2019518 tn?1328532621 I am 5'1" age 52, post menopauseal since 05, and I eat healthy at least 5 meals a day. I don't smoke or drink. I exercise 5 days a week early in the mornings I do tabata workouts on an empty stomach and and in the evenings I do 45 min. light to medium high reps weight workouts. However, I can't seem to lose body fat or at least it is quite slow in comming off. I know muscle weighs more. My tabata's leave me drenched.
463841 tn?1207438535 All I can really tell you is that there is an interaction with SOMETHING in grapefruit, especially the juice, that increases the drug level in your system. Good thing? Bad thing? Xanax has such a short half-life that if you took a dose at night and ate a boatload of grapefruit in the morning, I don't THINK anything really horrible would happen. I personally have just learned to live without grapefruit and done away with one more thing to worry about. I am totally addicted to Kiwi now!
Avatar m tn If narigenin is grapefruit then it is definitely not a good idea. I didn't know what narigenin was but, if I had, I would have more strongly advised against it. Don't eat grapefruit while taking Prograf is one of the first things I was told and told many times immediately after transplant. "Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with Prograf unless your doctor has told you do(sic). Prograf can have a dangerous interaction with grapefruit or grapefruit juice.
Avatar f tn riba also, am still on soc tx. One of the restrictions during the trial was no grapefruit or grapefruit products as it interferes with the absorption of the drugs, whether for better or worse no-one mentioned. Since finishing the study drug I have adhered to the restrictions and I am still UND at 14 weeks. This is my second tx and I was a non-responder in my first tx, during which I drank grapefruit juice all the time as I love it and have a grapefruit tree in the garden.
3093770 tn?1389739126 ___________________ The drug-grapefruit juice interaction is caused by inhibition of the intestinal cytochrome P-450 enzyme system, particularly cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP450 3A4), by 1 or more of the components in grapefruit juice.
Avatar f tn I find out the sex of my little grapefruit a week from today! I'm so excited! Anyone else?
Avatar f tn Have you tried also drinking pedealyte? And have you made sure nothing in your diet is a diuretic (makes you pee) like caffeine or grapefruit juice....
Avatar m tn Alcohol does have carbohydrates in it, but different types of beverages have different amounts of carbs. It has a lot to do with what is used to make the alcohol and how it is made. (ie: many beers are made from wheat, barley, corn, or rice...typically high in carbohydrates. Wine is often made from grapes or other fruits that are then fermented to produce alcohol) In short- alcohol does have carbohydrates, but the amount of carbs varies a good bit between various types of drinks.
649848 tn?1534633700 I'm also bouncing, but in the ounces not pounds. Two days ago I happened to weigh (I don't usually weigh myself except on Sundays for these weekly reports) and I was EXACTLY where I was last week, to the tenth of an ounce, fine except I want to be on a downward trend. This morning I weighed and was down .4 of a pound. Any doctor (or statistician) would say that .4 means nothing ... your whole pound, Barb, is far more meaningful.
Avatar f tn Is grapefruit OK to eat for breakfast everyday? I tried to Google but no good answers. I know it is acidic, but I don't think harmful. Just want to make sure.
Avatar n tn No. Any grapefruit causes the liver to stop producing CYP 450 super-enzymes. These are necesssary to metabolize many drugs. Thus, at a minimum the drug will have no effect. Twenty-four hours later, the drug is still in the blood (unmetabolized) and you take a second dose. At this time the CYP superenzymes again begin to be produced sand you end up with too much of the drug metabolized. One issue is "how much grapefruit is necessary to affect the liver?" A single grapefruit is enough.
Avatar f tn t want anyone to make this mistake. There are anti depressants that are safe with grapefruit-Celexa is one of them. I called a pharmacist to confirm this and they said it was a big no-no and quite dangerous even if you don't have liver problems.
Avatar m tn There are a number of medications that one should not have with grapefruit. Other citrus are probably okay: >>Oranges, lemons and limes are less likely to interact with medications. However, tangelos, related to the grapefruit, and Seville oranges affect the same enzyme as grapefruit juice. Seville oranges are often used to make orange marmalade, and so be mindful when selecting this spread for your toast.<< From: http://drugs.about.com/od/medicationabcs/a/gjuice_drugs.
135456 tn?1301437624 Preliminary lab tests show that naringenin, a compound found in grapefruit and other citrus fruits, may curb the spread of the hepatitis C virus by 80%.That might give healthy cells a chance to regenerate and stem the tide of hepatitis C's spread. So say researchers including Yaakov Nahmias, PhD, of Harvard Medical School.
Avatar f tn There's a big thing now about a grapefruit....haven't personally tried it but i guess it was in cosmo and there's a how to video online...
7894272 tn?1395206727 We use it to measure how much energy is available in the food we intact and how much energy we use when doing activities. 1322157 tn?1279656681 , of the School of Nursing at the University of Rochester Medical Center, an expert on drug interactions, explains that grapefruit juice is one of the foods most likely to cause problems with drugs, because it is metabolized by the same enzyme in the liver that breaks down many drugs. The cytochrome P-450 3A4 enzyme breaks down grapefruit juice into useful components for body, just like it breaks down dozens of medications.

Avatar m tn the trial doc at cal pacific that is screening my friend said no grapefruit. I think she said no oj too, but I am not sure.
1815939 tn?1377991799 The active ingredient normally found in grapefruit juice caused an intestinal enzyme (CYP3A) not to allow the normal breakdown of the medication and the result was higher-than-expected drug levels in the blood. An article in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (May 2006, 83/5, 1097-1105) has now provided some insight into how this takes place.
Avatar n tn Wow looks like i should have read the warning label when my doc gave me to take them PRN or as necessary to re convert myself......okay i just went off of the site and read up on the label...they are telling us not to take it with the citrus because it effects how our body absorbs the Multaq for maximum performance of the med...if it were me and i had to take it on a daily basis i probably would stay away from all citrus drinks for sure because you want to give yourself the best shot possible...
Avatar m tn I also take Ranexa. I have had very little angina since getting a pacemaker and taking Ranexa, both happened at the same time, as well as a Lasix prescription. I love grapefruit, but have no interest in spitting on Superman's cape, so to speak. No grapefruit for me. I have no idea why grapefruit isn't recommended with Ranexa, but I'm not interested in tempting fate. I will mention, I have no light-headed problems.
