Cardiologist understandably wants me on the highest dose of carvedilol for maximum benefit but I just cannot take the doses he wants due to extremely low blood pressure 80s/50s, dizziness, weakness. I've been on 6.25 in am and 12.5 in pm and doing just ok physically on these doses.
Well last night I couldn't get my BP up so I only took 6.25 in the pm. I feel so much better today-bp is up and I've got more energy and am much less foggy.
My dad was recently diagnosed with CHF and was given Carvedilol. He is taking 12.5 mg twice a day. His blood pressure is well controlled now that he is on the pill, but there have been 3 times when his blood pressure drops way too low and he feels like fainting. Is that normal?How long does it usually take to get used to the drug?
Everyone reacts different on medication, so despite the low dose it could be the medication causing your problems. The Carvedilol is of course especially suspect if you did not have the symptoms before you started taking it.
I suggest that you talk to your doctor about temporarily stop taking it to see if the symptoms subside. A bp of 140/100 for a few weeks is probably not such a problem.
Or you could ask your doctor to switch to another betablocker.
It's my understanding that the goal is to keep the heart rate at 60 beats per minute. That means the pulse needs to be monitored. Every morning you check the heart rate and if it's below 60 bpm you would skip the dose. If it's above 60 bpm you take the dose. 60 bpm is still very low and can make you feel weak. I too was on nadalol beta blocker and had to lower the dosage by half but no longer take it. That seems to be the way to take the Carvedilol too so check with your doc.
Week 2 was 10mg and week three was the final ramped up dose of 20mg. I was fine on the 5 and 10 mg tablets but felt like crap in the morning after taking the 20mg tablet. The doc allowed me to cut the 20mg tablet in half until our next apt at which time he prescribed Carvedilol 25 mg twice a day. Anyone have any insight as to why he might have done that? Particularly since the 10mg Bystolic tablets seemed to be the “sweet spot” in terms of tolerability.
I am 76 years old, I had a bypass 14 years ago. Recently, my PC Dr put a holter monitor on me, and the results was not very good. . .so, they put in a stent, a defibrillator and pace maker (august 13,2010.) They have put me on
some new meds (right now I am taking Lisinopril, Carvedilol(Coreg), Lipitor, Lasix(as needed) and asprin, Oh yes, Plavix.
The angagram (sp) Indicated I have one artery totaly shut off. They also said my Enjection Fraction was 30.
Lisinopril and Carvedilol are blood pressure medications (lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, Carvedilol is a beta blocker) and should not have any effect on your lipid profile. Both are important medications for those who have suffered a heart attack and undergone stenting. In addition to these medications, you should be on some sort of lipid medication (a "statin" such as atorvastatin, pravastatin, rosuvasatin, lovastatin, etc).
I am on Tecfidera 240 mg dose. It just occurred to me I missed the morning dose. I have a call into the specialty pharmacy for direction. I didn't find much on the web except "take it as soon as you remember and if close to your next dose take it then but don't double up". This is the first time I missed since starting therapy last month. I feel terrible. Is this incredibly bad?
Do I still take the ribavirin pills since I missed the dose? After 4 weeks I was tested and no virus was showing so I am worried that this is going to be a set back. I am anemic as well. Just need to know what to do??? Hep clinic closed for weekend as is doc office and pharmacist had no clue. Anyone been through this?
First observation I know is correct, Coreg and Carvedilol are the exact same drug, except Carvedilol is the generic form of Coreg. Increasing the combination would mean over 120mg, an unheard of dosage. You are already taking a gorilla dose and that can cause a drop of EF in my opinion. EF ratings fluctuate. I'd ask for a BNP test that is used to determine the level of CHF one has. Usually less than 100 indicates no CHF.
If you were fine on the Carvedilol then maybe you can ask to be switched back to that at a higher dose.
She also takes a high dosage of Lisinopril and Carvedilol and it seems like she is getting weaker at times. The dosage for Lisinopril is 40mg and 25mg for Carvedilol She has been taking this medication for almost 2 years now, but now she has become weaker and is more nervous now, have anxiety attacks. Is the dosage too high? Or is there anyway to reduce the side effects of the medication??

The side effects from the metoprolol have gotten a little better, though as I type this my heart rate is 52 bpm. Does any one have any comments on the pros and cons of carvedilol versus metoprolol? I'm not sure I want to switch if the side effects will be the same. Does anyone have experience with metoprolol? How long do the side effects last?
The optimal doses depend on what you BP and heart rate will tolerate, so I can't really comment on that at this point. The carvedilol is usually started at a low dose and titrated up every week or 2 weeks. Losartan can be started at whatever dose seems reasonable for your blood pressure.
No need to taper, you can just make the switch. The primary care doctor that you see will likely know all of this.

I am on 6.25 mg carvedilol twice a day. I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
That said, carvedilol lowers blood pressure, sometimes to an extreme. Were you taking carvedilol when your heart rate went to 150? After being off carvedilol, what is your blood pressure, and did your heart rate change after being off the drug?
I'd ask your doctor if you should have a nuclear stress test to look for a blockage in your heart arteries, and/or a heart echo to look at valves, etc.
