Avatar m tn I had and MI, or possibly acute cardiomyopathy) 1 year ago. I have been told both at different time. LVEF was 45% 2 months after. This was first assessment.. due for another soon. I am on 6.25 mg carvedilol twice a day. I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time.
Avatar f tn If the patient has idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, drug named as carvedilol usually helps the patients. Carvedilol is originally a blood-pressure-lowering drug. But, this is very effective on the hearts with idiopathic cardiomyopathy. I think your hasband may have this type of disease from statistical knowledge. If the heart function does not recover after these treatment, you can consider the use of a heart-failure-treatning pacemaker (cardiac resynchronization therapy).
Avatar f tn No blockage, but he said my left ventricle was not pumping as it should and gave me a vague diagnosis of cardiomyopathy--possibly viral. I have been on carvedilol since. I wore a monitor for 4 weeks and it showed PVC's, PAC's, and supraventricular something or other. In September, I had an echocardiogram and my cardiologist said my heart looked normal. Throughout my EF was about 60. Yesterday, Jan.
Avatar f tn preclinical (no symptoms), acute, and chronic. The preclinical and acute stages are usually reversible when alcohol abuse is discontinued, except in cases of sudden congestive heart failure or acute heart muscle degeneration. Your medication treats high blood pressure and stablizes the heart rate. That is the same treatment I was given. A reduction in blood pressure will help to reduce the heart's workload...
Avatar m tn In December last year my wife was in hospital receiving surgery for a cancer (VIN) and while there her heart rate fell through the floor. An echocardiogram was done and showed an EF of 30-35%. In March this year another echo had an EF of 50% (marked increase) however the third one done last week came in at 40% which shows a decline again. The reason why escapes us. My wife (Sally) is on Dilatrend and Adacand.
Avatar m tn Of course you are worried. However, cardiomyopathy is not simple to treat, and only your wife's doctor knows her medical history and current health. We on this forum are not physicians, so we cannot give you professional advice. I suggest you write down all your questions and make another appointment with her doctor to help you both understand her illness and the best treatment.
Avatar n tn for letting this condition go for so long i have week heart muscles. i am on three heart medications amiodarone, digoxin and carvedilol i am also on cumadin. i know the cardiomyopathy is hereditary and my doctor says a lot of it can be controled by medicine now. what is the average life expectancy for cardiomyopathy and what should i be doing for my health.

Avatar m tn my echocardiogram showed dilated cardiomyopathy with ejection fraction of 10% and biatrial enlargement and elevated creatine after cardiac catherization the aortic pressure was 110/77 with a mean of 93 left ventricular pressure was 110/26 descending irregularity these were not flow limiting the left circumflex coronary artery had minimal irregularities and relatively disease free and a nondominant vessel.
907729 tn?1244174363 I am a 41yr old female I have Type II diabetes, hypothyroid, and I have heart disease and heart failure. I am severely obese and have tried many diets and also exercise.. I have been overweight most of my life. I need to loose weight for my health. I need to get heart sugery, but they won't do it based on my weight. I want to know if I would qualify for the gastric bypass surgery.
Avatar f tn Hey, i am 21 years old and I've been experiencing heart problems since I was 14. When I was 14 I was healthy as ever untill out of the blue I wasn't feelin well all day and when I came home from work I told my mom I was having these chest pains when I breathe in and out and my lip was numb. She immedietly took me to the hospital in which all of a sudden I was sent into the ICU .
Avatar n tn BTW - taking 25mg Carvedilol 2x per day and Amioterone 1x per day had to give up Enalipril (BP was too low) excuse my spelling of these don't have them handy in front of me...
Avatar f tn I was put on a low salt diet, and a daily baby aspirin regimen plus 25mg Spirinolactone, 10 mg Lisinopril once a day, and 6.25 mg Carvedilol twice a day. Echocardiogram in April showed a slight improvement of EF from less than 20% in December, to 25-30%. I was advised to get a bi-v icd, which was done May 15. The device has been checked twice since release from hospital, everything is working extremely well, no complications.
Avatar m tn I quit taking carvedilol and my statin as I thought I had my heart problems knocked, and soon afterwards, even though my cholesterol, diabetes and weight was normal, I had to have six more stents, a pacemaker, and eventually bypass surgery. Today at age 72 I'm back taking the drugs, but I also have Congestive Heart Failure, and believe me, taking carvedilol and Plavix was much easier. I have to sleep in a chair because my lungs fill with water.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with CHF and dilated cardiomyopathy (EF 20%), in April 2010. By July, 2010, my EF increased to 45%. I feel wonderful and lead an active life. What is the prognosis based on this information?
Avatar m tn ventricular tachycardia runs (polymorphic VT), cardiomyopathy [ef 40% last check] and some other things wrong such as an enlarged, weakened heart. For my Vt's they recommended a ICD or defibrillator. I had a Boston Scientific Teligen 100 implanted [pacemaker/ICD], which helps with my low hr's and fainting episodes; after they set it to 60 so I wouldn't faint with anything lower.
Avatar n tn I am 31yo and I have cardiomyopathy and CHF. How I found out I have this problem is I thought I had developed bronchitis or something in January of 2008 because I kept coughing and feeling the urge to cough all the time. Nothing seemed to cure the constant cough I had: not cough medicine, not cough drops--nothing. In the mornings I'd cough till I puked, and would have coughing fits so bad sometimes I'd sweat.
Avatar m tn My dad was recently diagnosed with CHF and was given Carvedilol. He is taking 12.5 mg twice a day. His blood pressure is well controlled now that he is on the pill, but there have been 3 times when his blood pressure drops way too low and he feels like fainting. Is that normal? How long does it usually take to get used to the drug?
Avatar n tn I need some answers to the severity of this condition. I feel that my primary care physician and the members of his staff and group where very neglectful in this matter. any advice would be appreciated in regards to filing a case against them for there neglect to inform me of this (EF) report.
