Avatar f tn Extracted from the seeds of a legume called Griffonia simplicifolia, 5-HTP is a precursor to serotonin. The theory of using 5-HTP for carbohydrate cravings is linked to serotonin deficiency as the source of those cravings. 5-HTP increases serotonin secretion and helps stop cravings. A study in the October 2009 “International Journal of Obesity” reported that obese women who took 5-HTP had greater appetite control and lost weight.
Avatar f tn I have been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and possible Carbohydrate Intolerance. My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?
Avatar n tn Third, do you know if your intestinal flora is healthy?
2026060 tn?1328918475 One study reported that consuming reconstituted fruit juices and beverages high in carbohydrate and osmolality (a measure of concentration), either just before or during exercise triggered the onset of a stitch, particularly in susceptible individuals. The symptoms didn't seem to be related to the amount of food eaten (gastric volume).
Avatar f tn Okay so I wanna test this theory I have. During my pregnancies with my 2 boys I had abnormal results on my pap smear however after pregnancy they were normal (so it was obviously just a false result due to pregnancy) however with this pregnancy my pap smear results were normal. I don't know the gender for this baby yet but I have a feeling its a girl. So I've decided to test the theory that girls give normal pap smear results and boys give abnormal.
Avatar m tn Due to stomach problems, I have decided to try a Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Has anyone experienced relief on this diet? So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
Avatar f tn When used in larger amounts, as in cooking and baking, these calories and carbohydrate should be accounted for by carbohydrate counting or by using starch/bread exchanges. As an example, one half cup of SPLENDA® Granulated contributes 12 grams of carbohydrates and 11 to 20 grams are counted as one starch exchange. In SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener Packets, sucralose is combined with maltodextrin and dextrose. These ingredients contribute 1 gram of carbohydrate and four calories per packet.
Avatar f tn 12 They compared groups consuming diets of 90% fat, 90% protein, and 90% carbohydrate and showed that the greatest weight loss was in the fat consuming group. The authors concluded that the “composition of the diet appeared to outweigh in importance the intake of calories.
Avatar f tn What is the best way to treat mild faecal loading in the stomach and how long would it take to get it cured ? the symptoms of gas and bloating are really severe in my case.
Avatar n tn Why do you have to lose so much weight? Isn't that unhealthy? Do not go on carbohydrate diets and avoid trans and saturated fats. To obtain a healthy fat diet though, eat avocados with strawberries in organic salad mix. Snack on almonds and cranberries! Exercise every day and try to find a partner to exercise with.

Avatar n tn t know enough gastroenterology to figure out why this happens. My only theory is that carbohydrates increase the osmolarity of the stomach contents enough to draw more acid from the stomach walls (as proteins and fats would have a much lower contribution to osmolarity), but that seems simplistic at best. Anyone have any insights or theories as to why this is? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn In a lot of illnesses (physical and mental health), there appears to be a "genetic loading" where people will have a certain amount of the required genetics but that a severe biopsychosocial trigger turns the genes "on." The heavier the genetic loading, the less severe the trigger needs to be...it's a huge start to see scientists finding these triggers.
