Avatar m tn I was put on milrinone and watched for a week in ICU with an ejection fraction of 15 percent. Milrinone raised my heart to safe level of ejection. I was suffering from cardiogenic shock. Pick your best hospital that works specifically with cardiovascular near you.if you want to keep suckin air.don't go back to ER.
Avatar n tn Hello I have a question, I have been diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, Atrial Fib (AF), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)and an Enlarged Heart back in 1998. at that time my (EF) Ejection fraction was well over 60%. I went to my Doctor the other day and found out that my (EF) is at 30 - 40% from a EKG/Echo cardiogram report that dated back to 07/19/2005 now three years have gone by and now I'm worried.
Avatar m tn Recently had an echocardiogram and was told me Ejection Fraction was a bit low 50 percent. I have a history of high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Just before the test, I took 150 mg of Metoprolol. I usually take this twice a day. I've heard that this medicine can reduce the heart's pumping action and I'm wondering if this could have had an effect on my test results?
Avatar n tn 43 year old male just diagnosed with CFH due to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, had ICD implanted last month, was just had TEE and cardioversion over the weekend due to A-FIB, , and my heart is as weak as it can be the doc says. My ejection fraction is approximately 10%, I have about 5,000 pvcs a day, as well as SVTs and VTs. What do you think is life expectancy/prognosis?
Avatar n tn My dad has been detected with low Ejection Fraction of 25% through an echo test, also doctors say theres a leakage in his left valve, though the doctor also mentioned that the leakage is not that much that he should go in for surgery immediately. Now, he is kept on beta blockers and diagoxin. I would like to understand the follwoing: - How sever is the problem, can it lead to sudden cardiac arrest? - Can his EF be improved through medicines or he needs a surgery?
Avatar n tn Hi, the basic cause for the diminished ejection fraction needs to be treated for the ejection fraction to improve. In your case the cardiomyopathy. Ejection fraction can be improved by lifestyle changes, medications and procedures, such as the insertion of an implantable defibrillator (ICD) is indicated, with an EF of 25-30%.
Avatar f tn When we got to the heart hospital he was off the charts with the tachycardia and had an ejection fraction of 10%. At that time they could only put "the balloon" in to help his heart. He a tuff go of it for a while but has gone brilliantly to the good side. He has worn a Zoll external defibrillator for 3 months now and has had all good heart rhythms since coming home. No shocks were necessary. This appears to be controlled with his medication.
Avatar m tn Post MI we have great data for both beta blockers and statins. For carvedilol post MI with an abnormal left ventricular ejection fraction the benefits are both for mortality and to help the heart remodel to a more normal shape and function. The minimum dose shown to be of true benefit is the 6.25 mg, and I would even suggest increasing your dose instead of decreasing it. For statins, they too decrease mortality and need for a repeat stenting in the post MI period.
Avatar m tn my echocardiogram showed dilated cardiomyopathy with ejection fraction of 10% and biatrial enlargement and elevated creatine after cardiac catherization the aortic pressure was 110/77 with a mean of 93 left ventricular pressure was 110/26 descending irregularity these were not flow limiting the left circumflex coronary artery had minimal irregularities and relatively disease free and a nondominant vessel.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with dilated congestive heart failure in May of last year with an ejection fraction of 20% and with my meds it went up to 27%. In Dec 09, I got an ICD implanted and I feel alot better. Anyway, just wanted to mention that I too experience numbness in my arms and hands while I sleep and this has been happening since the CHF diagnosis. I don't recall these extremities being cold or even cool.
Avatar f tn You say that your ejection fraction is 25%, if you have a 25% EF, I am speculating your doctor is talking about a biventricular pacemaker. This type PM is frequently used when a person has a low EF that is caused by the ventricles not pumping in sync, or the ventricle is getting a weak impulse from the hearts natural pacemakers. And LBBB may cause arrhythmia (heart out of sync.). You should be helped for a better EF and some assurance against an irregular heart rate.
Avatar m tn My ejection fraction rate has been in the 30% range, then raised to close to normal, then seen if fall, and raised again. Currently it probably is close to normal. In my opinion, determining the EF is a slippery slope. What has led to your heart problem that required the medication? Coreg, or carvidilol which is the generic replacement, is a very powerful drug. It is difficult to take, that is why you are being given a very small dose twice a day.
Avatar n tn 6.25mg Carvedilol 2x per day 20 mg Lisinopril 2x per day My blood pressure in the ER avg 150/90 My heart rate is naturally low and with these meds it avg low-mid 50s. My Cardiologist added Doxazosin 1mg at bed time, but my BP is unchanged. I'm 6' 210 lbs I work part time 4 hrs per day cleaning houses with my girlfriend and I'm a drummer in a classic rock band. I also do light weight lifting 3 days a week on a bowflex. I don't think I'm in bad shape. My Dr.
Avatar n tn At what point {ejection fraction}is a heart transplant considered? How low can the ejection fraction go with the pt still alive?
Avatar m tn No blockages anywhere but a Left Bundle Branch Block with reduced Ejection Fraction was noted. No one has any idea of the cause, but hypertension is considered an unlikely candidate. Treatment has been Coreg (25;1/daily) and Carvedilol (6.25;2/daily). EF varies between 28-34 depending on the testing method. But here's the rub ... I have no symptoms. In fact, I can't remember when - or if - I ever felt better.
Avatar n tn The actual term you are looking for is ejection fraction. A doctor will need to monitor such a low ejection fraction closely.
907729 tn?1244174363 Your low ejection fraction does increase your surgical risk, even in the absence of any significant blockages on your recent angiogram. I do think that speaking with a surgeon still would be useful in terms of understanding your level of risk better.
Avatar m tn Several years ago I was diagnosed with enlarged heart and was told I had an ejection fraction of 35%. I didn't understand this and asked what it meant. My doctor told me that it means that one day I may need a new heart. In May of 2007 I had a Thallium stress test and an ejection fraction of 41%. After the stress test I almost didn't make the 45 minute ride home. I couldn't keep my eyes open I was swerving all over the highway but luckily I made it home.
Avatar m tn 1 cm and my LVpwd is 1.2. My left ventricular cavity is 4.7 cm. My ejection fraction is 65-70 at rest. And at peak stress it went up to 75-80. I keep freaking out I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I keep reading that normal ranges for the walls ar up to 1.1 other sites say 1.2. Also how my ejection fraction went up to 75-80. It says 75 is high normal my cardiologist said not to worry, that its cause i did sports. But how can i not worry? Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn What is a normal increase in ejection fraction with proper medical care? I had an ejection fraction that over the years has decreased to 20% and in the last six months it quickly returned to 60% indicated by measurements from both an echo and MUGA testing. The symptoms of CHF have not changed, so the blood flow per beat has not increased. Why has the EF increased so greatly and what would it indicate?
Avatar n tn my father has low ejection fraction and fractional shortening i.e. fractional shortening of 17% and ejection fraction of 34% it decreases suddenly during 2month in month of june it was normal is that dangeroues and in this condition tell me is fasting (during ramazan) dangerous.
Avatar n tn After a Myocardial Infraction on Nov. 20, 1997, I had a caherization on 11-27-97 that showed a 40% ejection fraction. On 12-4-97 I had a Stress Cardiolite test that showed I had a 29% ejection fraction. On 2-6-98 I had Angioplasty . On 8-18-98 I had an echogram that showed I had an ejection fraction of 40%. After the heart attack I was told 40% of my heart muscle was dead. I had 100% blockage of the LAD and 99% of the D1.
