Avatar f tn Good question. Laboratory tests can be quantitative or qualitative. Qualitative tests give you a yes or no answer to whether something (like HIV) is present of not. Quantitative tests for HIV tell you how much virus is present. We use quantitative tests in caring for patients with HIV to judge how therapy is doing (it should reduce the amount of HIV virus present in blood), as well as, on some occasions, to monitor the progression of disease.
Avatar m tn Just wondering why stool floats frequently when according to two different fat tests (qualitative and quantitative) a year apart show no fat malabsorption. I do take a probiotic once a day.

1391695 tn?1298139789 I have tested VL throughout tx with the normal <43 test. I am planning to do my 24 week VL test with Heptimax in a few weeks. When using a sensitive VL test, if you are UND still, I'm assuming you should always test in the nomral range of the test you are using. In other words, I am hoping to be <5 with Heptimax. I know if there had been a breakthrough, I would go over 43, but I still want the sensitive test.
Avatar f tn What are the blood tests used to diagnose hep b? I see some people that have hbsag as negative or positive and than some ppl have numbers?
Avatar m tn Qualitative TPHA (+), Quantitative TPHA (-) 1:40, Quantitative RPR (-), so one test POSITIVE, two tests NEGATIVE. My doctors told me that I am NEGATIVE syphilis, and Qualitative TPHA test was false positive. So, my result was NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE ? Should I take any further test, I'm so worry about syphilis ? ( my country has not FTA-ABS test ).
Avatar n tn What test are they using, is it, Qualitative or Qualitative ? or both ? If both are UND then you are doing very good ! If your Qualitative is UND and your Qualitative is saying it is still there then it is not as good, but everyone is different and you could still go UND on it. I did not so now I am on triple therapy with Incivek and UND after 4 weeks both tests which is VERY GOOD.
1235159 tn?1323009319 I guess some of the urine tests are more sensitive than the qualitative tests are. If you get back a NEG and you still think you are pregnant make sure you ask them which one they ran and what your number is.
Avatar n tn NO. RNA tests are supplemental tests used in conjunction with antibody tests.
Avatar m tn There is nothing "special" about a quantitative test, other than it measures viral load. What you need at this point is a *sensitive* viral load test, be it quantitative or qualitative. I assume you have already tested undetectible viral load earlier in treatment. If so, you want either a very sensitive quantitative test like "Heptimax" from Quest Diagnositcs or a very sensitive qualitative test like Quest's "HCV RNA QUALITATIVE TMA".
Avatar f tn But I do not understand the different between HIV-1 RNA by PCR Testing (Viral Load Test/Quantitative) and HIV RNA Test (Qualitative). My lab results say that I had the HIV-1 RNA Qualitative test, but the STDalert website just refers to it as the PCR/RNA, so I'm not sure which test I actually had done. Here are my questions: 1) I read that the qualitative test provides qualitative results, meaning it will come back with a positive or negative...
Avatar m tn I'm quite sure what qualitative means here, but the testing will be fine.
Avatar n tn Qualitative will only tell you whether you tested positive or negative to HBsAg.Since you tested positive, you should see a doctor and do more tests to see whether you are acute or chronic, and to see whether you will need treatment. No-one can tell you just by a single number.
789911 tn?1368636783 She said the the hcv qualitative tma. It is the most sensitive , also the other tests are more expensive. This one also has a quicker turn around time for results. She said it doesnt matter what the viral load is if I have it. If the virus is detectable at all then Im back to square one. She was nice enough to call it in for me to quest. I went in today and had it done. uggh.
Avatar f tn My only concern is my hcv dna test was qualitative and not quantitative. Idk know what the difference is.
Avatar m tn Last fall I noticed slightly darker urine and less colored stools. I had some blood/urine tests ordered by my Dr and I tested positive for HCV antibodies on 10/13/2012. I can explain this to an unprotected sex contact I had, since I don't do drugs and didn't have any blood transfusion. A number of other tests were altered, including ALT. A week later (10/20/2012) I have been tested for viral RNA (both quantitative and qualitative) and viral genotype, and they all came back negative.
Avatar m tn hi everyone.. almost a month ago, I had qualitative test and it's <15UI/ml with test sensitivity of 15UI/ml. my doc's interpretation was i have it but with very low amount of virus. but after asking from you guys about it (almost all who replied believe i don't have the virus) after two weeks, I had quantitative test and today I just got my result. it says "No detection of HCV-RNA". i was detected for HCV antibodies on May this year, never treated.
Avatar f tn "They also ran a Versant (R) HCV RNA Qualitative Assay TMA which simply had NOT DETECTED" Never mind - my doctor called Quest and it turned out that the TMA was not run - just the PCR. That explains things - I had understood that the TMA was very sensitive and wondered why it would not pick up the 11,400 reflected on the PCR.
