Carvedilol and chf

Common Questions and Answers about Carvedilol and chf

coreg

Avatar m tn quadruple Coreg and triple Carvedilol. And get an ICD. Its the standard protocol, they say. But again, I feel great ... and with my long-standing exercise program (brisk walk 4 days/week for 4 miles plus another walk 1 day/week between 7.5-9.5 miles) and a very healthy diet, I see no reason to agree. What am I looking for? At a bare minimum, a supportive doctor who is willing to think outside the "standard protocol" box ...
Avatar m tn My dad was recently diagnosed with CHF and was given Carvedilol. He is taking 12.5 mg twice a day. His blood pressure is well controlled now that he is on the pill, but there have been 3 times when his blood pressure drops way too low and he feels like fainting. Is that normal? How long does it usually take to get used to the drug?
Avatar f tn m taking carvedilol, lisinopril, digoxin, medication for my cholesterol and diabetes 2 and also aspirin and cod liver oil . I would like to continue with my exercise program and don't know if it's allowed. It's not hard, just walking.
Avatar m tn There are a few beta blockers with evidence in heart failure -- they are carvedilol, metoprolol XL, and bisoprolol (not really used in the US). Atenolol does not have any data to support its use in heart failure, so I would recommend a different agent (one of the above). Which one to choose depends on your blood pressure and ability to take twice daily dosing vs once daily. Chlorthalidone is a perfectly fine diuretic, if you have blood pressure room to tolerate it.
Avatar f tn The reason it is not for the CHF itself but because I take statins for my cholesterol and they are supposed to inhibit the body production of Q10. My cardiologist think that they only have a "placebo" effect abd are useless.
Avatar m tn 2 x 2 early 2013, so I have been on this dose of carvedilol for quite a while.. will be seeing and ear throat specialist and my cardiologist next week and discussing the swallowing issues and the new tinnitus sounds which could be related... will post what I learn.
Avatar n tn I am 31yo and I have cardiomyopathy and CHF. How I found out I have this problem is I thought I had developed bronchitis or something in January of 2008 because I kept coughing and feeling the urge to cough all the time. Nothing seemed to cure the constant cough I had: not cough medicine, not cough drops--nothing. In the mornings I'd cough till I puked, and would have coughing fits so bad sometimes I'd sweat.
Avatar n tn I also have POTS which causes orthostatic intolerance anyway and I feel maybe the carvedilol is worsening those symptoms as well. I want to do what is best for my prognosis but I also need to be able to live a life, not just sit or lay around all day. I've been unable to work for seven months. Is 6.25 mg twice daily sufficient to help my EF without Lisinopril?
Avatar m tn Anyway, just wanted to mention that I too experience numbness in my arms and hands while I sleep and this has been happening since the CHF diagnosis. I don't recall these extremities being cold or even cool. One of the cardiologist that I've seen said it could be a side effect of the medication Carvedilol. Do you take this pill? It hasn't been happening lately.
Avatar m tn Interesting question and interesting response. I do know that BNP results are a positive indicator for CHF, but the numbers don't always equate to patient's severity of CHF symptoms. I think a BNP number of 100 is an indicator for heart failure, but for a number of years I worked out daily and lived pretty routinely with BNP numbers between 150 - 200. My blood is tested about every 90 days.
Avatar f tn Can someone pls help me understand how serious is my condition and what can help me improve it. I am an otherwise healthy person and able to walk 3-4kms at a stretch without fatigue and have never had any heart attack so far.
Avatar n tn He was diagnosed with CHF, coronary artery disease, hypersensitive heart disease, cardiomayopathy, artic atherosclerosis. The dr prescribed spirolactone, omeprazole, amiodarone, furosemide, carvedilol, and lisinopril. They released him to hospice care. I know it means end stage CHF, My dad has been having problems with low blood pressure (85/49), constant headache and dizziness, in which he fell the other day.
Avatar n tn They say I have thousands as many and as frequently as a second apart. I am 60. I am on Diovan, Carvedilol, Lipitor, Flursemide, Klor-con for the heart and Synthroid and Nexium.
Avatar n tn ll be seeing the cardiologist on Monday the 18th, this is the cardiologist that tended to my needs when hospitalized less then a year ago, with (CHF) and (AF) they drained about 60 lbs of fluids out of me, and nothing was ever mentioned about my (EF). since my last discharge from the hospital I haven't felt good at all.
Avatar m tn Lipitor is to reduce cholesterol, Plavix is to prevent blood clotting, Prilosec is to prevent heart burn, iron is to tackle anemia and iron deficiency, and centrum is a multivitamin. Digoxin is used to treat heart failure. Coming to Carvedilol, it is not a simple anti hypertensive medication used to treat high blood pressure, but is also a cardioprotective drug, used in patients with heart failure.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with CHF and dilated cardiomyopathy (EF 20%), in April 2010. By July, 2010, my EF increased to 45%. I feel wonderful and lead an active life. What is the prognosis based on this information?
Avatar n tn Hello I have a question, I have been diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, Atrial Fib (AF), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)and an Enlarged Heart back in 1998. at that time my (EF) Ejection fraction was well over 60%. I went to my Doctor the other day and found out that my (EF) is at 30 - 40% from a EKG/Echo cardiogram report that dated back to 07/19/2005 now three years have gone by and now I'm worried.
Avatar m tn I quit taking carvedilol and my statin as I thought I had my heart problems knocked, and soon afterwards, even though my cholesterol, diabetes and weight was normal, I had to have six more stents, a pacemaker, and eventually bypass surgery. Today at age 72 I'm back taking the drugs, but I also have Congestive Heart Failure, and believe me, taking carvedilol and Plavix was much easier. I have to sleep in a chair because my lungs fill with water.
Avatar n tn I have had CHF and there is no sweating involved, and I have researched the subject and answered the question several times in the past...its a matter of confusing HA and HF.. It can be explained and there has been a study done on the subject. The study was whether either sweating or skin/blood responses would be impaired in heart failure patients. It was found that for the same level of internal temperature, the heart failure patient does not dilate blood vessels of the skin as much.
907968 tn?1292622204 Since both started getting bad about the same time and just shortly after starting Carvedilol I can easily make the connection. However, they could be unrelated to carvedilol and the timing could be a coincidence. Before I make an appointment to have a chat with my Dr. I'd like to hear from anyone that has had these symptom and that were known to be directly connected to carvedilol. Assuming there are none here, Does anyone have any info to share about these?
Avatar m tn I am on 6.25 mg carvedilol twice a day. I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
Avatar m tn It recently dropped to 80 over 51 and the doctor took me off of my carvedilol for 2 weeks and said to monitor my blood pressure and call in two weeks. It has been 2 weeks now. I do not know what my heart rate should be at normal and at exertion. I live in a quad level and go up and down a lot of steps to do laundry. I get winded very easily. I want to feel better.
323615 tn?1226193396 hi, my husband has end stage chf and he sleeps a lot, and all night,he seems exhausted all day, but no severe coughing.
Avatar f tn I have just been prescribed Spironolactone 25mg and Carvedilol 6.25.

Avatar f tn lol trust me natural progesterone will make your husband like a 20 year old man with his sex drive and its cheap with not one side effect and can take with his heart meds i think being as your body makes progesterone male and female so substituting with more progesterone is safe.
