Avatar f tn Carbohydrate restriction will only go so far. If you are in your 40's, 50's, or 60's, you can't go on living on low carb food if you are really active. I can't. There is a reasonable alternative to the American diabetes diet. It's the diet and lifestyle. This is a "wholistic" approach to stemming the cause of type 2 diabetes. Avatar n tn I find that if I eat pizza at dinner I almost always have a rise in glucose while I am sleeping. The fats combined with the carbs delay the digestion time. It is good to know this so you can learn to adjust. I find it enough of a problem that I actually rarely eat pizza. The only way to perfect the control would be to do a blood test in the middle of the night and to then adjust with extra insulin. French fries are the other fat-laden carbohydrate that I notice digests equally slowly.

My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?

Avatar n tn First, I'm not a doctor, but I don't believe fibromyalgia has a known cause or even a consensus set of symptoms -- it's a disease defined by symptoms, not a cause. But I don't believe menopause can "bring it on." That would imply it was a hormonally caused disorder, as that's the only change menopause brings on that would seem to be at issue. So I'm not sure this diagnosis is accurate or if it is the cause doesn't seem to be accurate.
Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.

I have always been given different recommendations for different meals as well. In general, the recommendation is 30-60 grams for meals, and 15-30 for snacks, but again- talk to your doctor about your situation specifically.
