Dear p1954 Carvedilol belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. It is responsible for inhibition of beta receptors present ubiquitously on the heart muscle. By blocking these receptors, it helps prevent the effects of adrenaline/noradrenaline on the heart thereby maintaining a low heart rate and reducing the energy expended by the heart per beat.

He has had a very onset of vertigo in the past two days - which is severe when he first gets out of bed and resolves to a light-headed feeling later as the day progresses. It recently dropped to 80 over 51 and the doctor took me off of my carvedilol for 2 weeks and said to monitor my blood pressure and call in two weeks. It has been 2 weeks now. I do not know what my heart rate should be at normal and at exertion. I live in a quad level and go up and down a lot of steps to do laundry. I get winded very easily. I want to feel better.

Doubling Carvedilol can be like a sleeping pill until your body gets used to it. Your symptoms are typical, you may also experience some weight gain. I'm guessing you had a heart attack prior to the bypass. Carvedilol (Coreg) is in my opinion a wonder drug, it can revitalize stunned heart cells surrounding the are area of dead muscle caused by the heart attack, and can improve heart function. It is typically doubled as needed gradually until improvement is seen in the heart function.

Everyone reacts different on medication, so despite the low dose it could be the medication causing your problems. The Carvedilol is of course especially suspect if you did not have the symptoms before you started taking it. I suggest that you talk to your doctor about temporarily stop taking it to see if the symptoms subside. A bp of 140/100 for a few weeks is probably not such a problem. Or you could ask your doctor to switch to another betablocker.

You might ask your Cardiologist to put you on 3.175mg carvedilol twice a day instead of 6.25 twice a day if this is your first experience with it. It is a powerful drug. I started with the 3.175 dose X 2, and it gave me a lot of symptoms such as exhaustion and I do recall a lazy peristalsis (swallowing) issue, but my body got used to it, and he doubled it, then doubled it again.

To help with anxiety, my cardiologist took me off an ACE inhibitor and put me on 12.5 mg of carvedilol twice a day, in addition to 12.5 mg HCTZ. I overcame my anxiety issues with exercise and have been running 3 miles a day for the last six months. I recently had palpitations after running. I have recently been prescribed Amlodipine-Benaz 5/10 MG capsules for treatment of hypertension. However, my resting pulse rate has consistently been in the 90's and increasing into the 100's at time, so I have been prescribed Carvedilol to help control the heart rate. My question is, doesn't Carvedilol control hypertension as well...Why should I be taking carvedilol in addition to amliodipine?

I was put on carvedilol, after covid, when I developed heart palpitations. After all the tests were done, they didn't find anything wrong. My doctor told me to stop carvedilol. So I did what he told me. And it has been an awful 3 weeks. I asked if I was having withdrawals from this medicine, He didn't think so or if I was it wouldn't last long. I know that the medicine is out of my system but has my body had time to readjust from it? I was taking 12.5 2X a day for 5 weeks.

Week 2 was 10mg and week three was the final ramped up dose of 20mg. I was fine on the 5 and 10 mg tablets but felt like crap in the morning after taking the 20mg tablet. The doc allowed me to cut the 20mg tablet in half until our next apt at which time he prescribed Carvedilol 25 mg twice a day. Anyone have any insight as to why he might have done that? Particularly since the 10mg Bystolic tablets seemed to be the “sweet spot” in terms of tolerability.

I have never really heard of tinnitis or vertigo being symptoms of MS, and those are the main reasons I even started pursuing medical help to begin with. The doctors have ruled out some explanations (like the acoustic neuroma), but there are still other possibilities on the table (Meniere's disease, or even high blood pressure for example).

Cardiologist understandably wants me on the highest dose of carvedilol for maximum benefit but I just cannot take the doses he wants due to extremely low blood pressure 80s/50s, dizziness, weakness. I've been on 6.25 in am and 12.5 in pm and doing just ok physically on these doses. Well last night I couldn't get my BP up so I only took 6.25 in the pm. I feel so much better today-bp is up and I've got more energy and am much less foggy.

he told me to stop the taking of carv medication, so i stop it immediately. i already stopped the intake of carvedilol 5 days ago (it was just 25mg daily) then the symptoms i am experiencing right now is palpitation (almost most of the day especially lying down), i also experienced shortness of breath almost all day. are these the side effects of stopping carvedilol immediately? thank you Ger57!
