Avatar n tn This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas. However, if insulin resistance is the main problem for a type 2 diabetic, then lowering the carb count may not really be the solution, and medications to help the insulin-resistance problem still may be needed.
Avatar f tn As diabetes is a disease of altered carbohydrate metabolism, then the management involves greatly limiting carbohydrate intake. The degree of restriction varies by person (you have to use your blood glucose meter to detect the impact of different foods so you can learn which foods work for you and which do not), however it can go as low as 20 g a day from some, and up to maybe 130g a day for those who are very mild and more easily managed.
Avatar m tn Chronic HBV infection is a serious global health problem with no cure, and we believe ARC-520 can potentially have a substantial impact on patient care worldwide," said Dr. Bruce Given, Arrowhead's Chief Operating Officer and head of R&D. "We will continue to take an aggressive stance on development timelines for ARC-520. We anticipate filing an IND in Q2 of 2013 and our plan is to conduct a phase 1 clinical trial in chronic HBV carriers to provide early proof of concept.
Avatar f tn Research shows some health conditions share common risk factors. For instance, Dr. Marrie says smoking is a risk factor for both MS and inflammatory bowel disease. These two diseases also share some genetic factors, which makes it even more plausible they would happen concurrently. Inflammation is also a common factor in many of the diseases that seem to go along with MS.
Avatar f tn Can I obtain my carbohydrate intake just by eating (vegetables and fruits), or is it important that I also eat (breads, pasta, potatoes and rice in small quantities)?. Or do I have to eliminate them completely from my diet???? 2. I do not understand the exact relation between the amount of carbohydrates taken and the glicemic index. Could I eat food of low glicemic index, and still obtain the amount of carbohydrates required daily???? Does high glicemic index means more carbohydrates???

For example, during the initial two to three weeks on the diet, the carbohydrate intake may be restricted to less than 60 grams per day, depending on age, health, activity level, and the extent of food sensitivities. Low-carbohydrate foods such as meat, chicken, turkey, shellfish, non-starchy vegetables, and certain nuts are emphasized instead.

DHBV infection in Pekin ducks is a recognized surrogate model for HBV infection in humans.
Avatar f tn Hi, actually bread is made from flour which is a carbohydrate, and carbohydrates (including sugar and flours) are what makes your blood sugar rise. If you were 170 at 1:15 pm 8 hours after eating only 2 slices of bread, you may indeed have a blood sugar problem. It will be important to go through with the 3 hour test, or even better, to get a blood sugar meter and start testing fasting and 2 hours after eating. Then feed this information back to your doctor.
Avatar f tn I have been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and possible Carbohydrate Intolerance. My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?
Avatar m tn By the way do you have children from your marriage and are you still worried about them?, do not think testosterone is the sole factor for all problems in men. Now, looking at your hormone levels, LH, FSH and estradiol are little elevated though I feel, if these are as per your body's make up, except for high estradiol, others may be alright, do you have these readings when you were feeling healthy?, as that would have helped to estimate your base line levels.
Avatar m tn As for rice, while it has a modest impact on blood sugar, it causes a paradoxically low insulin release. This means that Asian folks are getting most of their complex carbs from a low impact carbohydrate.

Avatar f tn Also when aiming at losing weight the protein intake may be slightly increased and the carbohydrate intake slightly lowered. The calorie requirement should also be adjusted for ones physical activities as well. Lower than adequate calorie intake can also cause weight gain, due to the stress hormones kicking in. Start with a healthy breakfast, moderate lunch and light dinner. With gradual consistent efforts, you should be able to lose weight as desired in a healthy way. Hope this helps.

Avatar m tn What has often been said is to cut down or reduce your carbohydrate intake in order to reduce/lower your glucose levels. I have written in your previous postings that you need to use Google or Yahoo to search on complex vs simple carbs. Please include a search on the Glycemic Index reference food groups. Educate yourself about the foods available to you, what you put into your body and how these foods will affect your life. All carbohydrates are broken down to glucose to produce the energy.

Avatar m tn Due to stomach problems, I have decided to try a Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Has anyone experienced relief on this diet? So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
