Boy I found that I can eat protein (including steak) without much rise in my blood glucose. Whenever I have regular bread/potatoes/rice or pasta it raises my BG depending on how much I eat. I do monitor my carbs and since doing so have lowed my A1c from 7.3 to 6.2 without medications.
Avatar f tn I suggest sticking to a high protein diet and limiting the amount of carbohydrates you eat. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are all digested in a particular order and knowing this order is the key to any weight loss. If you eat a meal of steak, gravy and chips (not the best choice) the carbohydrates from the meal will be digested first and used for energy, the rest will be stored. The human body only uses what it needs at one time, and stores the rest.
Avatar f tn I eat my steak rare and have still been eating it that way while pregnant... I can't eat it when its well done I just don't like it. As long as you trust where you get your meat from and it was handled properly it won't be a problem in my opinion, but others may disagree. In a good cut of meat there is a lot less chance of bacteria than there is when it comes to things like ground beef!
Evillady So reducing the carbs you eat will help in BG control. So I eat salad and steak, veggies, no fruit (fruit has a lot of carbs) eggs, bacon, cheese, chicken, fish, garlic, and lots of herbs and spices and hot spices. There are other diabetic news groups with recipe sections.

(ie: many beers are made from wheat, barley, corn, or rice...typically high in carbohydrates. Avatar m tn Unknowingly, I did the same as Twehner and followed an Atkins type structure in selecting more lean protein, selecting healthier fats and decreasing my carbohydrates along with switching them to complex carbs. Although I tried Atkins twice, I was not able to adhere to that program. I tend to like my carbs and have chosen to eat a well balanced diet .. and make much healthier food choices .. with low-fat dairy, fresh/frozen fruits and vegetables, lean meats, complex carbohydrates.
Avatar f tn I have never had any issues with steak being medium rare. It was actually my last meal before going in to have my daughter in my second pregnancy. They do say to have all meats cooked all the way through. Medium. Not medium well. Or well done. The last two ruins meat. Especially steak. Me personally I eat my steak medium rare but if it worries you too much medium is okay too. Not my favorite but it tastes good.
664732 tn?1296823050 I agree with Barb, the type of calories can have a huge impact on weight loss, consider two diets with the same calorie level but one is high in carbohydrates and low in fat and protein while the other is more balanced, even though both diets have the same calorie level your body will react differently to them. Diets that are high in carbohydrates generally lead to obesity, even if you are at a calorie deficit!
