Common Questions and Answers about Carbohydrate digestion glucose

carbohydrate

Avatar n tn It's not risky, but don't know how it would control diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes is a dietary disease, so it's possible it's beneficial effect on some people's digestion might be in play here, as well as its bitter qualities, but others don't do well on it -- it depends on the acid/alkaline state of a particular person's digestive system. Good for those who need it, maybe not so much if you don't.
645800 tn?1466860955 m aware a seafood itself is a good diabetic choice as it does not have any carbohydrate so it will not cause blood glucose to rise, but most fried foods can affect your blood sugar because fat slows down digestion and can cause delayed high glucose levels, theoretically shrimps ok but fry anything and it's not....
Avatar f tn Resistance training, running and any other strenuous exercise deplete glycogen in the muscles. Recovery sports drinks are superior to water because the body needs more than just water after exercise to replenish energy stores. During recovery, the body is busy removing lactic acid and replacing depleted glycogen supply.
Avatar n tn And if there is any concern for my problems (shakes and lightheadedness)and if it helps I get headaches on a regular bases also my mother while pregnant with me was glucose intolerant. If you have any idea of my problem please help. Thank you for reading this, Stephanie A. Harris P.S. Should I get tested by a doctor for diabetes?
Avatar n tn I find that if I eat pizza at dinner I almost always have a rise in glucose while I am sleeping. The fats combined with the carbs delay the digestion time. It is good to know this so you can learn to adjust. I find it enough of a problem that I actually rarely eat pizza. The only way to perfect the control would be to do a blood test in the middle of the night and to then adjust with extra insulin. French fries are the other fat-laden carbohydrate that I notice digests equally slowly.
Avatar f tn Hi Ladies. I'm 37yrs old FTM. I'm having glucose testing early (@ 12 wks) as diabetes runs in my family. Any advise on breakfast items that are okay to eat the day of, or should I just fast???
Avatar n tn For the type 2 diabetic, I also have read (from the Atkins people) that their diet is a good way to lower glucose levels. This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas.
Avatar f tn I got my glucose test back and they said it was lower than normal. It's supposed to be between 70-140. It's way lower than 70. Is there anything I can do more to make sure I have my heathy baby girl.
7628588 tn?1392763151 Yes, adopt a Paleo lifestyle. Humans were not designed to run on the carbohydrates we typically consume daily. They were seasonal treats found during the warm months of the year, honey, berries, and fruit. Our bodies have not evolved sufficiently to run on carbohydrates. Rampant Type II diabetes is proof of that. So, do you really want to lose weight, and lower your blood glucose level? No "white stuff".
Tbd This means that it is rapidly metabolized resulting in a rapid increase in blood glucose. This in turn leads to the rapid release of insulin which performs the role of "escorting" the glucose into your cells in order to produce ATP. Simply stated, ATP is what fuels our bodies. However, an individual with type 2 diabetes mellitus does not produce sufficient insulin or is not capable of utilizing endogenous insulin in order to facilitate the transport of glucose into the cells.
Avatar n tn Your glucose [blood sugar] levels are higher than normal but not that high to cause gastrointestinal problems. I feel your issue is beyond the expertise of your current doctor. I suggest you see a Gastroenterologist, a doctor who trained and specializes in the digestive system and its disorders. Blood draws and possibly a scan is in order. Lastly, do not take anything unknown to you that may increase your discomfort further than it is. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I am suffering with type II Diabetes from the last 1yr and using metformin 500mg twice a day, glucose levels are fasting 140-150 and post is 200 i need to change any medicine, i am walking daily 8km and doing normal excersize
232342 tn?1192696720 Your husband's fasting glucose level is higher than normal. Stress can cause glucose levels to rise, but if they stay elevated (you wrote that they were elevated at his last checkup also, so they appear to have been elevated for a long enough period of time to cause concern), they can cause damage to his body. I would call his doctor and schedule a follow-up appointment to find out what the doctor wishes to do to help him achieve good health in this area.
Avatar n tn I have recently stared fertility testing and my fasting glucose level was 96. My doctor said it needs to be below 90. All the information I have read said that anything below 110 is normal . I am now on a diabetic diet for gestational diabetes. Why is it important to be 90 or below before getting pregnant? Could this cause infertility? Since I've been on the diet my fasting glucose ranges from 91 to 97.
Avatar m tn What has often been said is to cut down or reduce your carbohydrate intake in order to reduce/lower your glucose levels. I have written in your previous postings that you need to use Google or Yahoo to search on complex vs simple carbs. Please include a search on the Glycemic Index reference food groups. Educate yourself about the foods available to you, what you put into your body and how these foods will affect your life. All carbohydrates are broken down to glucose to produce the energy.
Avatar n tn The reality is that you could easily be going from elevated glucose levels to low glucose levels as your body tries to stabiiize its glucose. This situation is fairly common when people are dealing with insulin resistance. It can lead to type 2 diabetes, and many people do suffer from hypoglycemia before developing type 2 diabetes. Other people never develop type 2 diabetes at all, but remain hypoglycemic.
1763618 tn?1315807367 I might add, your last A1c of 12% is dangerously high, almost suicidal. An A1c of 12% equates to a daily glucose level of 298 mg/dl - 3 times above the maximum normal range of 99 mg/dl . Please do yourself a BIG BIG favor by making a lifestyle change now. Focus on a diabetic diet/nutrition plan, maintain normal body weight, and perform 30 minutes of daily physical exercise to help burn off that excess sugar. No amount of medicine will prevent the nasty side effects of diabetes.
Avatar f tn All diabetics are a bit different in what we can eat and still keep our blood glucose in target range. In general most of us find we need to eliminate sugar and greatly reduce carbohydrate intake especially things like white bread, cereal rice and pasta. The best way to know what works for YOU is to try a certain food and test your blood glucose two hours after eating and make sure you stay within target.
Avatar f tn It doesn't really matter what you call it. Once your body starts being unable to effectivelly lower the blood glucose by itself, there's no going back. You can, however, delay the full-blown Type 2 by considerably reducing the amount af carbohydrate intake, and by immediatelly burning the ones that you do eat with excercise or heavy work.
1539720 tn?1292979390 Carbohydrate cravings, blurry vision and excessive thirst thirst are hallmarks of a glucose utilization syndrome, as pointed out by remar. There are several tests indicated. A fasting glucose or insulin clamp protocol, as well as an hba1c. Provisional diagnosis: Rule out diabetes.
Avatar n tn If the diet does not contain enough carbohydrate to supply the body with glucose or sugar, stored fat is broken down instead and ketones are made. Do keep us posted. Best regards.
Avatar m tn I always take 2 or 3 pulkas or chapathis during night every day and i dont eat rice during night.. But whenever i check the blood glucose levels with the glucometer, i find that the fasting values are not within the range of normal values viz 110 for fasting. but the post lunch levels always within the normal range of viz 140.The random levels always varies from 125 to 150. Kindly advise me whether i am diabetic and do i have to take medicine for diabetes?
Avatar f tn Without fueling your body, you might not be able to exercise as long or as intensely, or you may have less energy or even dizziness if your blood glucose level drops. You may also tend to overeat after you exercise or later on in the day. Your body breaks down the food you eat into glucose in your blood, or as stored energy called glycogen in your liver and muscles. Having glucose provides you with energy production for your workout.
1925135 tn?1323307656 If you load your diet with proteins and fats, and minimize your carbohydrate intake, you can possibly bring your blood glucose levels back into a near normal range. This is very dependent on how much insulin you're still able to produce. But remember, there's no cure, only control. You can only reverse the symptoms. Once you've been labeled, you've got it for life. Good luck.....
