Avatar f tn The reason it is not for the CHF itself but because I take statins for my cholesterol and they are supposed to inhibit the body production of Q10. My cardiologist think that they only have a "placebo" effect abd are useless.
Avatar m tn m just a hack who has gone through CHF from stages I-!V, but I credit Coreg for keeping me on the sunny side of the earth. Please, listen to your doctors. Also, I hope you get checked by Cleveland Clinic. My cardio doc is a graduate, and has kept me living, but sometimes with tough love. Keep us informed.
Avatar m tn My dad was recently diagnosed with CHF and was given Carvedilol. He is taking 12.5 mg twice a day. His blood pressure is well controlled now that he is on the pill, but there have been 3 times when his blood pressure drops way too low and he feels like fainting. Is that normal? How long does it usually take to get used to the drug?
Avatar f tn I'm 76 years old was diagnosed with CHF in February of 2009. I am being treated by a good cardiologist. My ejection rate is 34% and I hope increasing all the time. It was 20% in February at my initial diagnosis. I'm taking carvedilol, lisinopril, digoxin, medication for my cholesterol and diabetes 2 and also aspirin and cod liver oil . I would like to continue with my exercise program and don't know if it's allowed. It's not hard, just walking.
Avatar n tn Sure enough, after the ultrasound, the resident doctor and a cardiologist came in to explain to me that I have cardiomyopathy and CHF. I was put on Carvedilol, Lisinopril, and Spironolactone while I was in the hospital. My O2, my pulse rate, my blood pressure all improved immediately. I've had a few problems since being diagnosed in February, and I would say that it's mostly my body getting adjusted to the medicine that I've been on.
Avatar m tn About 4 years ago I found that I had CHF caused by A-Fib. My a-Fib is constant, it's just always irregular. I don't have periods in which I feel the A-Fib come on. The A-Fib started a vicious cycle, it caused me to retain fluid which then inhibited my heart even more, which caused me to retain more fluid. My EF was under 20%. They got the fluid out of me in the hospital over 8 days and put me on Wafarin, Carvedilol, Enalapril, and 80mg of Furosemide once a day.
Avatar n tn Cardiologist understandably wants me on the highest dose of carvedilol for maximum benefit but I just cannot take the doses he wants due to extremely low blood pressure 80s/50s, dizziness, weakness. I've been on 6.25 in am and 12.5 in pm and doing just ok physically on these doses. Well last night I couldn't get my BP up so I only took 6.25 in the pm. I feel so much better today-bp is up and I've got more energy and am much less foggy.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am new to this medhelp site. Once I know more about how it works, I think I am going to learn alot from it. I was diagnosed with dilated congestive heart failure in May of last year with an ejection fraction of 20% and with my meds it went up to 27%. In Dec 09, I got an ICD implanted and I feel alot better. Anyway, just wanted to mention that I too experience numbness in my arms and hands while I sleep and this has been happening since the CHF diagnosis.
Avatar f tn You are certainly on a good beta blocker which is rated about the best for CHF. Do you have any echo results giving any information to chamber dilation etc?
Avatar n tn They say I have thousands as many and as frequently as a second apart. I am 60. I am on Diovan, Carvedilol, Lipitor, Flursemide, Klor-con for the heart and Synthroid and Nexium.
Avatar n tn My dad has had congestive heart failure for the last 10 years. In 2001 he had a quintuple bypass at 73 yrs old. 2 months ago he was admitted to the hospital for fluid retention. He was diagnosed with CHF, coronary artery disease, hypersensitive heart disease, cardiomayopathy, artic atherosclerosis. The dr prescribed spirolactone, omeprazole, amiodarone, furosemide, carvedilol, and lisinopril. They released him to hospice care.
Avatar n tn Since you are on the right meds, the results COULD be better. The target dose of the Carvedilol is 50 mg. twice a day for someone your weight, and your bp is not low so they could raise that med. If a repeat echo would show an EF of less than 35%, you could very well be a candidate for an ICD. But it could save your life! So it would be a good thing and you will adjust I'm sure. But for now, I would take it just one step at a time and get another echo.
Avatar n tn My visit with a cardiologist is this coming Monday. Now! I have been hospitalized at least six times the most recent about two years ago. for (CHF) and (AF) and not once has the attending cardiologist of the hospital ever discussed anything about my (EF) percentage rate which I'm sure it has to be of a lessor value at this time. This has me stressed out big time. and I can only say that knowing what my (EF) was from 3 years ago at 30 - 40% without any advice!
Avatar n tn When someone has CHF it actually is pretty common for the person to sweat a little more than usual since the blood vessels in the skin do not dilate as they normally would because the blood flow and 02 levels in his body are being compromised with the CHF, I would simply make a call to his doc if it is bothering him and get their take on it. And yes there are things that the doc can prescribe to treat the issue....good luck to you and happy new year......
Avatar f tn I don’t know about that side effect.
Avatar m tn Dear p1954 Carvedilol belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. It is responsible for inhibition of beta receptors present ubiquitously on the heart muscle. By blocking these receptors, it helps prevent the effects of adrenaline/noradrenaline on the heart thereby maintaining a low heart rate and reducing the energy expended by the heart per beat.
907968 tn?1292622204 Your doctor should slowly lower your dose over several weeks if you need to stop taking it. This should be done even if you only take Carvedilol Extended-Release Capsules for high blood pressure. Heart disease is common and you may not know you have it. Limit physical activity while you are lowering your dose. If new or worsened chest pain or other heart problems occur, contact your doctor right away. You may need to start taking Carvedilol Extended-Release Capsules again.
Avatar m tn It recently dropped to 80 over 51 and the doctor took me off of my carvedilol for 2 weeks and said to monitor my blood pressure and call in two weeks. It has been 2 weeks now. I do not know what my heart rate should be at normal and at exertion. I live in a quad level and go up and down a lot of steps to do laundry. I get winded very easily. I want to feel better.
1132705 tn?1260482521 I am wondering if you think we will see more patients in the future getting filtration-type treatments for their CHF? As a Telemetry RN in an acute care facility, I see frequent admissions and then subsequent readmissions (over and over) for exacerbation of CHF. Our hospital has core measures that we follow on every CHF patient in order to ensure an Echo has been done within the past 6 mos and if warrented a Rx for an ACE inhibitor.
Avatar n tn hello Doctors/ Experts, may i ask what are the common side effects when taking beta blockers (carvedilol)? i am taking just 12.5mg daily and i feel some irregularities like palps, fatigue, headaches, dizzy. i am not sure if these are side effects. im 24yo and dont smoke or drink but having a bp of 140/100. then down to 120/80 when taking 12.5mg carv daily. thank you for the knowledge.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I am currently on Plavix, Aspirin, Simvastatin, Lisinopril and Carvedilol/Coreg/. Stopped Lisinopril for a little bit and felt much better- unfortunately my blood pressure went a little up. Then my PCP substitute it for Losartan- have been taking this drug/25 mg/ for a week and feel extremely dizzy and nauseated. The cardiologist suggested to cut Carvbedilol in half/so now I am taking 3.125 twice a day instead of 6.25 and my chest pain almost disapear.
