Avatar m tn In general, if your wife has type 2 diabetes, the risk of your child getting diabetes is 1 in 7 if she were diagnosed before age 50. People with certain rare types of type 2 diabetes have different risks. If she has the rare form called maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY), your child has almost a 1-in-2 chance of getting it, too. There is a FREE online book by Dr. Laura Dean called "The Genetic Landscape of Diabetes".

This chart tells you how many grams of carbohydrates and fat are in different types of foods and are grouped by type of food. 7894272 tn?1395206727 Carbohydrates are a part of the food we eat just like protien and fat. Carbs are high in energy. The goal with weight loss is to create a deficit so you want to use more calories each day than you intake. You will here about lots of low carb diets and this is usually because they are packed with calories and if not used will turn to sugars in your body.
Avatar f tn I have this crazy itch on my legs and only legs. It mainly happens at night. I have now learned to rub them instead of scratch after ripping many pairs of jeans from doing so. I know that I am allergic to some detergents but been using one that doesn't bother me. I never had this problem before. It starting happening, the longest I'd say a year ago. At first I thought maybe it was where I had moved to, but why would whatever it could be in the house only affect my legs.
Avatar m tn Wine is often made from grapes or other fruits that are then fermented to produce alcohol) In short- alcohol does have carbohydrates, but the amount of carbs varies a good bit between various types of drinks. As for where calories come from... You can find products that have zero carbohydrates, but are still pretty high in calories. A calorie is actually a measure of energy. Basically, everything you eat requires a certain amount of energy to "burn" it completely.
Avatar m tn My question is: is it normal to be suffering from two types of migraines? I get the classic migraine with auras and just recently in the last few months my eyes will spasm and I'll start to see these really fine silver lines flying all over that have been diagnosed as "ocular" migraines; these are new to me. I've never had an MRI done to my head and was maybe Persuing but just wanted some opinions before so.
Avatar f tn t determine your carbs by the number of calories. You have to determine how many carbs are in each serving of the individual foods you eat, as listed on the package/container. For instance a serving of bread might have 12 grams of carbs listed on the package. For help with the bar code issue, try asking your question in the Improve MedHelp Suggestions forum. The mods there should be able to help you. You can access that forum via the following link: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn People who repeatedly imagined eating a particular food ate less of it. The researchers theorize that the act of mental imagery decreased the subjects’ responsiveness to the food and decreased desire to eat it even though they still considered the food palatable. Research in the April 2011 “Obesity” examined the effects of low-carbohydrate and low-fat diets on food preferences, food cravings and appetite. Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years.
256553 tn?1258883918 and leaving your body in fatigue, dehydration (which gives the illusion of weight loss), energy loss, and excessive protein breakdown with a buildup of ketones in the body. Protein is NOT used for energy it is the building blocks of the body ie. nails, hair, muscles, tissues etc. If there is a lack of carbs, the body uses protein which prevents the proteins from doing its job, building and repairing tissues.
Avatar n tn So you would be wise to look for possible triggers to these episodes and see if you can stop the trigger instead of simply treating the episode. It is probably not dangerous unless you are one of the rare folks who actually loses consciousness, but it certainly makes you feel awful and it can affect reaction time when you are driving a car.

401095 tn?1351391770 One of the “must eat” foods on every expert’s list, cottage cheese is recommended as a substitute for other soft cheeses and dairy products. Cottage cheese provides the protein that can help boost mood and energy levels, without some of the fat of hard cheeses. Eggs: Research from the University of California, Berkeley suggests that people who suffer from depression have low amount of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine in their brains.
Avatar f tn t know if they could tell by the biopsy if it had the same characteristics of the cancer in the right breast. My mom has also had uncontrollable shaking in her left arm on occasions. They did a brain MRI and it came out clean. Could this just be stress or should they be checking for spinal mets? Would the PET scan have shown something on spine if it was there? (Scan was from bottom of skull to mid thighs).
Avatar m tn Your pancreas is not dead! Diabetes type 1 is when the immune system destroys part of the pancreas that produces insulin, but leaves the rest perfectly intact. Type 2 is when nothing is destroyed, but for some reason, you're either not producing enough insulin, or the insulin that you produce is not efficient enough. There's a clear distinction between the two, as type 1 is autoimmune 'disease'. In all cases the pancreas is still performing all the other functions correctly.
Avatar n tn SGG has covered such important topics, and I agree with the approach. You mention that your daughter gets 1 unit of insulin before meals. This is interesting to me because now that you're getting a handle on testing & food choices, it seems to me you can work with your endo to learn about carbo counting & matching her meal shot dosages to the carb content in those meals AND her activity levels and BG around the time of the meal.
Avatar n tn My main focus is muscle but I still want to be able to shed some fat while I am at it. Maybe that is the key? Month one concentrate on cardio, month two concentrate on muscle, and so forth... Thanks!
Avatar n tn I was in the ER last week and on one of the reports it came back"mild Levoscoliosis". I have known I have had scoliosis for a long time, about 38 out of 63 years. But no one had added the "levo" on to it. I am sure, I think, it means the way it bends but at this point I feel mine is going two ways. I would like to have the answer also.
733888 tn?1233849292 You know I was wondering the same thing. But I think the reason why they are doing the transvaginal ones is because the baby is sooo low. I might be wrong. But I just figured the baby hasn't reached the belly yet. Cause I'm looking forward to the belly ultrasounds..
Avatar f tn Any healthy diet, low in Fat and Carbohydrates can be of help. A daily vitamin can also help to ensure your brain is getting all it needs. Eat lots of freah fish like Salmon as it has a high consentration of Omega 3 that can help the brain function better. Will all these things together, prevent or ease the symptoms of Major Depression? Not in my oppinion, but anything that helps is a plus. I just wouldn't get your hopes up about a natural diet curing Major Depression.
