Avatar m tn but from what i know, starch is converted into sugar and you know how sugar can affect our brain... too much, it overstimulates it, too little is not good either... bread and carbohydrates can spike up our insulin and you will crave for them the more you eat them....
Avatar m tn Simple carbs are refined carbs found in many processed foods which tend to be devoid of these natural nutrients, therefore there is a greater risk that some of the energy will be converted into fat and stored. Simple carbs also are broken down faster and their glucose absorbed more quickly into the bloodstream, thus elevating your glucose levels. Protein is an important component of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are mostly made of protein.
Avatar m tn Lady, all carbohydrates get converted by the body to glucose. While vegetables and whole grains may contain less carbs then, say, sugar per volume, the cabohydrate part of them still ends up just like sugar - converted to glucose. What Millard above said is spot on.
Avatar f tn All foods may be eaten in moderation if you have diabetes, but too many carbohydrates may increase your blood glucose levels. Carbohydrates break down into sugars easily, so healthy carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes such as beans and peas and low-fat dairy products should constitute the majority of this food group.
Avatar f tn I am a T1 and just started using this app. I am sorry for posting on the wrong board. I take 6 units of Levimir twice a day. Novolog is my fast acting insulin.

Avatar f tn t determine your carbs by the number of calories. You have to determine how many carbs are in each serving of the individual foods you eat, as listed on the package/container. For instance a serving of bread might have 12 grams of carbs listed on the package. For help with the bar code issue, try asking your question in the Improve MedHelp Suggestions forum. The mods there should be able to help you. You can access that forum via the following link: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn You can still loose weight while on any Psychotropic meds. The key is exersise and food choices. You don't have to starve yourself either. I take Protriptilyne, lamictal, Klonopin, and Lithium 900Mgs a day. This is what some would call "asking to get fat." In 6 months I went from 230Lbs to 175Lbs and added 20 Lbs of solid muscle. I did this with weights, supplimentation, and dumping foods that cause fat. I even eat some fatty foods too.
Avatar f tn He has a very strong family History of diabetes; father lost both legs. Most diets are directed toward losing weight, but he does not have an ounce to lose. would just cutting out all sugar and eating a low-carb diet be enough to reverse this or is his genes just going to lead to problems. He already uses an elliptical or treadmill 30 minutes and a total gym workout 3-4 x per week. He has normal triglycerides and cholesterol is 129 and no blood pressure problems.

Avatar m tn The things you listed (leaf lettuce, high fiber cereal, fruit) are all carbohydrates, meaning they all end up in the blood in exactly the same form: glucose. To your pancreas, insulin, or your blood, it really doesn't matter wether you ate a potato, cereals, a cake, pasta, 5 spoons of sugar, 10 apples, spinach, carrots, or drank beer. The only difference is the taste on your tongue, and in the stomach. After that they all get converted to same substance - blood glucose.
Avatar f tn I see no reason to not convert it into a room for baby. It doesn't even matter if it has a window. As long as it's vented and big enough to fit everything you need in there. It's not like CPS is going to swoop in and say child neglect because you converted a huge closet into a room for a baby. You're making room for him/her and I for one think it's a very resourceful idea.
7894272 tn?1395206727 Although carbs have a high calorie content , when these are cut out it there for results in a larger proportion of your energy being derived from fats which in the long term could have implications to health and increase levels of LDL cholesterol. I personally would advise to just be more selective with carbohydrates choosing those that are complex and slower to digest. This will result in a more sustained level of energy and prolong satiety .
649848 tn?1534633700 Beer is made from grain, which stores carbohydrates in the form of starch -- specifically large, branched sugar molecules, which are chopped into pieces by naturally occurring enzymes in malted barley during the brewing process. The smallest sugar pieces are converted to alcohol by yeast, but some larger pieces remain that cannot be broken down by yeast, according to Bershaw. These remaining carbohydrates contribute to the overall calorie count for most beers.
Avatar n tn Homemade pet anti-cancer diets consisting of tasty, high quality, bio-available protein and fat, along with minimal levels of carbohydrates are very helpful for pet cancer dietary therapy. This is true for dogs and cats affected with cancer.
Avatar n tn Distressing heartburn is often the first symptom to disappear following withdrawal of carbohydrates from the die However severe, and even if made worse by factors like the back-flow of gastric juice into the esophagus in hiatal hernia, the chances of success are good. If patients come back with the complaint that the diet is no longer effective and their heartburn has returned, a closer look usually reveals that some carbohydrates have again crept into the diet.
Tbd This does not mean that all carbohydrates must be avoided but it is necessary to limit carbohydrate intake and to choose what are called complex carbohydrates in place of simple carbohydrates. The goal for a type 2 diabetic is to maintain their blood glucose within a safe range. Complex carbohydrates are broken down at a slower rate than simple carbohydrates meaning that the glucose is released into the bloodstream at a slower rate allowing more time for the uptake of glucose.
Avatar n tn Here's a breakdown on your meals: Breakfast - Lowfat dairy milk contains 12 grams of sugar per 1 cup. Every 7 grams equals one heaping tablespoon of refined sugar making 1 cup almost 2 tblsp of sugar. Nasty. Instead, try sugar free almond or hemp milk. Read carefully the nutrition label for hidden sugars. Not much could be found on Carnation sugar free instant breakfast. Contains about 27 grams of carbs.
Avatar n tn They also are seen in people eating a low carb diet where fat rather than carbohydrates are being used for energy. They are not dangerous in the presence of normal blood sugar levels. Ketoacidosis is a very dangerous condition that can happen in persons with diabetes. This is the presence of high levels of keytones simultaneous with high blood sugar levels. It reflects that the body is burning its own fat (regardless of how many carbs are eaten) because insulin is not able to work.
