Avatar f tn With my first baby, early on in pregnancy, I was eating pickles like crazy. Then for the rest of the pregnancy, I hogged down tomato soup and canned ravioli. I loved the tomato sauce. With this baby, I'm currently 12 weeks. I have no urge for pickles but I can eat Hot Cheetos like they're candy, and I can drink coffee like it's cold milk (though I only do it about once a week). I've constantly been craving refried beans now .___.

Avatar f tn You can eat the beans that way, or you can smush them into refried beans and flavor them. Then you can pour that excess water back into to find the desired consistency you like your refried beans. Why go through this work instead of buying canned beans? For one, doing it my way you get more than just a small can of beans, its like cooking in bulk. Second, they cook those beans in LARD and use lots of salt. You are adding unwanted fat and salt to your meal.

Avatar n tn Well, canned refried beans are more money and those beans are cooked in LARD, which makes the beans full of fat and sodium. Cooking beans from scratch are all protein and no fat. Those are just a couple of things I do.
Avatar m tn veggie burgers and homemade (baked) frys... homemade bean (if you use canned refried beans, make sure you buy lard free, or vegetarian) and veggie burritos with rice... nice big salads... veggie lasagna or pasta.... Prettymuch anything you can make with meat or dairy, you can make vegan or vegetarian... and Iv found that more often than not, the meat free ones taste much better!

Avatar f tn When you buy the canned refried beans, those are cooked in LARD and are full of fat and sodium. You rinse the the dried beans through a colander and soak them in water over night. Then you cook them on the stove top for about two hours, adding water if necessary. This way, you are cooking them in bulk and you can use them for days. Anyways, when they are done cooking, you drain the excess water and smash them, I use a potato masher.

Warm them up on the stove with about a tablespoon of veg oil. Theres your beans. Chop up some tomatoes, green onion, avocado, lettuce and grate some cheese. Now for the weird part...I dont like to fry tortillas or anything so I just take some nacho cheese doritoes and crush them up.
