Avatar m tn I have recently been prescribed Amlodipine-Benaz 5/10 MG capsules for treatment of hypertension. However, my resting pulse rate has consistently been in the 90's and increasing into the 100's at time, so I have been prescribed Carvedilol to help control the heart rate. My question is, doesn't Carvedilol control hypertension as well...Why should I be taking carvedilol in addition to amliodipine?
Avatar n tn My 79 year old mother, who lives in another state, is on medication for hypertension. She takes Carvedilol, Diovan, Dilitiazem, and Clonidine. Her doctor even talked about putting her on a fifth medicine. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't make sense to me for anyone to have that many different prescriptions for one problem.
Avatar f tn thank you everyone for your comments, my major concern at this point is my platelets cause they are not at a normal range and have not been for awhile. My platelets run in a 2 digit right now they are 47 so they are pretty low. My blood pressure is never high either, the blood pressure meds that I take at the moment are to help with my kidneys. I am going to call the doctor and get a better explanation .
Avatar f tn Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor and the mechanism of the agent is to dilate vessels to reduce hypertension. Metoprolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Metoprolol is used to treat angina and hypertension for high blood pressure. It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack. My regimen is Lisinopril and coreg (beta blocker).
Avatar m tn Without going into too much detail, here is my situation. 66-yo male, treated for hypertension for 25 years (well controlled). Weight is good (6'0; 180), as are most of the standard test numbers (cholesterol (LDL is 88 HDL is 39 (!), triglycerides 77, etc). Several years ago after experimenting with a variety of hypertension drugs my pcp suggested I visit a cardiologist. He put me through the ringer - stress, echo, cardiac cath.

Avatar n tn Thank you for taking my question - Male, 39, parasoxymal a-fib & labile hypertension, overweight (6'5", 300#). It is believed by PCP & cardiologist that my high BP is most likely the catalyst for the a-fib (approx 1 episode lasting 2-45 minutes per 3-6 moths). Always spontaneously converts. Yesterday, BP reached 180/90 for no apparent reason. EKG taken by cardiologist as precation was normal. Cardiologist is having me drop Cardizem LA (180 mg) for Carvedilol (6.
Avatar m tn Hi, carvedilol is a beta blocker and is indicated for the treatment of mild-to-severe chronic heart failure. Lisinopril is angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, used to treat hypertension and heart failure, So, check with your doctor why the medications have been prescribed, it may not be for hypertension alone.
Avatar f tn Did they give you any med's for the pre or hypertension? A LVEF of 37% is not good; but, not congestive heart failure. If they left off at that I would get a second opinion if possible or pester them for an explanation of why it dropped. I have just started to understand diabetes and testing. I have noticed when I'm stressed or upset my glucose numbers rise along with my BP and HR. Though as I said I'm new to this diabetes thing.
Avatar f tn I don’t know about that side effect.
Avatar n tn Taking Sotalol for AFIB and it is not effective. How does one change from 120mg BID of Sotalol to Atenolol @ 50mg BID? Is there a need to taper the Sotalol?
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure after a brief stay in the hospital (admitted from the ER with chest pains). I was given several tests, including an echocardiogram and a nuclear stress test.
Avatar m tn Dear p1954 Carvedilol belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. It is responsible for inhibition of beta receptors present ubiquitously on the heart muscle. By blocking these receptors, it helps prevent the effects of adrenaline/noradrenaline on the heart thereby maintaining a low heart rate and reducing the energy expended by the heart per beat.
907968 tn?1292622204 Your doctor should slowly lower your dose over several weeks if you need to stop taking it. This should be done even if you only take Carvedilol Extended-Release Capsules for high blood pressure. Heart disease is common and you may not know you have it. Limit physical activity while you are lowering your dose. If new or worsened chest pain or other heart problems occur, contact your doctor right away. You may need to start taking Carvedilol Extended-Release Capsules again.
Avatar m tn It recently dropped to 80 over 51 and the doctor took me off of my carvedilol for 2 weeks and said to monitor my blood pressure and call in two weeks. It has been 2 weeks now. I do not know what my heart rate should be at normal and at exertion. I live in a quad level and go up and down a lot of steps to do laundry. I get winded very easily. I want to feel better.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Sorry for a slow response in answering. Gosh, it sounds like you have your hands full. And an uncooperative parent you are trying to take care of is hard to deal with. Switching roles a bit is hard on us all when our parents age. Take time for you to recharge batteries, this isn't easy! So, your dad's medication. Is he diagnosed with congestive heart failure? He's on some meds for that (coreg, for example). Norvasc is for hypertension.
Avatar f tn It is 128 sometimes as high as 130-150 but can be 100 at times as well. It will go down under 100 too if I am lying down for a long long time. I have had it for a long time and don't know if it has in fact gone beyond 150. I was just diagnosed with high blood pressure at a reading of only 130/90 and that is when he said my heart rate can't take being that high over the long haul. I think my anxiety is a big factor too.
Avatar n tn hello Doctors/ Experts, may i ask what are the common side effects when taking beta blockers (carvedilol)? i am taking just 12.5mg daily and i feel some irregularities like palps, fatigue, headaches, dizzy. i am not sure if these are side effects. im 24yo and dont smoke or drink but having a bp of 140/100. then down to 120/80 when taking 12.5mg carv daily. thank you for the knowledge.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I am currently on Plavix, Aspirin, Simvastatin, Lisinopril and Carvedilol/Coreg/. Stopped Lisinopril for a little bit and felt much better- unfortunately my blood pressure went a little up. Then my PCP substitute it for Losartan- have been taking this drug/25 mg/ for a week and feel extremely dizzy and nauseated. The cardiologist suggested to cut Carvbedilol in half/so now I am taking 3.125 twice a day instead of 6.25 and my chest pain almost disapear.
