Avatar n tn My bottle of Humolag has 10ml--which means there are 500 units of insulin in the bottle. 1ml=100 units of insulin. This is written on the bottle, maybe if you take a good look at the bottle it could help. I am a little unclear as to why you don't know amount of insulin per day, so I am not sure if I answered your question.
Avatar m tn The amount of humalog you take is suppose to match the amount of carbohydrates you eat. if you take 20 IU of Humalog you need to eat the SAME amount of carbohydrates at each meal, else your BG will jump all over. Humalog lowers BG carbohydrates raise BG the two need to ballance. ask your MD to work out an insulin /carb ratio for you to adj the insulin to match what your eating.
Avatar n tn The studies linking vinyl chloride with cancer (particularly, liver angiosarcoma), pertains to vinyl chloride MONOMER, which is the ingredient of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the material used in shower curtains. PVC itself as a finished product seems to be inert and has not been implicated as a carcinogen. Unless you decide to burn your shower curtains (thereby releasing fumes of vinyl chloride monomers), I don't think that you're at an increased risk for developing cancer.
Avatar f tn I have a type 1 diabetic daughter she is 7 yrs old and we count carbs. She gets so many units of insulin for how many carbs she eats plus so many units for how much her numbers are above what the doc wants. That doc sounded like a real jerk. My grandma is a type 2 diabetic as well and has many problems with high numbers and we just found out that she is in begining stages of kidney failure. So its deffinantly important not to give up.
Avatar n tn I am assuming you know his carbohydrate to insulin ratio, meaning for every 10-17 carbohydrates a person eats then one unit of insulin is given. I give a range because every person is a little different in how many units of insulin they give for a certain number of carbohydrates. I usually take 1 unit for every 12 grams of carbs--but that is just my body. Next, knowing the amount of carbohydrates in certain foods will help too.

Avatar n tn t work, so now he is on Novolog. (20 units before breakfast and 20 units before dinner). (Is this a high dose?) He has had a number of low readings, sometimes as low as 35. Normally he can feel it coming on and has juice or soda and he's fine. The problem is a couple of times it hit so fast that as he is getting something to drink he passes out. I am new too all this and it's very scary when it happens.
Avatar n tn The reason to dilute U-100 insulin, where 1cc=100 units is to create a U50 or U20 insulin where 1cc has 50 or 20 diluted units. Again, having a diluted insulin can make it easier to measure out 1/4 or 1/2 units at a time. There is considerable training to safely diluting and safely using diluted insulin, but it can be a great tool if your endo wants you work with fractional units.
Avatar n tn Low Amylase Levels in Blood Low level of amylase in the body is mostly resulted due to consumption of high amounts of carbohydrates. This is the case with amylase deficiency in people with fat intolerance. As mentioned earlier, amylase catalyzes starch and complex carbohydrates. So, the higher the amount of these nutrients in the body, the more is the requirement of amylase.
Icecream drop the glilmapride 2x a day FORCES the pancreas to make insulin and can be unpredictable in its effectiveness since it MAKE the pancreas work extra hard, some times it does some times it dont dont know about the Januvia Keep the 20units of lantus *also those drugs lower high BG , eating less carbohydrates will produce less BG. ALL carbs are turned into BG.

Avatar n tn No I have not had that experience with Humalog-in fact it works very well for me. I use a sliding scale of Humalog at mealtimes and I use 14 units of Lantis each evening. Lantis is a 24 cylce insulin or a long acting insulin where Humalog is short term or short acting insulin. But this just shows you that different people have different needs. Before I used Lantis I used to use NPH-which is a shorter long acting inuslin-more like 8 hours. Have you tried giving your Novolin before you eat?

Avatar n tn So, try salmon and other anti-inflammatory foods - with salads, etc. Decrease carbohydrates. We measure our insulin on the basis of how many carbohydrates a food contains and the less the better - making a high protein diet very desirable from that perspective. If you lower your need to inject insulin, and keep on an even keel that way, and test about 7 times a day, and get up 3 times a night for a day or two to test, then you will be able to isolate your problem with the sugars.
