Carbohydrate malabsorption intestinal gas

Common Questions and Answers about Carbohydrate malabsorption intestinal gas

carbohydrate

Avatar f tn Unabsorbed lactose in lactose intolerance and fructose in fructose malabsorption are fermented by intestinal bacteria and cause gas.
Avatar n tn I have carbohydrate malabsorption (otherwise known as dissacharidase defficiency). Both are just fancy names for the fact that my body doesn't make enough enzymes to break down and properly absorb carbohydrates. Like ruffmagruff, i developed this out of the blue after having a bad stomach bug. took about 14 months of being pretty miserable before we figured out what what up. It was a total fluke: i wanted to lose about 10 lbs so i tried the south beach diet.
Avatar m tn Dear Amalgam, I can understand your concern. Abdominal bloating and flatulence can arise due to: 1) Lactose intolerence – One’s ability to digest milk goes down as one ages and an undigested milk sugar, lactose gets fermented in colon to produce flatulence. This is the commonest cause of abdominal bloating and a trial of a milk free diet for 2 weeks may help to confirm it.
Avatar m tn Have difficulty getting back to sleep, as I feel this need to belch, and am aware of digestion (sometimes some gas) in the intestinal tract. Very uncomfortable. If I get up for 15 minutes or so, suck on a menthol tablet, I can sometimes then get back to sleep. Good diet, lots of fiber. I have no idea if this is depressing me, or some depression or stress is causing that.
Avatar n tn If so what could help. I have tried everything for gas....charcoal, gas-x, aloe vera, probiotics, bitters, digestive enzymes on and on and on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.
Avatar n tn It is not a good idea to ingest activated charcoal with any medication because it will degrade the effectiveness of the dose.

Avatar f tn It seems like the sinus condition always involves gastrointestinal bloating, belching, gas, and pain in right kidney. If I eat any carbohydrate to try and fill up, I take complex digestive enzymes which helps somewhat, but I still get inflammation and pain on right side of my body from head to kidney area. Is it a lymphatic system problem? Fungus? Bacteria? If I have sinus trouble, I have digestive misery.
Avatar f tn An overgrowth of yeast here will ferment dietary sugars and starches, forming acids, gas, alcohols and a variety of organic chemicals. Symptoms include gas, bloat, heartburn and/or pain in the stomach area, and because of the organic chemicals, there can be headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, wooziness and post-meal fatigue. To clear intestinal yeast, first the tongue and mouth must be cleansed so yeast does not reenter the system with every swallow.
Avatar m tn hi, i strongly recommend you have these tests- fructose malabsorption, lactose, glucose and gluten intolerances, cheers.
Avatar n tn Beginning in February of this year I have had 4 attacks on the following dates with the indicated symptoms: Feb. 13, Diarrhea, vomited small amount, duration of a few hours April 15 Diarrhea, fair amount of vomiting, some blood in stool visible, lasted approx.
Avatar n tn ), you should ask GI to have hydrogen breath tests for fructose malabsorption, and for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. But you say not much gas comes out... Any heartburn? Acidic foods bother you?
Avatar f tn I am 29 year old male. I have a problem of frequent bloating. I spend lot of time to clear my bowel. I don't feel constipated but I feel as if gas is causing obstruction. When gas is out the motion is good and in sometime it stops and I need to wait for another pocket of gas to be out. This way I need to spend a lot of time to clear my bowel. In some days when am unable to clear my bowel completely i feel bloated and uncomfortable with flatulence.
Avatar n tn I believe the reason is because carbohydrate malabsorption feeds small intestinal bacterial overgrowth - producing gas that drives acid reflux. I have listed nine bullet points of evidence withh numerous references for my theory in an article on GERD and asthma at DigestiveHealthInstitute.org. Norm Robillard, Ph.D.
Avatar f tn bile flow running through your intestinal tract. That can irritate the tissues, cause intestinal spasms, diarrhea and general misergy. Many people have to stick to a low fat diet in order to quiet things down. When an intestinal tract is irritated, you may not process your food as well as it should be processed within the small intestine, and as a result you may push a fair amount of food through into the large intestine, and out.
Avatar n tn There are some bacteria in the gut that produce hydrogen sulfide gas. Sometimes this gas is produced in such huge quantities that the sulfide oxidase enzyme in the wall of the gut is not able to oxidize all of it and convert it to thiosulfate. This gas has a smell of rotten eggs. You need to cut down food items that contain sulfites. Most of this gas comes from sulfites a person consumes, which is a part of all preservatives.
Avatar f tn Over the past year I have lost a lot of weight and am experiencing many 'IBS-like' symptoms. This includes stomach aches, varying food transit times (often very fast), undigested food in stools, blood in stools and large amounts of mucus in stools. I have since been diagnosed with coeliac disease, pancreatic insufficiency and have been told that I have 'complex malabsorption problems' that the doctors can't seem to put a name on?
Avatar f tn At 9 1/2 my daughter complained of blurred vision when trying to focus on small print. Shortly after, she developed severe biological depression, which unfortunately was treated with Zoloft without realizing she had Central (hypothalamic) hypothyroidism. The blurred vision turned out to be due to far-sightedness, and when trying to focus up close, the left eye drifted to the left. This is corrected with prismatic reading glasses.
Avatar n tn hi im a 23 year old male and i have had ongoing problems with gas and indegestion for 3 years now. my gas gets bad at times and get stuck in my throte. feeling like a ball stuck down there, its hard for me to talk. also have pain just below my chest in my diafragm area. also gas pain in my small intestin. but usually just bloted. the gas usually doesnt smell at all. i saw a doc and was prescribed mylanta gas and omeprazole an acid reducer.
Avatar n tn any small intestinal disease can cause malabsorption. Celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease) are most often. Lactose intolerance would cause only diarrhea and not problems with growing, I guess. Some rare genetic diseases are possible, where some particular digestive enzyme (normally produced in small intestinal wall) is lacking. WHAT TO DO: Check what pancreatic tests were done and what are exact results. I would really stick with gastro causes for now.
