Avatar n tn Have you been tested for fat malabsorption? That condition can also result in a foul-smelling stool.
Avatar n tn I have carbohydrate malabsorption (otherwise known as dissacharidase defficiency). Both are just fancy names for the fact that my body doesn't make enough enzymes to break down and properly absorb carbohydrates. Like ruffmagruff, i developed this out of the blue after having a bad stomach bug. took about 14 months of being pretty miserable before we figured out what what up. It was a total fluke: i wanted to lose about 10 lbs so i tried the south beach diet.
Avatar f tn I've had messy greasy stools for the last 2 to 3 years. I have to rinse a lot of time in shower to get clean because if I keep wiping I get sore . Never new what caused it but I linked it to fat malabsorption where I can't digest the fat from my food properly. But every time I go to doctors they keep saying it's my diet which I disagree a bit ,I don't smoke don't drink and eat pretty healthy fruit and veg .
Avatar f tn Gray stools, pale stools, putty or clay colored stools may be seen in hepatitis, gallbladder disorders, or malabsorption conditions. Bile salts in the stool excreted by the liver give it a normal brown color. Obstruction to bile flow out of the liver (you may see the word "cholestasis"), or liver infections like viral hepatitis (A, B, C, etc.), may produce clay colored stools.
Avatar f tn I have IBS and sometimes my stools are hard and sometimes loose. At present they are loose and bright yellow. What could cause the yellow? I no longer have my gall bladder.
Avatar f tn When gallbladder is removed, the bile is constantly flowing from the liver into the intestine, so fat malabsorption does not result from gb removal. I've mentioned fat malabsorption because you've mentioned "oily" stools. Fat makes stool whitish, floating, foamy, sticky and foul smelling. If stools don't float it's not likely fat malabsorption. Maybe it's mucus that gives oily appearance. Mucus is translucent, not bright white as fat.
Avatar m tn Floating stools are a classic sign of malabsorption. Fat that travels through the intestine undigested will produce stools that float. These are typically loose. This is referred to as steatorrhea.
Avatar n tn Recently, my appetite has also suffered due to the burning pain.
Avatar m tn i cant digest my food. my stools are very liquid like water.and this stools are continuing for 2 years.i go to bathroo once daily. i always have a lot of gas.what should i do to get rid of this disease?
Avatar m tn About changes in stools, during the last 60 days a lot of things happened with my stools. First they were a bit more watery. Later more yellowish (no watery, 3 small pieces) and in the last days they are more normal (brown in colour but still a bit soft, 2 or 3 small pieces). They don´t smell foul and they aren´t high quantity of feces (maybe because my diet). In 3 or 4 times during the last 2 months they seemed fatty and ugly. The coincidence it started in the end of my trip.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am a 31 year old female recently diagnosed with Dissacharidase Deficiency, otherwise known as carbohydrate malabsorption. According to my gastro, a bad viral infection I acquired almost 18 months ago knocked out only my lactase enzymes, but also the enzymes neccessary to break down sugars, most carbs and all starches. I also became seriously sensitive to fructose, the sugar found in fruit.
Avatar m tn First off my BMI is currently around 16, yet I eat pretty normally (2000-3000kcal a day). So I think I have some kind of metabolism / malabsorption problem. I have always been underweight even reaching BMI of 14, but recently I got the chance to go to a doctor about this.
1240683 tn?1268232755 (Nausea, bloating, belching, constipation/diarrhea, clay colored stools, and floating stools). Some other symptoms that are seemingly unrelated are widespread tendonitis, daily headaches, and fatigue). The most bothersome symptom is the fatigue. I've had lots of tests, and the gallbladder was removed in Feb, but it didn't help. The tests were extensive blood work, endoscopy, colonoscopy, and ct scan of abdomen.
Avatar n tn 00AM Oily or floating stools (steatorrhea) suggests malabsorption or chronic pancreatitis. I would suggest tests to look for this. For chronic pancreatitis, one can obtain a plain abdominal film to look for any calcifications. Serum amylase and lipase levels can also be obtained. If this is the case, pancreatic enzyme supplementation (using medication) is indicated. For malabsorption, it would be a good idea to send the stool off for analysis.
Business woman1 But one has to rule out the other possibilities like IBS {irritable bowel syndrome, bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative Colitis, carbohydrate {sugar} malabsorption, hyperthyroidism, Addison’s disease or may be due to laxative abuse. Take adequate amount of fluids and oral rehydration solution to prevent dehydration. Maintain a good hygiene and drink clean preferably boiled water.
Avatar f tn For the last two months I have been having yellowish stools, resently it's been clay colored and I never have a solid bowl movement if I do its like 1 terd the looser clay colored stools have been resent as in a few days. I have slight abdominal pain mostly just discomfort. I have no jaundice and just a liver function test also an ultra sound everything came back fine any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Well recently I think I may have eaten a small amount of sunflower oil or soybean oil and I went to the bathroom this morning with looser floating stools. Eventually the stools sunk to the bottom, but then i noticed bubbles coming out of my stool and the bubble would go to the top of the water where it would create a slight white film on the water? what could this be?
Avatar n tn Upper and lower endocscopies were normal. Recently, a stool sample revealed traces of carbohydrates and fat, and recently my stools do seem to fit the description of steatorrhea. I'm being treated for pancreatic insufficiency by taking enzymes but it's not helping. I've had blood tests and an upper endoscopy, which would rule out celiac. I am extremely concerned that this is a rare variant of primary small intestine lymphoma.
Avatar m tn I have always been regular, having bowel movements once per day that were well formed, and left me feeling fully evacuated. About 18 months ago, my stools began getting very soft and greasy. I also became a producer of very foul-smelling gas (quite unpopular with the family, though a source of some amusement for the kids). After about 8 months, I talked to my physician about it. After various blood tests, he eventually sent me in for a colonoscopy. That came up clean - no issues at all.
Avatar m tn I have frequent floating stools that leave a clear haze on toilet water. stool is brown, soft and formed. Drs. are not concerned but I was positive this was caused by fat malabsorption related to some cancer of the pancreas. However all my tests kept coming in normal: colonoscopy, ultrasound, ct scan of pelvis and abdomen with contrast, cbc, metabolic, hida scan with ckk, stool tests including one time fecal fat test. upper endoscopy showed mild gastritis and gerd.
Avatar f tn I have had yellow stools for about 3 months. I also have upper right quadrant pain. Lower right back pain that feels muscular. I went to the ER for this pain and they said everything looks normal. Do they check for cancer in the ER room when they take your blood? They think it might be an ulcer. This all started when I started wearing heals. I started a new job and wore heals for a whole week. I never wear them. Could this be from maybe a back/spine issue?
