Common Questions and Answers about Can you use chantix and the patch

chantix

393419 tn?1228447393 I was a 22 year smoker, and what worked best for me was the patch. It completely took all the edge off. I tried it all- even prescriptions, and the patch worked the best for me. I've been smoke free for 6 months and it feels so good to just not think about cigarettes any more.
Avatar f tn I ended up stopping the Chantix and am trying to quit using the patch and sucking on tons of lolli pops
407029 tn?1253992623 If I could, I we be a walking advertisement for Chantix. I had tried the patch, the gum, zyban and hypnosis in the past and got absolutely no where. Chantix is a wonder drug as far as I'm concerned. To me the benefits of Chantix far out way any of the risks.
Avatar m tn I started walking and running, lifting weights and doing a lot of hiking and that made me want to stop. Plus, if you quit and then you smoke again you feel so guilty that it's not even worth it. If I were you I would stock up on a lot of gum with sugar and a lot of carrots. Drink plenty of water and exercise. If all else fails then get one of those nicotene inhalers or if you have the funds available to you go see a hypnotist. P.S.
Avatar m tn just curious....how long have you been taking Chantix, and can you stop taking Chantix without the need to have either a cigarette or a Chantix 'fix'??
Avatar f tn I would stop smoking immediately if I were you - use a patch if you need to, or ask your doctor for Chantix - it can cause some weird side effects in some people, but it can help you quit. Use an expectorant like Mucinex in case this is something in the airways - it will help clean it out, and use some Advil for a while. After a month or so you will be totally better!
Avatar f tn Thank GOD they were both healthy babies. But now, after having a few miscarriages and knowing that nicotine can contribute, I would just NEVER consider it again. So, maybe that is something that you need to think about. That it can cause a miscarriage. Are you prepared to handle that? I wish you luck. I know that quitting smoking is one of the hardest things ever. The things they put in cigarettes these days is sickening...and it's just for this reason...so that NOBODY can quit.
Avatar f tn advised me to stop using them at once, since that time almost daily i will start itching all over and scratching causes me to have welts where ever i have scratched i have been taking 2 byendryl caps a day to stop the constant itching and i am wondering if i have developed some kind of allergy to nicotine, i still smoke but way less than before but i have had some depression due to the illness and then loss of my job and a failed relationship so the Dr.
1052851 tn?1307741160 Whyquit supports a cold turkey quit and you can even join with them but even if you decide to use an aid you can read the articles there. Make sure you have a good support system when you are ready! Good luck!
874521 tn?1424116797 post_id=post_4517392 Make sure you research the alternatives. The patch seems to be the #1 choice but the best way is probably cold turkey. There is a wonderful website, whyquit.com that will help you get through some rough times. The site supports a cold turkey quit, but you can read all of the articles which are very helpful : ) Everyone here on the forum are at different stages of their quit and can give you their own perspectives ; ) I already gave you mine and I stand by it.
Avatar m tn You can OD. However, it's sort of funny how no one's warned that they might OD while chain smoking. I have friends who use more than the recommended doses of NRT. One friend wears three patches, still one year later. Obviously, he is now addicted to the patches. That may be one problem of overusing NRT. I used NRT to quit and I don't at all regret it. However, NRT can become addictive and, therefore, those of us who use it should have an exit plan.
393685 tn?1425812522 I stopped both and the numbness and tingles stopped. Now I am smoking and taking the Levo and no tingles (guess Chantix is not good for thyroid huh - they should say that on the box!!!) Smoking for about way too long, I think like 12 years. Lots of Diet Dr. Pepper too. working on those....... this is interesting would like to see what you find on smoking and thyroid!
Avatar f tn Given your other problems you might want to try the patch. If you can, cold turkey is probably the best way. The physical withdrawals only last 3 days. Read the articles at whyquitdotcom under Joel's library. Make sure you surround yourself with positive minded people and tell them that you are quitting so this way they will watch and make sure that you do. You can do this! I promise you that it is do-able.......
444932 tn?1273980797 Sorry to hear that you had to quit the chantix. I guess I was one of the lucky ones! There are no quick fixes and even though chantix made it easier, there were still withdrawals and cravings. If you have had success using the patch then you really should try that again, read whyquit.com and post to the board when you are feeling vulnerable. Good luck!
385161 tn?1270081218 I use it during the week and remove on weekends. On weekends I smoke and then put the patch back on and start a smokefree week again. This has happened 2x already and i am going on my 3rd shot. Does anyone know if this is even safe to do. Smoke on saturday and sunday and then use a patch mon-fri? I am on the lowest dose of the patch and obviously having trouble kicking my habit still.
Avatar f tn Hey Deb, Hmm...it sounds like your husband is not ready to stop smoking At All. He is the one that has to be at his "wits end" with smoking, not you. I mean, I know you are and I feel your frustration, but quitting for someone else or because someone else wants you to will never ever work. He is the one that has to want to and he is the one that needs to investigate the patch.
950277 tn?1247274551 many different ones that really speak to you and make you wonder why the heck you ever started. We even have a free patch program! Pick up the phone and tell them you have a problem and they give you a choice of patch, gum or losenges. All in all, with determination, education and a failing body, that's really all it takes to have a successful quit.
Avatar f tn I still get the nicotine and the sensation of smoking but am slowly breaking the habit and lowering the amount of nicotine. I'm hoping that I will be smoke free in a couple of weeks! Best of luck!
540521 tn?1221699706 I will check with my Doctor and see if i can get a prescription for Chantix. Thank You for the information. I received some news the other day that my best friends father has cancer and he is not a smoker, second hand smoke is worse and he is only 62 years old. Hearing that news was hard for me because he is like a 2nd father to me and i know now that i NEED to stop smoking, for me and my children. I am very proud of you for quitting, You are very strong.. Thanks again for all the info..
444932 tn?1273980797 I hope dropping the mgs will do the trick and you can continue with the Chantix without being so physically miserable. Since you already work there, at least you were at a hospital when you had your attack! How convenient is that? Hoping today is better for you : ) Was going to correct Kathyjo on your name, but maybe you did it on purpose and I don't want to assume. I suspect though, you were just feeling awful and wanted to hurry up and lay down. Kathyjo.....
147426 tn?1317265632 There is a side effect of nightmares but they will pass as you get used to the patch. I only used the 2nd and 3rd step because the 1st one was too strong and gave me major headaches. My hubby's insurance covered these patches and my dr. gave me an Rx for them as she said she would rather see me on the patch than smoking two packs a day so I was on the patch for about 4 months and then I just stopped using them after weaning to the weakest patch for about 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn I know that CT is the way to go but I also know that some will feel so overwhelmed without aid and so I recommend the patch as an Nic aide and Chantix as a non-Nic aide.
Avatar f tn My suggestion to you is try stopping the chantix and see how you feel. Then you could resume taking it if you feel the withdrawals and cravings come back really strong? Might want to ask a Doctor on that one just to be sure. As far as I know the headaches are part of the withdrawal and I have a bad one right now.
334876 tn?1229979296 My hubby tried the Chantix and he quit for a while but then started up with the habit cigarettes...you know, the ones that you don't really want but smoke out of habit? I believe that once he did that the Chantix stopped doing what it's supposed to and the habit takes over. Before you know it you are back where you started at the beginning again and that is very frustrating and expensive! I personally don't believe in a stop smoking aid unless you STOP smoking.
Avatar f tn I just quit after over 40 years. I am amazed that I did it. I havent smoked in 6 weeks and 2 days and I'm doing a suboxone taper at the same time. I used the patch (2 not 1) and I sucked on the lozenges. When I got the urge I just said I know it will go with momentarily and it did. I started smoking at 13, quit for 7 years from 40 to 47, smoked til now (60 years old). Every cold was turning into bronchitis or pneumonia. I just had it. Now if I cdan only be so lucky with the opiate LOL.
Avatar f tn You can put the patch nearly anywhere, so it's easily hidden. There is just to much temptation when your brain is in vacation mode. Talk to the doctor, but don't cut out or hasten any steps. You will be smoke free by May 12, but you don't have to be patch free ; ) Even with the pills you run a risk, but with both, the chances are great : ) Hang in there friends. We all deserve a healthier life.
380558 tn?1309042387 Yes, good luck to you Alli and congrats on taking that first step with the nicotine patch! You can do this because if I can, you can! I am also a long time smoker of 34yrs and had never quit before last July. You are relatively young at 32 so please don't let another 15yrs go by and be FORCED to quit because of nicotine related physical problems. Try to keep in mind all the poisens you're inhaling......look on "whyquit.
