Avatar n tn the thing that helped me the most was something called the specific carbohydrate diet, which is quite strict. i was on it for 5 months -- big improvement in digestion. however, i lost too much weight (i'm quite thin) and it was very incovenient for me. if you can commmit yourself to it, i would highly recommend it. also, water fasting has helped me in the past temporarily. i've done it from one day to about 4 days.
4630695 tn?1357357910 I need to know what can i do to improve my digestion or what to take to make things better in the long run. I have probiotics from RenewLife called critical colon and idk if i should start taking it? Any advice is well appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar n tn It's not risky, but don't know how it would control diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes is a dietary disease, so it's possible it's beneficial effect on some people's digestion might be in play here, as well as its bitter qualities, but others don't do well on it -- it depends on the acid/alkaline state of a particular person's digestive system. Good for those who need it, maybe not so much if you don't.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am a 31 year old female recently diagnosed with Dissacharidase Deficiency, otherwise known as carbohydrate malabsorption. According to my gastro, a bad viral infection I acquired almost 18 months ago knocked out only my lactase enzymes, but also the enzymes neccessary to break down sugars, most carbs and all starches. I also became seriously sensitive to fructose, the sugar found in fruit.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! What do you mean by "weight over a 150 pounds to boot"? Do you mean that she needs to loose 150 pounds to be at a normal weight? How long has this been going on for? Has she seen a doctor about this?
Avatar f tn I have been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and possible Carbohydrate Intolerance. My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?
Avatar m tn in this case, google "special carbohydrate diet". It is a diet which got invented for people with huge bowel problems like H pylori, crohns and IBS. The goal in this diet is to a) kill bacteria by starving them, but not you, b) get some easy digestible nutrients back into you, c) get the inflammation down and d) change the bacterial flora so no bad bugs can survive. Give it a test run for 1 month, and if it is not helping, you can always go back.
Avatar n tn I also wanted to add, I hope they are soaking the corn flakes? Anything made into a saluable solution can cause the food to expand in your horses stomach therefore creating numerous digestion/gastrointestinal issues, such as frequent colic.
1774905 tn?1314262865 I found out that I have a very slow digestive system and was given some meds to help my stomach muscles digest my food, for big meals. They are not for long term. I am on medication for GERD indefinitely now. I had Polyps as well (had an Endoscopy & a Colonoscopy around the same time - same day???). Polyps non-cancerous and removed, but in family. Diabetes in family. My sugar total, overall, is 300. But not diagnosed as diabetes.
1303110 tn?1273247668 Foods that will help you gain strength and give you energy are proteins (like eggs, hamburgers, seafood, beans) and eat those with a carbohydrate like toast, cereal, spagetti. If you have been sick for a while, drink stuff like V-8 and milk, to restore your electrolytes and vegie nutrients.
Avatar m tn I went the doctor and they said that this can be a result of IBS ..which I have suspected that I have had for a long time but I have done nothing about. Do you think that my heart problems could be associated with my IBS or should I have more test done?
Avatar n tn This can happen to people when they have not eaten in a long time or if they eat something that has a lot of quickly digested carbohydrates that cause the pancreas to be stimulated too much. What happens is that your pancreas produces too much insulin, which is the OPPOSITE of being diabetic, whereby the pancreas does not produce enough insulin. A glucose tolerance test is used to test for reactive hypoglycemia, which is when a person becomes hypoglycemic after eating high-sugar foods.
886699 tn?1270779744 This happened to me not long ago with a prescription for metformin, a diabetes medicine I was prescribed in a fairly high dose. I actually had to cut down on it before that smell was gone...but mine was not ammonia. i can't really put my finger on what it smelled like but I didn't like it. If you are not on any new meds you might need to pay a visit to an ear, nose and throat Dr. to get to the bottom of it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Does anyone have an answer that will help her with constipation and digestion? She has to take a ton of laxatives just to go to the bathroom at all. She eats very little and is a vegan.
