Common Questions and Answers about Carbohydrate counting type one diabetes

carbohydrate

Avatar m tn I agree that type one diabetes is manageable. Does your loved one work with anyone in the office like a nurse to help get stabilized and used to checking levels and things like that?
Avatar f tn When used in larger amounts, as in cooking and baking, these calories and carbohydrate should be accounted for by carbohydrate counting or by using starch/bread exchanges. As an example, one half cup of SPLENDA® Granulated contributes 12 grams of carbohydrates and 11 to 20 grams are counted as one starch exchange. In SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener Packets, sucralose is combined with maltodextrin and dextrose. These ingredients contribute 1 gram of carbohydrate and four calories per packet.
973741 tn?1342342773 I'm wondering about this topic. Does counting your carbs help prevent diabetes? An essential thing to do if you are worried about diabetes? What are the best ways to do this?
Avatar m tn It has helped control my diabetes until this past year. Are you counting your carbohydrate intake and keeping it within the recommended amount every day?
Avatar f tn I have type II diabetes. I have trouble making a healthy meal for me. Can anyone give me some sugestions on what to fix?
Avatar n tn First, you must realize that there is a huge difference in the treatment of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. For the type 2 diabetic, I also have read (from the Atkins people) that their diet is a good way to lower glucose levels. This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas.
Avatar m tn if possible , start carbohydrate counting. You may need to buy a basic scale in order to measure raw materials going into your curries and their carbohydrate count. The net has number of sites which can help in calculation. Best of health.

Avatar n tn for something sensible like a day or two of meal plans. The big thing is carbohydrate counting so get a carb book. If he takes Humalog insulin, dose would be 1 unit per 10 grams carb. If not, you must watch the simple sugars carefully. Small amounts of fruit are okay and larger amounts can be tolerated after eating protein.

Avatar n tn Changing lifestyle habits can go a long way in controlling type 2 diabetes. India leads the world in diabetes. This is mainly due to poor diet/nutrition. Things he must do: Restrict & avoid refined sugars, high carbohydrate foods, practice, avoid dairy products like milk and yogurt, avoid food made with white flour [breads, crackers, etc].
Business man2 Let us not forget Type 2 diabetes is associated with obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, lack of daily 30-60 exercise, and above all poor food choices. In its early stage it is possible to reverse diabetes. This does not mean you can ignore lifestyle changes by going back to the bad habits which created your diabetes, it means you must adhere to a diabetic prevention lifestyle or it will return.
Avatar f tn I have type II diabetes. Blood sugar averages around 160. I was diagnosed w/Atrial Fibrrulation in June, CHF in May. I just checked my BS a half hour ago and it was 309. Ehat should I do? It's 1:20AM here.
Avatar n tn Yes, this sounds like pretty classic hypoglycemia. The difference between this condition and diabetes is this: in Diabetes, the body's pancreas does not make enough insulin to covert carbohydrates that are eaten into energy. Without insulin, these sugars build up in the bloodstream and the person becomes ill. In Hypoglycemia, the pancreas makes too MUCH insulin at times, and this overdose of insulin, if you will, causes the symptoms you describe.
Avatar n tn this captured my since my mom has type two diabetes. i did some digging around the internet and found some studies that prove this but I'm not convinced, Is there anyone out there that has tried apple cider vinegar? and if so is it wotth it or is it to risky?
Avatar f tn Carbohydrate restriction will only go so far. If you are in your 40's, 50's, or 60's, you can't go on living on low carb food if you are really active. I can't. There is a reasonable alternative to the American diabetes diet. It's the diet and lifestyle. This is a "wholistic" approach to stemming the cause of type 2 diabetes. All other measures are costly temporary fixes at best. Here is a link that might be useful: http://www.
Avatar m tn I am 21 years old, had a had a baby a year ago and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes almost 1 month and a half ago. And I have definitely noticed a significant amount of weight gain. I am still trying to get a handle on my diabetes. I am using FlexPen and take 2 shots of 24 units a day. I am starting to get depressed by all the weight gain and even just the daily fight with my Blood Glucose.
Avatar n tn The treatment is totally depend on what type of diabetes you have. If it is type 1 then it is not treatable, for that consult your doctor and follow the treatment. But in case of type 2 diabetes, there is chances of getting control over it. Also regular exercise is the most important to maintain healthy sugar level.
