Avatar m tn ve been on that High Fat Low Carb diet. But my mother is in town and after taking her to the city zoo, and doing a bunch of walking, I decided to take her to a Thai place. It was the first time eating a carb meal in a month. It was drunken noodles, with tomato, basil, and chicken. Some sites say that as long as it's under 140 im fine. But the internet says crazy things sometimes. I wanna hear from real people.
Avatar n tn Your lab results will dramatically change if you make these flours a part of your daily routine. Add a Tbsp of flaxseed meal to your morning bowl of oatmeal. Add oatmeal and or flaxseedmeal to your meatloaf instead of rice or bread or crackers. You can even slip some into your spaghetti sauce. Baking exclusively with these flours is quite tricky. Meat Oils Creams Nuts Cheeses are pretty much fair game for you and they make you feel full.
Avatar f tn Definitely no sugar but it helps to walk for at least 15 min after each meal. Watch out with fruits Iuusually count them as my carb when I would snack. I had GD last pregnancy and it was a challenge but I stuck to my diabetic diet and was able to control it. The great thing about it is I only gained 26 lbs total, unlike this time around I'm 30 weeks and have already gained 27!
1568296 tn?1295471273 t correct for the total per meal. This is for fat, carb, protein and calories. If I made only one entry, a snack of an apple for example, then the total is correct. However when there is a list of items the total for the meal is not accurate and in some cases very far off. Therefore my tracker is not correct either. Is this possibly a bug?
Avatar m tn My mother is 57 years old. She was found diabetes type 2 in 2010. In 2010: Blood sugar is 7.3 mmol/L before meal and 9.8 mmol/L after meal. The doctor didn't give any medicine or treatment, just give advice to control sugar input and do some sport. In 2012: Blood sugar is 8.9 mmol/L before meal and 10.0 mmol/L after meal. The doctor gave Metformin and three pills a day. But it was not that helpful...Blood sugar is always 8.3 mmol/L before meal and 9.5 mmol/L after meal.
1091845 tn?1263162000 I am on insulin. I use 20ml of Lantus and 11ml of Novarapid with meals. These are the doses I was told to take by my Doctor. I am waiting for my first appointment with a dietician at the hospital and I need to see her because I have been told nothing about how to count carbs. My Doctor said that the dietician will explain all of that to me when I see her. I have experienced lows before and I had plenty of signs, shaking, sweating, feeling wek etc.
Avatar f tn I used flax seed meal for helping me keep my weight up, putting it into smoothies, oatmeal, etc. It makes wonderful cornbread. Check out this post: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn I am on my third day of a low carb diet. I feel very bloated in my stomach. I have been drinking my water. So will this bloating go down or is this how my body reacts to low carb diets?
Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
Avatar n tn Both to catch hidden carbs in foods and also because his activity levels may be very different from the norm. If he tests a couple of hours after the meal, he can correct if your estimates were off. Some restaurants, particularly chain restaurants, may have carb counts available, but I think you will just have to ask in each restaurant if a carb count is available.
Avatar f tn For example, if you are going to eat 30 g of carb at 1 meal, then you need to know how many units of insulin will cover that. It may be 1 unit of insulin covers 10 g of carbs? or maybe 1 unit covers 5 g of carb. During pregnancy this will continue to change and you will continue to need more insulin. Has your dr instructed you how to do corrections with insulin. For example, when I am high, I know that 1 unit of insulin will bring my blood sugar down by 10 points.
Avatar n tn Flax seeds not exposed to large amounts of heat stay safe to eat for at least a year. However, flax meal, and especially flax oil, are a different story. The meal, stored away from heat and light, will keep fresh for a few months, and the oil must be protected by refrigeration in dark containers, preferably being consumed within a few weeks of opening.
9714743 tn?1466703906 since the carb count in any food veries very widely from 4 for a cup of brcokoly to 68 for ice cream. knowing the "big or small" of a meal is useless. you need to know how much of what you ate. Back to the OP post if you can eat 20 gr of carbs and have good BG (BG under140) then eating more than 20 gr is going to lead to elevated BG. Elevated BG leads to going blind, going on dialyses, hart attacks, excuseating pain in the feet which leads to gang green and foot/leg amputation.
Avatar m tn She said to limit my carb intake to 180g per day. So instead of counting calories I count carbs (I also keep track of calories though). I worked out 3 of my 6 days for p90x and still lost 6lbs last week by doing this. So excited because I did p90x for 30days without skipping any days and I was staying in my calorie range, and I only lost 2lbs and I gained a body fat percentage. I was not watching my carbs. Now that I am, I have felt better and am finally dropping pounds. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn From what I have read, the low carb diet is ideal for people like you, although if hypoglycemia persists, you may find that you need to increase the carb count in whichever meal precedes the usual glucose drop by a small amount until the drop ceases to happen. I encourage you to do some reading on how low carb diets work.
Avatar n tn Im 19 and I was told that I'm prediabetic and I have no clue what to eat Im scared to eat anything I've been fasting lately. Im overweight which makes it hardly Im always freaking out after I eat. The doctors don't want to tell me much as for eating do you guys have any meal planning ideas ?
Avatar n tn cheese eggs and a little bit of slightly sweetened drink. Total carbs around 10g. 1 hour after breakfast, it was only 90. I think I'll try playing with it a bit more, but I'm starting to think that my body just doesn't respond well to carbs early in the day. Lunch and dinner it doesn't seem to matter, but for some reason I have to be super careful for breakfast.... Thanks for the help.
451075 tn?1210258648 Yes, it's totally safe. I have used low-carb diet for long time. I eat alot of protein (all meat and fish (as long as it is fresh and un-contamintated), cheeses and eggs). It's known now that eggs do not have this bad influence on cholesterol as thought before. It's also known that fat doesn't make you fat. So, I never look at calories, I only look at carbohydrates. Besides the protein I eat alot of vegetable (except high carb veggies like carrots, borccoly etc).
Avatar n tn I have recently been switched to Lantus & Humalog and I have some questions. I take it in the morning. If I awake with an abnormal blood sugar (too high) I assume I would take a small dose of fast acting. Would I also take a small dose of fast acting if my blood sugar is normal, as to cover my breakfast? I know to count the carbs before the lunch meal and the dinner meal, but didn't ask about the breakfast meal.
Avatar n tn I cut his bolus amount by 25% and meal units by 50%. During the day he would start feeling low at meal times. The rest of the time his BG levels were near perfect. It took him just a few camping trips before he had the epiphany that more physical activity meant less insulin and much better BG control.
Avatar n tn Take your shots (fast-acting 10 minutes before you have your breakfast, then try and test 2 hours after you’ve eaten your first bite of food. Do this before and after each meal and again before bedtime. Also if you feel weird: TEST. If you are ill, drink lots of liquids(preferably sugar-less or low sugar drinks) and TEST often, especially if you have a fever. 3rd. If you don’t know how to count carbohydrates then learn it from your Dietician(get a referral from your Dr.
1290943 tn?1272093764 I am able to eat one slice of good bread for toast. You can also find lower carb breads. Eggs are about the best for the morning as for many of us it is the time we can eat the least carbs. Has she figured out her insulin:carb ratios? Mine are definitely lower in the morning (mine are 1:7, 1:9 and 1:18). Btw this is the Type 2 forum!
Avatar n tn I have tried many protein bars, but all of which contain HIGH ammounts of sugar. so thats out of the question now. Do u know of any meal replacement bars or protein bars, that arent loaded with sugar?
Avatar f tn Doses of INCIVEK were administered within 30 minutes of completing a meal or snack containing approximately 20 grams of fat in the Phase 3 trials. Therefore, INCIVEK should always be taken with food (not low fat).
Business woman2 I have had good results by tight carb control. Experts recommend 45-65 grams of carb per meal. My doctor insists her patients eat only 30-45 gms. per meal. I tightened that down even more and try for less than 30 per meal and only eat breakfast and dinner. No snacks; although you can have them if they are 10 or less grams. I have lost 30 pounds since starting in June and my fasting blood sugars went from over 190 to being 129 or less. Most mornings, I get a reading of 115-118.
