Avatar f tn t determine your carbs by the number of calories. You have to determine how many carbs are in each serving of the individual foods you eat, as listed on the package/container. For instance a serving of bread might have 12 grams of carbs listed on the package. For help with the bar code issue, try asking your question in the Improve MedHelp Suggestions forum. The mods there should be able to help you. You can access that forum via the following link: http://www.medhelp.

1657684 tn?1307375035 Rice is OK if you must, but not too much. The main things to avoid are cheap dry cat foods that are mostly filler, and wheat-based products, and things that are simply too rich for their digestive tract (as in tuna or milk). Your vet can tell you in a nano what foods are really pretty bad for cats. Good luck!
979080 tn?1323433639 there are good carbs ( complex ) and there are bad carbs ( simple ) as there are good fats and bad fats and good cholesterol bad cholesterol - good carbs fats and cholesterol help fight the bad ones - we need a certain amount of complex carbs good fat and good cholesterol daily - triglycerides are formed from carbos + fats - triglycerides when combined with high levels of ldl ( bad ) cholesterol are the major cause of heart and artery disease
7894272 tn?1395206727 Although carbs have a high calorie content , when these are cut out it there for results in a larger proportion of your energy being derived from fats which in the long term could have implications to health and increase levels of LDL cholesterol. I personally would advise to just be more selective with carbohydrates choosing those that are complex and slower to digest. This will result in a more sustained level of energy and prolong satiety .
5747555 tn?1408727657 So I'm trying to loose weight - and trying to do something lower/better in carbs to stave off Type 2 diabetes. My doctor swears this will work. But -- where do fruits like grapes (nature's original portable snack food) fit? Are they good or bad. And if the goal is to cut carbs, then does that mean no more grapes, apples, etc? Any suggestions.
Avatar f tn A well-balanced diet will include at least 400 grams of carbohydrates. If there are too few carbohydrates in a person's diet, this will likely result in excessive protein and fat intake.
Avatar m tn We need both good carbs and good fats to survive. Simple carbs are bad, Complex carbs are good. Unsaturated fats are good. They are divided into monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. Saturated and trans fat are bad. Try not to mix or combine carbs and fats into single groups.
Avatar f tn Animals products directly cause bloating since they have salt, fats, and lactose that can fill your stomach with gas. The types of products that are NOT vegan include those with whey protein, eggs, honey, milk, or meat. Also, it's important to support companies that use animal free ingredients since it is more sustainable and better for the environment. Several companies, such as Kaeng Raeng, support animal rights organizations by donating a portion of every sale of an animal free product.
Avatar f tn Fiber-rich foods such as vegetables, nuts, legumes and whole grain products help to control blood sugar levels and are excellent choices as part of a diabbetic diet. Fish are a good source of protein and a healthy alternative to higher-fat options such as red meat.
Avatar n tn Google Glycemic Index [GI] and understand the difference between good carbs [complex] and bad carbs [simple]. Carbohydrates [simple carbs] that break down quickly during digestion and release sugar rapidly into the bloodstream have a high GI; carbohydrates that break down more slowly, releasing sugar more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI. As asok mentioned, watch the carbs. Carbs are wreak havoc to a t2 diabetics glucose level. 2.
594189 tn?1386916607 If, like millions of women, you have eaten a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet for many years, or followed fad diets, the odds are good that you have become at least partially insulin resistant. Insulin is responsible for maintaining stable blood sugar levels by telling the body’s cells when to absorb glucose from the bloodstream. Being insulin resistant means your body stops responding to insulin, and instead grabs every calorie it can and deposits it as fat.
Avatar f tn In addition to providing calories, carbohydrates provide your body with energy. Not all carbohydrates are beneficial, and you should limit your sugar intake. Avatar n tn I am newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I used an old meter from Precision Neo and my numbers were around 130 no higher than 158. My endocrinologist gave me a One Touch and my numbers are at 174 all week. Mornings are 130 or 113. Either my new meter is more sensitive, or I'm struggling..I'm very thirsty and my fingers are numb. I've walked and I eat a good diet. I meet a nutritionist on Tuesday. I stick to a low carb and high protein diet. I do enjoy fresh fruit.
Avatar f tn That is what diatitions are for HOWEVER each diabetic is different the diatitions try to make everybody eat the same. that does not work for controlling BG. The only way for you to see what meal plans work for you is with a BG meter. Teast before you eat Idealy your BG is under 100 (probably not if your diabetic). Count the carbohydrates in your meal. Eat. test your BG 1 hour, two hours after you eat.
Avatar f tn if you take sodas like coke zero ( zero carbs and calories!) it wouldn't hurt your weight loss that much. But people say drinking soda contributes to cancer, kidney stones, obesity...yikes.
Tbd This does not mean that all carbohydrates must be avoided but it is necessary to limit carbohydrate intake and to choose what are called complex carbohydrates in place of simple carbohydrates. The goal for a type 2 diabetic is to maintain their blood glucose within a safe range. Complex carbohydrates are broken down at a slower rate than simple carbohydrates meaning that the glucose is released into the bloodstream at a slower rate allowing more time for the uptake of glucose.
