Common Questions and Answers about Carbohydrates in lentils

carbohydrate

Avatar m tn They contain certain carbohydrates called oligosaccharides which cannot be digested in the small intestine but are like food to bacteria in the colon. Cabbage, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, turnips, onions, garlic, leeks, lentils, pulses and some seeds such as fennel, sunflower and poppy all produce a lot of gas in the colon. Reducing the amount of these foods in the diet will reduce flatus. http://www.mims.co.

4776875 tn?1359048764 I eat breakfast then still feel sluggish. I need something high in protein, but not packed with meat. I eat a little big of chicken but that's eat. I really need some protein to get going. What are you favorite sources of protein?
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply. This is what baffles me you see - I eat tons of protein - loads of lentils and beans in particular. I already eat upwards of 2000 cals per day and am putting on weight because of it. I am female so that's already over my RDA. Aside from work I spend a bit of time in the garden but otherwise don't find much time for exercise. I am eating all the things I can see suggested all over the Internet already and yet still find I am never energised.
Avatar f tn When I was first diagnosed, I was lucky to have a sit down with the registered dietician attached to the health care team. For females limit carbohydrates to 60 per meal. It sure worked for me. Last lab work 4.9 FBS and A1C 5.3%.
Avatar m tn Navy beans, kidney beans, chickpeas and lentils are all rich in fiber, which slows the release of insulin and helps maintain a steady supply of energy. Almonds are standouts among healthy foods, as they contain important nutrients like magnesium and B vitamins which help convert food to energy.
Avatar m tn Alcohol does have carbohydrates in it, but different types of beverages have different amounts of carbs. It has a lot to do with what is used to make the alcohol and how it is made. (ie: many beers are made from wheat, barley, corn, or rice...typically high in carbohydrates. Wine is often made from grapes or other fruits that are then fermented to produce alcohol) In short- alcohol does have carbohydrates, but the amount of carbs varies a good bit between various types of drinks.

Avatar m tn Toxins from pesticides, plastic by products and lots of other stuff. They are found in our foods, water we drink, the air we breathe, and even in our homes. Some have been banned, but damage has already been done, as they continue to bio accumulate in the food chain and pose long-term challenges to the farming soils throughout America. A 2008 study in the prestigious journal Lancet showed that environmental toxins indeed make you fat and cause diabetes.
Avatar f tn My main concern is how rare these are- and whether or not something in particular is triggering it, since it only happens once or twice in a whole year. The time before last it happened while I was at work and I ended up passed out in the backroom. It was a nightmare. I'm turning 22 in less than a month, and this has probably been happening since I was 17 or thereabouts.

Avatar n tn I would say though that she needs to watch high carbohydrates like bread and pasta. Start reading labels to get familiar with carbohydrate grams. I think 50 grams per meal is plenty, but she needs to see a diabetic nurse to help her with all that, and also you can subtract the fiber and thats helpful too. Another important factor is serving or portions of food. I always say hospital serving size is helpful. American Diabetic Association web site has a carb counter you can use also.
Avatar m tn I will try to make this as short as possible, for the past 3 years I’ve been suffering GERD until I had the TIF incision less surgery done in late December 2010. Next 2 months have been heaven but I started noticing new symptoms arising soon after, such as:- -Difficulty in fall asleep at night which I assume is due to the air being swallowed.

Avatar f tn Tonight I went to the bathroom, and when I had a bowl movement, I had a rather large root-like thing in my stool. I've never seen anything like that before, and it's kind of worrying. I'm not sure if I didn't digest something properly or if it might be something else. Embarrassing to admit, but I also seem to have an excessive amount of gas lately and anal itching for the past couple of months.
