Avatar f tn I read that carbohydrates are the main source of energy, so it is important to eat some amount of carbohydrates daily so the body is able to function. There are different types of carbohydrates. For example breads, pasta, potatoes and rice and then there are vegetables and fruits. Can I obtain my carbohydrate intake just by eating (vegetables and fruits), or is it important that I also eat (breads, pasta, potatoes and rice in small quantities)?.

20620809 tn?1504362969 Here's a list of low glycemic foods... https://universityhealthnews.com/daily/nutrition/glycemic-index-chart/ The food is listed, along with the serving size in parenthesis, then the glycemic value. The lower the glycemic value, the better. There are a lot of other lists available on the internet - just do a search for "low glycemic foods". Most vegetables "qualify" as low glycemic, except things like white potatoes, etc.
Avatar f tn For weight gain you should try taking adequate amounts of calories as suggest for the height, weight and type of physical work with slight increased amount of carbohydrates, adequate amount of protein, slight amount of fat and plenty of fruits and vegetables. If aiming at increasing muscle mass the protein content of the diet should be on the higher side. Eating junk high calorie food can help you gain faster but is not considered a healthy.

Avatar n tn One theory is that habitual intake of simple carbohydrates means that the pancreas is always pumping out high levels of insulin to overcome the insulin resistance; this simply "wears out" the pancreas, and over time, the amount of insulin that the pancreas is able to produce decreases. Limiting simple carbohydrates and choosing foods that are less likely to increase blood sugar may help preserve the ability of the pancreas to produce insulin.
Avatar f tn Small frequent meals, a healthy weight, less of sugary carbohydrates but more of fruits and vegetables may help. If it persists, check with your doctor for proper evaluation., Take care and best regards.

1266263 tn?1270153368 Hi, The best fuel for muscles is carbohydrates, either simple sugars such as naturally occurring sugars in fruits and juices or complex carbohydrates the starches in whole grain products, rice, cereal, oatmeal and other plant foods. These carbohydrates provide not only energy but also important vitamins and minerals. You store only carbohydrates not protein or fats in your muscles in the form of sugar called glycogen. During hard exercise, you burn this glycogen for energy.
