Avatar f tn When present, this gene variant increases the risk of lung cancer, especially the risk for small cell lung cancer. Your mother may or may not have this gene variant but that doesn’t mean that you have it. And, if you do have it, the increased risk, in no way, means that you will get lung cancer, small cell or other, especially now that you have quit smoking. The role of lung cancer screening tests is still not clear.
Avatar f tn However, in this case, there is no mass in the lung at all, only something in the bone. It would be pretty unlikely for cancer in the lung to present in this manner. The question would be if the finding in the bone appears malignant. If this was the case, it would likely have been discussed with you. An abnormal bone island or cyst is not cancer, but due to its presence, it may produce pain. Discuss the nature of the shoulder finding with the doctor and make a plan as to what's next.
Avatar n tn m dealing with both breast and lung, but especially the effect it will all have on my fibromyalgia, and how it will make my disabilities even worse (driving, personal care, etc)
Avatar n tn Is this really lung cancer meaning the lung is the primary site? Or is this a secondary lung cancer and the goal is to remove metastatic deposits in the lung?
Avatar f tn Could this be thyroid cancer that metastisized to lung or lung cancer that met to the thyroid or just 2 primary cancers. Dr.s are a little stumped. I was seen at Uof Penn They said lung surgery first then deal with thyroid.
Avatar m tn While the risk of developing lung cancer at the age of 41 is small, that risk is real. And, for early detection and peace of mind, you should definitely have a chest X-ray now and, assuming that you will be able to stick with the decision to engage in smoking cessation and never smoke again, it would be prudent for you to have a chest X-ray on an annual basis over the next 3-5 years.
Avatar m tn Thanks doc for the reassurance. FY, there are over 50 studies so far. You can check hear to see overviews: http://www.smokershistory.com/hpvlungc.htm, It's a terrible site but he does mange to showcase all HPV and lung cancer studies. I see most of the are for HPV 16, 18 and only a few for 6,11 in non smokers.

Avatar n tn I so agree that you wanting to donate a lung to your aunt is very brave and makes you a truly caring person. You must love your dear Aunt very much. I wish I had good news about you donating your Aunt one of your lungs. My Mother received a single lung transplant in 2007. A lung cannot be taken from a live donor though. The lung has to be harvested from a very recently deceased donor. And I so hate telling you this, but getting approved for a lung transplant is lengthy and much is involved.
Avatar n tn So i went to the doctor and the docctor took blood check up, and checked lungs with sethescope and heart ECG and told u r normal. And i also went to lung specialist and told and he saw the report which was given by doctor and said ok and also took lung capacity test, But the lung capacity test was not normal according to the nurse there, but doctor said its not abnormal and no need to worry. I am still afraid. Any suggestions please?
Avatar f tn My Mom was diagnosed on Dec 23, 2008 with Stage III B lung cancer after 4 months of doctors visits thinking her heart was her main concern when in Nov a cat scan found a lung mass and in Dec a biopsy identified lung cancer. She is a fighter and opted for radiation and chemo. She has tolerated two weeks of treatment well except for the extreme fatigue and not wanting to eat.
Avatar m tn I am getting scared when I read about the link between TB and lung cancer and to make that worse I have HSV-1 on top of that. I read somewhere that HSV-1 affects lungs for immunocompromised people like who have HIV. Do the people who were treated for TB come under immunocompromised categoty? If my immune system is so weak then why didn't HSV-1 show any symptoms to me? I was under the impression that my immune system is strong because I never had any HSV-1 symptoms.
Avatar n tn Increased density in a chest xray usually presents with white, or increased whiteness of the lung fields. This may suggest lung disease, not necessarily cancer and may need to be evaluated further. Ideally, x-ray results are compared from any previous chest x-rays to help monitor any changes in the lung. A repeat x-ray after a few weeks will help determine any changes. Hope this helps. Take care and hope all is well. Do keep us posted and best regards.
1511858 tn?1290477459 My grandmother had lymphoma and my grandfather died of lung cancer....just trying to keep my sanity while I wait for results....sometimes not knowing can be worse then having the facts....
Avatar m tn m having a follow up xray mid July to ensure that the pneumonia has run its course - which it already has, although I still have diminished lung strength and occasional coughing (phlegm tastes utterly toxic at times - rancid). Now I have had electrical type impulses in my right lung.  Not sore, not unfortable...just a vibration like you would feel on a speaker.
Avatar n tn Hello, Since your father is having a history of lung cancer and lobectomy and now shortness of breath, he should get a repeat CT scan done to rule out any fresh malignant infilteration and if the doctor advises he should go in for chemo or radiotherapy. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn He said that and I about fell off the chair. Could the pain be related to lung cancer? Breathing never laboured, no coughing up blood. Though I am tired all the time and have gained a little weight over the past year...
Avatar f tn My mom in law recently was diagnosed with lung cancer that had spread to her liver. she has recieved one cycle of chemo like 8 days ago. she is not eating hardly anything. we are giving her boosts, ensure things of that nature. this morning my husband noticed she had brown stuff coming from her nose and mouth. an ambulance was called and they rushed her to the hospital. she talks gibberish the last couple of days. she was home.

4461995 tn?1357955108 During the treatment, there are various side effects of chemo and radiotherapy, low immunity and hence secondary bacterial and fungal infections, low emotional well being, fear, guilt, etc. The patient needs all the support she needs in form of help at home, looking after her food, medication, attending to her when she is vomiting or generally too low to look after herself, doing her shopping, taking her to hospital etc.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? What are the symptoms present? PTB or Pulmonary Tuberculosis is caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis and can be easily transmitted through droplet infection such as coughing or sneezing by an infected person. If the finding was undetermined activity, it is best that additional diagnostic tests such as sputum test or culture be done for definite diagnosis.
Avatar m tn Though frequent radiation exposure may be lead to radiation sickness but it has some limitations on the amount of radiation you have been exposed to in a given time. The standards are as following- 1.In radiation terminology, rad is a unit of absorbed dose and a rem is a unit of any radiation dose to body tissue in terms to its biological effect.Roentgen(R) refers to amount of radiation dose delivered to the body. 2.Routine chest X-rays delivers 0.1-0.2 rem per exposure and final limitation is 1.
Avatar n tn We asked about radiation/chemo/surgery and she said this was not a option. But I read on here about others who had Lung cancer that went to the Adrenal Gland and brain etc. and they had surgery or radiation? Also do you know of a Doctor up here near Buffalo New York other than Roswell Hospital that we could go for a second opinion.? Thanks for your help!
Avatar f tn has anyone had this operation where they remove part of your lung and what condition are you in after procedure. im scared of possibly dying is it possible radiation might also help. I would like honest answers about this type of operation. it is a thoracic surgeon whom I haven't seen yet.
Avatar n tn If the paralysis is on the left, the infiltrative lesion described on the left measuring 11-12 mm may have something to do with it, but it seems too small to be causing compression. Generally lung cancer with vocal paralysis are pretty large, a good number would have compression of the trachea/windpipe. The distribution of the lymph nodes also makes Lung cancer as a primary disease a bit unlikely, if we are to think about Cancer, perhaps lymphoma may be more suspect.
