they may all pass soon. I’ve also began utilizing OTC pain meds daily which do help tremendously the constant headache.

My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better. The side effects from the metoprolol have gotten a little better, though as I type this my heart rate is 52 bpm. Does any one have any comments on the pros and cons of carvedilol versus metoprolol? I'm not sure I want to switch if the side effects will be the same. Does anyone have experience with metoprolol?

Is there something that I can do to combat the yucky side effects? Also, what about surgery? I do have a Dr. at Mayo that suggests a consult with the Neurosurgeon. I'd appreciate any feedback or ideas... Thanks much!

I have been at the Mayo Clinic for the last week. It has been a very pleasant experience, given my circumstances. They have been very efficient and very informative. They have treated me like a person and not just a number. I am very impressed. I am looking for some personal advice on medications. I was dx with CIS due to the fact that I am not really experiencing any symptoms other than the optic neuritis, which has resolved for the most part.

I've not been to the Jacksonville Mayo or the MS clinic in Houston, I'm sorry about that. I have heard a lot of good things about the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and Dr. Elliot Frohman who works there. I'm sure if you google his name you can find out much more than I can tell you about, here.

Has anyone responded to your question? I was recently diagnosed and heard that Dr. Gray at the Mayo Clinic does have some expertise in treating this disease. Of course, my insurance does not cover the doctors at the Mayo Clinic. I have been seen at the UCLA Revlon Center, but they really have no expertise in this area, so I feel like my treatment has come to a standstill.

I am on 6.25 mg carvedilol twice a day. I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?

Truthfully, I've heard one of the best MS Clinics in the US is the Mellen Center at Cleveland Clinic. You might try checking out http://www.mscare.org They list all the clinics available, etc. My neuro said the clinic at Cincinatti isn't that great but thinks Cleveland Clinic is really good. I've never heard of the Mayo Clinic being highly rated for MS, but more for heart desease.
