I'm 76 years old was diagnosed with CHF in February of 2009. I am being treated by a good cardiologist. My ejection rate is 34% and I hope increasing all the time. It was 20% in February at my initial diagnosis. I'm taking carvedilol, lisinopril, digoxin, medication for my cholesterol and diabetes 2 and also aspirin and cod liver oil . I would like to continue with my exercise program and don't know if it's allowed. It's not hard, just walking.

After spending 8 days in the hospital getting my heart back into sinus rhythm (3 cardioversions + Tikosyn) I am back to Afib (off the Tikosyn) and have a 'normal' heart rate of 100 now. I presently take Lisinopril, Digoxin, Warfarin, and Carvedilol. Is 'my present condition' truly something that should not cause concern to me. Isn't being in constant AFib causing my chances of a stroke to rise considerably???
Although, there was no deficiency with that vitamin, the doctors suggested us to continue cartinine vitamin supplements for her as there are not much side effects. Currently she is on enapril, lasix, digoxin. Her EF when we had checked last month was 25%.
Please let us know what are the procedures available here to find out(or rule out) the causes for dilated cardiomyopathy. Also, please let us know if there are any research institutes who are pursuing stem cells therapy to this problem.

My Son was diagnosied (provisional diagnosis) of Viral Myocarditis when he was 2 weeks old and he was in ICU for 2 weeks (in Dec 2005) . When his condition became stabe he was discharged and was on medication - Carnitine, Lasix & Digoxin.
When he was 1 year old, echo revealed improved EF of 45-50% and Doctor stopped Lasix.
What is your understanding for the underlying cause for a regimen of digoxin, furosemide, carvedilol, enlapril, coreg etc., if the test revealed no blockages? Did you have an illness that damaged the heart muscles...congenital, alcohol, drugs, medication, etc.?
for letting this condition go for so long i have week heart muscles. i am on three heart medications amiodarone, digoxin and carvedilol i am also on cumadin. i know the cardiomyopathy is hereditary and my doctor says a lot of it can be controled by medicine now. what is the average life expectancy for cardiomyopathy and what should i be doing for my health.
About 6 weeks ago I got AF with an erratic heart rate between 80 and 140. My cardiologist put me on Carvedilol beta blocker and Digoxin, and two weeks ago I went onto Warfarin in prep for an electric cardioversion. Three days ago I had the cardioversion, but reverted back to AF last night. My cardiologist did say that we would "give it one try only and if I reverted back quickly then that is what my body wants to do and I would have to live with it".
44 years old, male. Recently diagnosed with idipoathic cardiomyopathy with an LVEF of 10%. My hospital discharge paperwork indicated severe hypokinesis, non-ischemic and severe heart failure. I feel okay with the fluid gone but can't exert myself. Daily, I'm taking 50mg Carvedilol, 40mg Lasix, 10mg Lisinopril, .25mg Digoxin and 5mg Coumadin. My heart is enlarged. I'm trying to get an idea what my LVEF will be at my 3 month echocardiogram.

It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor.

I am on 6.25 mg carvedilol twice a day. I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
That said, carvedilol lowers blood pressure, sometimes to an extreme. Were you taking carvedilol when your heart rate went to 150? After being off carvedilol, what is your blood pressure, and did your heart rate change after being off the drug?
I'd ask your doctor if you should have a nuclear stress test to look for a blockage in your heart arteries, and/or a heart echo to look at valves, etc.

may i ask what are the common side effects when taking beta blockers (carvedilol)? i am taking just 12.5mg daily and i feel some irregularities like palps, fatigue, headaches, dizzy. i am not sure if these are side effects. im 24yo and dont smoke or drink but having a bp of 140/100. then down to 120/80 when taking 12.5mg carv daily. thank you for the knowledge.
However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
