Capillary blood glucose vs venous glucose

Common Questions and Answers about Capillary blood glucose vs venous glucose

glucose

Avatar n tn Hi Kumar, I am not a doctor, therefore I cannot answer your question in any scientific/medical terms. Your best bet would be to check with a doctor or peruse professional medical literature to find more specific explanations. My understanding of insulin resistance is narrowed down to the basic concept, which is that in insulin resistance patients the muscle, fat and liver cells don't use insulin properly causing excess glucose to bulid up in the blood.

Avatar n tn A good way to see if yours is within normal variance is to bring along your meter when you go for a blood draw (from a vein). Within 5-10 minutes of them drawing blood, do your own blood test and save the results. Compare them with what the doc tells you your number was. Your result should be within 15% of the doc's result. What's important here is to know how you feel & how you function when your BG is at different numbers.
Avatar n tn t disappear until after I had eaten. To my surprise the blood glucose level came back as high -- 170. How can it be that I was so hungry but the glucose level was high?
Avatar m tn t matter whether they call it non fasting or fasting glucose test result. You know you were fasting and the numbers are what your blood glucose was on those two tests. And they are slightly elevates and fall within the range of impaired fasting glucose. I think you should closely monitor your lab values and you might want to invest in a glucometer to test your blood yourself. The cost is often covered in whole or in part by the insurance company with a doctor's prescription.
Avatar f tn jsp My suggestion is low or no sugar and stay away from bad carbs for the latter will jack up his glucose levels. For a list of good carbs vs bad carbs go here http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art6628.
Avatar n tn My fasting glucose results (Glucose Plasma-Hexokinase), three in last three months have been in the range of 108-120 mg/dL (normal range 70 - 100). In my last test I also got the HbA1c checked, it is: High Performance Liquid Chromatography-HPCL = 5.5 % (normal range 4.27 -6.07) The question is that fasting glocose test is indicating high glucose level but HbA1c in reasonably below the max. value. Which one is to be relied upon? Shall I be concerned at these glucose levels? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn I would say that there could be a relation yes, at least theoretically, but an endocrinologist would be able to answer this question correctly.
194838 tn?1303428544 I do not test my own blood but am sent to the hospital for fairly regular tests but notice that when people post with their blood glucose levels they are in the 100s. I am from the UK and wonder if there is a conversion chart because I think it would be more beneficial if I could compare with others on the forum to get a sense of how im doing for comparison, Any advise would be greatly appreciated .
Avatar n tn To sum up, I had never had a fasting blood glucose, have diabetes in my family, so decided to get a home monitor, see where I stood (given I am still in my 20's but not in good shape - getting there, exercising now, but wanted a baseline). So I hadn't been getting goog night sleep due to work, but checked it a few times in a week (in morning, after a 10-14 hour fast fort those morning tests) and generally got 103, 104 for most. Mornings.
Avatar f tn Have high levels of blood and protein in urine. Glucose levels and blood pressure are fine. I'm about 41 female About a 10 days ago I was surprised when I went to the restroom and noticed I had red bloody urine. At that time I had no pain only the urge to go to the restroom more so but no other symptoms.

Avatar n tn It now uses ultrasound technology to expose capillary blood vessels to measure blood-sugar levels. But in future versions, the device will scrape off the outermost layer of skin. Other companies have failed in efforts to market alternatives to needles for diabetics. In 2001, Cygnus Inc. won FDA approval for its GlucoWatch, a blood-sugar meter that could be worn like a wristwatch.
Avatar f tn I am confused as to what microvascular angina and insulin resistance have to do with each other. I am pre-diabetic, 35 lbs overweight, 50 yo female. If I can get my blood sugar down, will I see an improvement in chest pain???
Avatar f tn Hello, I've never been concerned about diabetes before as my fasting blood glucose levels have always been under 100. However, my last fasting glucose test as well as my husband's were both high (mine 127, his 140). The doctor had us return for A1c tests which were in the normal range (mine 5.6, his 5.5). Based on that, the doctor assumed we had eaten something before the fasting test and said, 'see you in 3 months'. But we didn't eat anything.
Avatar f tn I was thinking about IPL does this get rid of some of the deeper blood vessels or is it just the surface ones? im very confused as to what treatment to have.
514349 tn?1272801633 I have this same thing going on so I feel your pain and am not saying that lightly. Your blood pressure will probably come down as will your glucose numbers. And absolutely, elevated blood pressure may give you a headache. There is something called an exertion headache though. However, that is concerning given your recent blood pressure reading since exertion headaches are caused by an elevated venous pressure in the brain.
Avatar f tn If they treat you as if you have it thered be a much higher risk for c section and a different treatment and an increase in the number of visits you have vs someone who might actually need those visits. Are there no buses? Do you not have friends to drive you? Family? A lot of wic offices have women that drive pregnant women to appointments. Have you considered that?
Avatar n tn The severity of both depends on how well the patient controls their blood sugar levels after diagnosis. The type 1 diabetic has a more damaged pancreas than the type 2 diabetic person, but both are equally responsible for controlling their glucose levels, and how well they do that is what ends up defining their overall health. If either one lets glucose levels run high, then complications such as kidney damage or eye damage or nerve damage can happen.
Avatar f tn These tests aren't really accurate. I had a full meal with a mango smoothy from panera bread amd my test was still negative from my hour test. I wouldn't be alarmed unless after you take the drink you start shaking or feel really weird like pass out weird than you're most likely OK. Ask what your blood sugar measured when you failed vs how its supposed to be and also request to measure your own blood sugar at home if you really think they're wrong.
