Can you take toprol xl twice a day

Common Questions and Answers about Can you take toprol xl twice a day

toprol

Avatar n tn I take the toprol xl and I use the generic and it cost me roughly $20 and I take 125mg twice a day. but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. They both work in two different ways so they can not be interchanged at the same dose. I asked this question before toprol xl became a generic.
Avatar m tn can you remember to take it twice a day...at the proper time? If so, then you can ask your doctor for the chance to try it.
Avatar m tn Toprol XL is designed to release over a 24 hour time period...so instead of taking immediate release metoprolol twice a day one can take the same dosage once/day. Literature states one to two weeks of continuous treatment before results can be expected. I've been on it for over a year (150mg/day, divided dose)) with no apparent side effects...
Avatar f tn My EP took me off sotalol-160mg and put me on toprol XL 25mg twice a day in August. The reason for my change in meds was that I had an ablation in January for a-fib and a-flutter and I haven't had any episodes. In February if I stay episode free I go down to 25mg of toprol a day. I do not feel any difference between the sotalol and the toprol.
Avatar f tn Toprol XL also comes in 25 mg and those can even be split to a 12.5 dosage. I take 37.5 twice a day (one and half pills each dose). I started on 12.5 (half pill) a day and increased slowly until I got to 25 twice a day. I am taking it for sinus tach following open heart surgery. It gets my rate to about 95. I can not take a high dose due to low blood pressure and risk of heart block. I began having frequent PVCs and my docs increased the dose to 37.5 twice a day and it did seems to help.
Avatar m tn Oilurt, do you have a pacemaker with defibrillator, or just the defibrillator? The reason I'm curious is that people that have demand pacemakers will have their heart rate maintained at a certain point if their heart rate drops too low. Taking too much of a Beta Blocker can drop your heart rate, with a demand pacemaker, it would be assured to be maintained at a certain rate.
Avatar f tn I have a real weariness and I have associated it mainly with my Toprol XL - taking 100/50 mg daily, planning to drop to 50 mg twice a day. I was taking Rhythmol 425 twice a day, now once a day and may stop altogether as my AFib "rages" on. How's the Flecainide, is that for AFib? My EP suggested I may want to try Flecainide, and I haven't made up my mind yet on trying new drugs. He has a few others that require hospitalization for their introduction.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if you are uneasy about taking digoxin. If so, I would ask you cardio if you can get by with just the TOPROL XL. Digoxin, xanax, toprol xl, and lisinoprol seems like a lot of stuff to be taking. I am a runner and only take TOPROL XL 12.5mg. This knocks out my extra beats and really slows my heart down. A little seems to go a long way for me.
Avatar n tn this is just a comment. I have been treated for depression and anxiety since 1996. I take Effexor XR 75mg and Remeron 30 mg. I have been on this combination for 6+ years and doing pretty well with them. In May 2008 I was started on Toprol XL 25 mg. It worked for my blood pressure and lowered it but it also made my depression worse and I finally went to my doctor to get off of them. I am now weaning off of the Toprol XL. I am on the second day of 12.
Avatar n tn The operation was totally successful and I was prescribed 25 mg of Toprol XL to be taken twice daily. My local cardiologist (who has been treating me for the past 20 years) says my heart muscle has shrunk back towards normal size and that I'm "doing so well" I should cut my Toprol XL dosage by 50%. Do you concur? Would this reduced dosage have any negative impact whatsoever on the mean-time-to-failure of the replacement valve? Thank you very much. CCF is simply the BEST!
Avatar f tn I suggest you call the doctor or pharmacist. You are on a very low dose. I take 50mg of Toprol XL twice daily and that does not totally keep the SVT under control. It's possible you are not taking enough.
Avatar n tn 25 mg of Toprol XL is a VERY small dose. I know plenty of patients at the hospital I work at, that take well into the 100mg + beta blocker regimen. I would imagine if you had any side effects, they would be minor. Beta blockers are safer than the anti-arrhythmic drugs that are sometimes used for pvc's. Toprol XL will lower your heart rate and blood pressure and the sensation of your heart beating. However, it is unlikely to solve your pvc issues.
Avatar n tn I have had 8 er visits in 2 years for afib. I take toprol 25 mg XL twice a day and a baby aspirin. Once I was cardioverted, once treated with amiodorone (in France), and the remaining times converted with toprol/or digoxin. All other cardiac exams are normal. Due to the frequency of re-occurence of a fib, the MD is thinking of Sotolol but because of the risk of v-fib. I am holding off. Is this side effect a common occurence? I am tired all the time. Could that be from the a-fib or the toprol?
Avatar n tn I have had atrial flutter for the past 8 years, and have been taking up to 100mg of Flecanide twice a day. I also take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL. I was recently diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy (numbness and tingling or burning) in the hands and mostly the feet. I have read that some people who take Flecanide have contracted Perepheral Neuropathy. Is this typical of all AF drugs. I am in Mexico, and a local doctor suggested that I switch to a drug called RYTHMOL.
Avatar f tn Yes you can find online a few web sites , that will tell you this ! look under side effects of toprol xl - you can find it by reading (problems with toprol xl) it should come up ! a long while ago (years) bbc news reported the u.k medical asso , had found beta blockers caused cholesterol to build up in most people who took it. so they limited the use of beta blockers - they also reported that due to adverse side effects , beta blockers would be in limited useage in the u.k.
Avatar n tn I understand Metoprolol SR and Toprol XL are equivalent, the Metoprolol being the generic, and much lower in cost. I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL. I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest. I have been trying lower dose to see if that reduces the dream problem I have.
Avatar f tn I take a very small bĂȘtes blocker twice a day I take timilol 5mg in morning another 5mg at nite so mines not a lot and not sure if it last all day till next dose but mine is really been low last 2-3 weeks but dr says no worries.
503607 tn?1275671579 If your toprol is is 25 mg tablets, go half way, take one in the morning and 1/2 one (12.4 mg) at night... that's what I'd do to see if it helps without kicking my into fatigue or other unwanted side effects. If you have no bad response, go up to the 25 mg twice a day. No, PLEASE, I am telling you what I'd do in your situation, I am not telling you what you should. do. Probably best to do exactly what your doctor said, go up to 50 mg a day.
343006 tn?1314446471 I then e mailed the makers of toprol xl - and they confirmed toprol xl can cause ringing of the ears as a known side effect. I also checked DIovan and its listed as well - Due to this , I guess the next best thing to do is see my Doctor and complain to get off the medications or switch them. thanks too for info on h.b.p and how it can cause ringing in the ears, when its too high .. I recheck and check my b.p everyday 3 to 4 times daily- when medicatated its down to normal levels.
Avatar f tn Toprol XL is a slow release medication designed to deliver dose over 24 hour time period and it takes a week or so for the blood level to stabilize to achieve effect. It shouldn't make any difference when you take it as long as it is the same time each day. Have you discussed this problem with your doctor..perhaps a lower dosage or try another beta blocker. I take 100 mg/day and don't notice any side effects, but drug response is variable.
Avatar n tn Speed up to 3 months ago after 3 months of taking Bystolic twice a day I had and episode of SVT I went to the ER with 190 BPM they monitored me and said follow up with my doc that following week I did and he changed my meds to Metoprolol 50mg twice a day. Shortly after that maybe a month and a half later I was watching a movie and I started having a weird bout of PVC's after about 25 minutes it led to yet another bout of SVT of 180.
Avatar f tn The problem is that if you do a google search for just about anything, you can find. Almost all my patients are on generic medications including generic toprol xl. There are some medications that have a recognized difference between brand name and generic, and there are some brand name drugs that do not have generics because they were too difficult to produce. The medication will be out of your system in less than 5 days. As far as lasting effects, it is difficult to say.
Avatar f tn Do you take 50mg at once or 25mg twice a day of the Atenolol? Brand name Tenormin is best as the different generics of Atenolol vary somewhat. My mom took Atenolol and then the pharmacy switched generics to the Atenolol brand. This threw her into heart failure and into the hospital. She had to take the brand name Tenormin and then she felt much better until her heart failure advanced. Then, she took Toprol XL which is like Tenormin, but stays at a constant level throughout the day.
Avatar n tn 5 years - the high dose is 200mg top end. for toprol xl - dont know how anyone can take it at that dose ! Doctors give a beta blocker for palpatations in most cases. however some give ccb's like verapamil as they too can control palps. I myself am doing a study on palpaitions - causes and how to control them. and or stop them totaly! with or without medications. I think it would be wise, if your b.
Avatar m tn I have gone to the emergency room once and called 911 also, thinking it might be my heart. But my EKG is fine. I take Lipitor (10mg once a day), Toprol (50 mg twice a day), HCTZ (25mg once a day), and Wellbutrin XL (150 mg once a day). I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. My cholesterol is under control but my blood pressure sometimes spikes. I just having been feeling like myself and I'm getting worried that something's going on that is hidden.
116881 tn?1189755823 just get pro active and make an appt. today if you can w. a good heart doc to start a plan of action here. It could have been a one time random episode that happened to you because you may have been doing what i was .....burning the candle at both ends tossing stress into the situation.
