Avatar n tn I had good luck with the Carbohydrate addicts diet or CAD. I lost 50 lbs but as the time has gone by I have stayed at a higher weight than I like. Their web-site is http://www.carbohydrateaddicts.com I have eaten this way for 12 years and it is easy to follow once you know the "rules" The diet also travels well and I can get the right foods anywhere on vacation.
Avatar f tn I am coping and doing my best, but I was wondering if anyone knows of support groups for adults with either CSID or carbohydrate malabsorption. I can find groups for parents with kids who have these disorders, but nothing for adults. Just want share stories, make some friends who understand and perhaps swap some recipes. Also looking for a good nutritionist/dietitian referral in the southern california area if any one can pass along a recommendation.
Avatar f tn ). We have a 5yr old daughter that needs her Mommy around!
Avatar m tn My wife doesn't know anything about my issue. Should I try to kick it alone tell her to use her support? Any advice is greatly appreciated! If I'm going to do this I'm going to need you all!
3200158 tn?1386592717 I dont have any answers here but I definately offer my support and encouragement for anyone struggling with withdrawals (yes they DO end) and early recovery. The support I got here was amazing!!! I thought I would be in less pain, but miserable and obsessed with pills. But, by reaching out to other addicts, getting honest(still trying there), and just talking about these things I find I have hope, a positive attitude, and (one day at a time) Im living life!!!
Avatar f tn I have been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and possible Carbohydrate Intolerance. My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?

Avatar m tn How do you find local support groups in your area for narcotic addicts. Is there a website?
Avatar f tn I'm sorry your having a hard day Amy. Your right around that month mark and it could be PAWS. Are you craving bad also? Just think of what we just put ourselves through with our relapses and how long it takes to feel better, pills are the last thing you need right now. I know it's hard when we are craving or feeling down, but try to stay busy, turn on the tunes, bake me some christmas cookies, go for a walk, some excercise will help and keep your mind from negative thoughts.
Avatar f tn Educate yourself on this disease and maybe check out Al Anon a support group for loved ones of addicts.. Please think carefully read the stories in the other forum ask yourself is this what I want for my life, It will be the most Important question you ask yourself..
Avatar f tn I failed for over 15 years. I've been clean now for two. Although we are all different, as addicts, we are all the same. Is now your time? Only you can answer that, and it will be an on going answer. And deep down, you know how to get clean, but STAYING clean is the trick. There is an old saying - if you don't learn from your past you are doomed to repeat it. So, I did three things, and I did them while I was in detox hell - first, cut your sources.
498385 tn?1362449404 i would think that it is EXTREMELY hard to recover when there are two addicts in the house...especially if their drug of choice is the same!!!
Avatar f tn As diabetes is a disease of altered carbohydrate metabolism, then the management involves greatly limiting carbohydrate intake. The degree of restriction varies by person (you have to use your blood glucose meter to detect the impact of different foods so you can learn which foods work for you and which do not), however it can go as low as 20 g a day from some, and up to maybe 130g a day for those who are very mild and more easily managed.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know of a good online support forum for spouses of Addicts, preferably prescription pill addicts. I want to talk to others who are affected by wives or husbands who are abusing ... so that I don't feel alone. My wife is a long time abuser. I've come to realized that I'm am powerless, a meager blip on the radar that sweeps ever so cunningly for its next fix. It is obvious that nothing else is as important as hydrocodone - I don't even know who she is anymore.
1053987 tn?1279304510 As funny as this may sound, you should check into eating as if you have diabetes. I'm talking carbohydrate counting plus exercise. A high fiber diet low in saturated fats is how we should all be eating actually, even people without diagnosis. You don't have to remove anything fully from your diet, we all need a treat here and there or we go crazy, and do not cut out carbs all together, carbs are the fuel we need to function.
Avatar f tn In response to your post I looked aagain and found nothing that matches your question. Therefore I went ahead and set up a forum entitled Support for Family Members and Friends of Addicts. Please feel free to post to this forum. I will also post to it. Thanks for your excellent suggestion.
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome. 2 months is great. Reaching out to other addicts is what has given me strength. My addiction pretty much destroyed me. I'm on day 2. Thanks for posting. I love seeing people with clean time. It gives me such hope!
Avatar f tn Even with the sub, I felt pretty awful yesterday. Today has been a little better. I guess I am just posting for support. I need all the help I can to hang on. I have 2 small kids at home. I am trying to hang on for them. For my family. I don't want to live like this anymore, but I feel so weak physically at the moment.
Avatar m tn Due to stomach problems, I have decided to try a Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Has anyone experienced relief on this diet? So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
Avatar f tn When used in larger amounts, as in cooking and baking, these calories and carbohydrate should be accounted for by carbohydrate counting or by using starch/bread exchanges. As an example, one half cup of SPLENDA® Granulated contributes 12 grams of carbohydrates and 11 to 20 grams are counted as one starch exchange. In SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener Packets, sucralose is combined with maltodextrin and dextrose. These ingredients contribute 1 gram of carbohydrate and four calories per packet.
Avatar f tn So far I've been so nauseous. I hate milk. I'm taking the LLysine with B6, sublingual B12, cal/mag/zinc & protein bars. But I'll get the whey tomorrow & try. I'm willing to take any suggestion today. Thank you for being here, for staying clean, & helping us all. Apparently you have a clear understanding of the 12th step.
Avatar f tn There are many free support systems for addicts. NA/AA, SMART recovery, and Celebrate recovery to name a few. There is Outpatient Rehab, addictions counseling, CBT. Personally, I was on opiates for medical reasons. But after suffering some extreme trauma from medical procedures and an abusive marriage, I began to abuse my meds. I sought help here first. Then I listened and did a lot of research and ended up doing SMART recovery, addictions counseling, CBT, and EMDR for my PTSD.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know of any good support group for spouses of cocaine addicts. My husband has major issues and I could use some support and guidance right now.
