Make sure that you are eating to maintain your blood sugar levels and not because you are craving something, which can mimic hunger or low blood sugar. I say that because I've been down that road too. I have a problem with my blood sugar taking a nose dive if I don't eat the right things also.

Avatar f tn I have been weight restored for about 2 years but I have overshot my weight goal and would like to return to a BMI of 20, so rather healthy. I am only 4'11 and I am pretty active...burning 300-500 calories in exercise each day. I am curious to know if 1200 calories would be a safe amount to begin consuming. I am 22 years old, so outside of the growing years. I am afraid that if I consume 1200 calories my metabolism will shut down.

Avatar m tn ve been doing some research on the effects of saturated fats vs monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Science has been saying that saturated fats(SF) can increase the risk of heart disease, though, lately that looks like it may not be as true as we all thought. However, for simplicity's sake, let's say it's still absolute that SF is bad for your heart. On the other hand monounsaturated(MUF) and polyunsaturated(PUF) fats are good for you and lower your LDL while raising your HDL.

Avatar n tn Well, let's be accurate here -- almonds and avocados are full of saturated fat and are still good for you, and cranberries are horribly sour if not sweetened with sugar, so nobody snacks on cranberries unless they're sweetened. And carbohydrates are the healthiest foods to eat -- all vegetables and fruits are mostly carbohydrates. It's simple carbs that can be the culprit.

Avatar n tn Start of by calculating the amount of protein you require per day, cut out the carbohydrates and try to eat more healthy fats. You will still end up eating carbohydrates trough vegetables and fruit, but not trough bread, pasta etc. But those that are in the fruit and vegetables are complex carbohydrates, which are good. Try having 5 small meals per day, set apart 2.5hours / 3hours. Also, whenever you feel like you want a snack, eat some fruit instead of junk food.
Avatar f tn I am a single mum to my 5 year old daughter. For the last 4 or 5 months her eating habits have been terrible. She doesn't eat bread, potatoes, pasta or rice...therefore she is getting no carbs...she doesn't seem to be lacking in energy but I'm extremely worried about her. I've tried explaining to her that we need food t give us energy and that she needs to eat else she'll get poorly.

Avatar n tn Look up "the full plate diet" it's really NOT a diet, but healthy eating. That's what I do, all it is, is a high fiber diet eating lots of whole grains (brown rice, wheat bread, oatmeal) fruits, vegetables and water.
