Avatar m tn To help answer your question, your first step is to understand the Glycemic Index (GI) of foods. By understanding the GI it will help you get better control of your diabetes. Go to this FAQ page for an explanation of GI, then click the button "Compare your diet" for chart comparisons of various types of foods. http://www.lowglycemicdiet.com/lowglycemicdietfaqs.html Other related GI links http://tinyurl.
Avatar f tn Rice is not really good for a diet, because it's very starchy (simple carb) and affects blood sugar very quickly. If you can switch to brown rice, which is whole grain, that would be much better.
Avatar f tn Basmati rice is 1 cup rice to 1 and 1/2 cup water. Jasmine rice is 1 cup rice to 1 and 1/4 cup water. Hope that helps.
Avatar f tn Always opt for brown rice, and that includes brown aromatic varieties like basmati and jasmine. Get even more exotic with red and black rice, both of which are considered whole grains and are high in antioxidants.
Avatar m tn But I decided to forgo my beloved jasmine rice for some brown rice. And, the brown rice was not the same, so I decided I would rather not have it at all. Like the dr suggested quinoa is rather delicious, I love this stuff. I don't have it very often. I do eat rice occasionally, maybe only a few times a month, but I have cut the portion size in half of what i used to eat before.
Avatar f tn If you have the rice bags, heat them up and add a drop or two of jasmine essential oil. It will help to relieve pain and reduce stress.
Avatar f tn We had chicken and garlic sautéd with butter and olive oil and lemon pepper -jasmine rice, salad, steamed broccoli and cauliflower.
Avatar m tn The nutritionist said to try to stay around 45g of carbs for each meal and 15-20g for snacks depending on how many you eat each day. I eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. Good luck!
Avatar n tn -) Rice in soups or casseroles-high carb. Pasta-high carb. Potatoes-high carb. Bread-high carb. Regular soda pop and fruit juices-high carb. Sugar is interesting-you can have your sugar and eat it too. If your dr tells you to eat less sugar you need to fire right back at him and say, don't you mean carbs? Do you know of anyone who sits and eats a cup of sugar? No. But I bet we have all eaten a cup of potatoes rice or pasta or bread....
Avatar f tn I saw someone do this yesterday and thought it was fun, so I thought I'd do it today! What's everyone having for dinner tonight? I'm making shredded chicken in gravy over rice with biscuits.
Avatar f tn To manage blood sugars you need medication (probably insulin) combined with low carb diet and exercise. Do not eat sweets, breads, rice, candies, fruit, fruit juice when your sugars are so high. If you are feeling very bad or if the sugars do not go down to the 100s within a few hours please go to the ER for immediate treatment. IN any case contact your doctor asap.
Avatar m tn High carb diet, such as one that consists of a lot of rice is not good. Rice is a simple carb that breaks down quickly into sugar in your body and if not used right away for energy will goes straight into fat cells to be stored for later use. This is what causes us to gain weight. Heart palpitations can be caused by other things; just eating rice will not cause your thyroid to switch to hyper... in fact, heart palpitations are often present in those of us who are hypo.
362249 tn?1441315018 CARBS and sugars are the same as the above poster said. However, keeping away from the "sugars" is better for you...Count the carbs but check the sugars also...look at it this way...it is the sugar that goes straight to your hips...carbs are necessary, but it small quantities....also check fiber...the higher the better! it almost like "offsets" the carbs.
Avatar f tn I have a type 1 diabetic daughter she is 7 yrs old and we count carbs. She gets so many units of insulin for how many carbs she eats plus so many units for how much her numbers are above what the doc wants. That doc sounded like a real jerk. My grandma is a type 2 diabetic as well and has many problems with high numbers and we just found out that she is in begining stages of kidney failure. So its deffinantly important not to give up.
Avatar f tn i am 47 and i work out constantly i only drinkwater with lemon in it, count my calories, watch everything i eat and i cant lose weight. what can i take or do to help me lose weight fast?
Avatar f tn I usually do at lunch or dinner. I also buy the fruit cups that are sugar free for a "free snack" when I'm craving some fruit. It's my understanding you can subsitute some high fiber grams for carb grams, but I'm unsure how to do the calculations so I don't bother. If you like bread Nature's own has some low cal, low carb whole wheat with fiber, white and honey wheat bread.
793908 tn?1294705109 Though their ingredients are top of the line, some of their varieties have a higher carb count or higher protein count than others, so pull it up on line and read the carb count and protein count for each one. "Embark" is their highest protein, so forget that one.
Avatar f tn Thank you both for your reply. This information will certainly get me on the track to where I need to be. I have tried other websites that offer food, exercise, and other trackers, but none offered me the guidance that I needed. I am so glad that I found this website!!
Avatar f tn And there is a carb count you should be following for meal and snack times. I got all my information from a registered dietician; I also have my bachelor's in nutrition. I Knew before hand that there was a carb count just couldn't remember the numbers. The suggest for breakfast and snack time to stay between 15 and 30 grams of carbs. Lunch and dinner no more than 45 grams of carbs.
Avatar f tn At this time when I eat very little sugar, or higher carb cakes (I live gluten free life, but flours like white rice flour has high carbs, that I coud not avoid yet, but I'm working on it). So when I eat a self-baked gluten free biscuit with higher carb flours, I get this strange vibration. Like an earthquake inside me. What do you think, can this be a withdrawal symptom of sugar? I hope so, and just hope that it will go away when my body will adjust.
193609 tn?1292180293 ve never been into the whole low carb craze and always knew it would be a way of life I would never be able to stick with for the rest of my life. Personally, I have anywhere in the mid to late 100's and sometimes even well into the low 200g carbs a day and have for the last year and a half and yet I've lost 165 lbs. I lost my weight by exercising and counting calories. Losing weight is really just a simple math equation and comes down to calories in vs calories out.
Avatar m tn That seems to make sense, but from what I’ve found on multiple Web sites, Uncle Ben’s Original Parboiled rice has a much lower Glycemic Load than brown rice (14 vs. 18). Uncle Ben’s Original Parboiled rice is White Rice. Also, from what I’ve read on multiple sites, pumpernickel bread has a lower Glycemic Load count than whole grain breads (5 vs. 9). Pumpernickel is not a “whole grain” bread.
Avatar m tn If you trade the simple carbs (white sugar, flour, rice, pasta, etc) for complex carbs, you will accomplish the same thing. Complex carbs (fiber - fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc) help make you feel fuller faster and keep you feeling fuller longer, as does protein. With the proper food, there should be no depression due to lack of tryptophan or anything else. Your body needs all of the different food groups, including carbs, so best not to try to eliminate any of them.
Avatar f tn My advice is to try to get a variety of food throughout the day... My carb numbers are 15g - 30g breakfast (it is hard for your body to deal with carbs in the morning so you may want to go lower until you know how much you can take) 30g - 40g for both lunch and dinner... Eat lots of proteins they will keep you fuller for longer and lots of low carb veggies (broccoli, spinach, stuff like that avoid corn it is high in carbs) Honestly, if she is dictating your whole diet I would question it!!!
Avatar m tn However, your diet could be modified to include less carbs (more focus on veges and some fruits, than sweets and high carb foods such as rice), which will be beneficial for your overall health. If you want to check you can ask your doctor to check hba1c, which is a test that tells you your average blood sugar for the past 3 months. Less than 5.0 is totally normal, 5.7 - 6.5 is prediabetic, > 6.5 is diabetic.
Avatar n tn So all proteins are good, (meat, fish, cheese), and most vegetables are low carb. You can to go calorieking.com for a list of the nutrients in all common foods and packages also list carbs.
Avatar n tn Bulgar, Himalayan red rice, wild rice, Quinoa, ate all supposed to be better than plain white rice. Research shows sourdough to be better than even what bread. But ultimately tough have to try different things and check your blood after every meal and see what causes biggest spikes. Like for me I just can't do potatoes.
