Can you cut imitrex in half

Common Questions and Answers about Can you cut imitrex in half

imitrex

Avatar m tn Imitrex ALSO comes in a nasal spray and an injection. The imitrex tablet should work in HALF AN HOUR. The imitrex nasal spray can work in 10-20 minutes.... same with the injection pretty much. But, if you ever get a prescription for a triptan that is NOT imitrex, make sure that it is a quick dissolve tablet or a nasal spray... the only two nasal sprays I know of are imitrex and zomig (what I take) and the only quick dissolve tablets I know of are imitrex, zomig and maxalt.
Avatar f tn the best meds for migraines in my opinion are triptans, but you can only get these by prescription and you must get a prescription from a doctor. If you go to the hospital they will probably give you an injection of sumatriptan, which is a type of triptan. Your doctor can prescribe you a quick dissolve tablet or a nasal spray (those are both better than a regular tablet) that you can take at home though... examples are maxalt-MLT, zomig-ZMT, zomig nasal spray, imitrex or imitrex nasal spray.
Avatar f tn I think I've asked this before, but I'm in so much pain right now I can barely take it. Right now, where my pain is, is where I'd pop a perc....actually, I'd have already popped like 4 about 3 hours ago, if it were the pre-w/d me... but seriously my head is pounding, my back is in knots, my head hurts so bad my ears hurt...and this is the exact pain that got me into the mess with painkillers.
Avatar f tn I know it sounds daft but he was told to try and eat a small handful of brazil nuts throughout the day they are a brill form of iron and they did seem to help. Hang in there you are doing really well. I wish you all the best for rest of tx.
351317 tn?1204751871 The 10mg zyrtec is too strong for me so can I cut it in half and take 5mg instead?
Avatar f tn dont try to will it away because that never works. i split all my pills in half. they kick in faster and half usually works if u take right away which gives u more meds later. 15 years suffering weekly.
Avatar f tn I've had some suggestions to cut the pills in half, but I have capsules, not tablets and they cannot be cut in half. What should I do??
Avatar f tn s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn I realize this may sound strange but I was wondering if any of you have a "pill cutter" at home or do you just cut your pill in half with a knife? I am cutting down on the dose of my beta blocker per my Doctor and I was wondering if I have to purchase a pill cutter or can I just cut it with a knife or razor? I am a little anxious because you aren't supposed to "crush or chew" these pills and I'm afraid that if I cut it.......perhaps it will be crumbly.
Avatar f tn And the headaches do go away. But if you want to avoid rebound anxiety (and boy does Xanax give you that) you can do what I did and divide your pill into eights. Yes, eights. I literally cut my dose by 1/8 pill every 6 weeks or so. I barely noticed going off aside from the darned headaches. I had a friend who was on 8 pills a day. Her doofus psych doc told her to go off cold turkey. Bad idea. You can have a psychotic break doing that. She didn't, but got very close.
Avatar f tn If I catch the symptoms early, this can cut the misery by around half and I can generally have a conversation later in the day. What REALLY made a difference, though, was identifying patterns in what triggered them. For me, it is almost always associated with heavy physical exertion after less than normal sleep when I haven’t had enough to drink and eat in the previous half day.
Avatar f tn Complementary and alternative medicine like acupuncture has also been effective in some patients. It is best that you check with your attending physician for proper management. 1059594 tn?1261323966 Isn't Opana Time Released? I know you're the doctor, but I don't think you should inform people to cut their medications in half, ESPECIALLY if they're time released as this could cause a rapid release of all the medication in turn making her more sick, or am I wrong? Avatar n tn 00 for 9 pills yesterday. I get the 100mg. so that I can cut them in half and make eighteen 15 mg. pills. If I am wise and take one as soon as I feel one coming on, I can stop it with one half of the pill. Sometimes it doesn't work and I have to take the other half. That's just one way of stretching them. Also, I have my Dad buy them for me in Mexico where you don't need a prescription and they are about $50.00 for 9 pills. ig_me: I feel you with the Fiorinal.
Avatar n tn Hey there...you cannot cut the dose in half....i would call your doctor and see if he/she can change your meds or if it's ok to stop..Levaquin can be given in 250, 500 & 750 mg doses...I was on Levaquin earlier this year for uti and had horrible side effects, so i just stopped taking the meds...I had horrible heart pounding, swollen knees and it felt as if someone had beaten the crap out of me with a baseball bat...
Avatar f tn Yes its ok to cut it in half. It should have a little place on the pill where to cut it. If you want to be absolutely sure you can always ask your pharmacist.
Avatar f tn but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex. So, Imitrex is not a type of medication that you can become dependent on physically. So please don't worry about becoming dependent on the medication!!! Use it when you are in pain if it works!! Please do not suffer because you are worried about becoming dependent on a medication you have no chances of becoming dependent on.
768044 tn?1294223436 It is important to stop the headaches so that you do not get stuck in a pain cycle. It is much more likely that you are stuck in a pain cycle than a rebound headache cycle right now. I would suggest taking your triptans at the very first sign of the headaches and take them as needed. Do not be afraid to take your triptans! If you are getting more than 15 headaches a month... and 4 headaches a week sounds like more than 15 a month! Then, preventative medications could be an option.
Avatar f tn So, while you need a neurologist willing to prescribe an abortive for when you get migraines, you do need to consider in what ways you can cut back your stress level to try to prevent headaches so you hopefully don't wind up in a similar situation to the one I was in with migraine rebound from imitrex.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the advice. It's good to know i'm not alone. Hopefully you won't mind if i do write to you for support.
Avatar m tn No, they are not going to give you more Imitrex, you hit max dose so, that is the max you can have. The last time I went to the ER for a migraine the only thing they gave me was Toradol in my IV and it did absolutely nothing. They let me go a few hours later and gave me an Rx of Tylenol 3 which did nothing. ERs do not freely give out narcotics because of everyone abusing them so much these days.
Avatar f tn I have severe migraines that I've had on and off since 2012. I've had two concussions one was the result of a car accident where my moon roof cut my head open severely. My most recent concussion was October 4th 2016. I have had a migraine for over a month that I cannot get rid of and severe pain in the right side of my head when I inhale. I am scheduled to see a neurologist but it's a month away and I desperately need relief!!
Avatar f tn Metoprolol 25 mg. Does it make a difference in what I'm taking, wether I can cut in half or not? The PA knows what I am taking and he told me just to cut it.
Avatar m tn I am an 18 year old whose migraines usually rebound with Imitrex therapy. Which of the following is recommended?
518798 tn?1295212279 t need to take it everyday..do you use the shots or pills..I know that you can take no more than 2 shots in a 24 hr period..I will tell you..Imitrex helped me sooo much..and funny thing..when I divorced the a$$ I was married to,my migraines went away..LOL..I'm serious..Now I have maybe 1 a year..but i have noticed that I have already had 2 now since june..I think it's the same cause..
561539 tn?1216438257 I learned my lesson (possible permanent face numbness?) My family doctor told me, when you take two imitrex and you are still in the same amount of pain or more YOU GO TO THE ER. Hard lesson to learn because now I wait until Tuesday to see the specialist in neurology that he recommends to me after seeing that my MRI showed no stroke but I still have half a face that is numb after the migraine. I think the two are unrelated and I have a pinced neck nerve. Just a guess, I truly have no clue.
Avatar m tn Over the counter it seems like there are hundreds of different options but in reality they contain the same handful of drugs in different combinations and/or strengths. From what you said in your post it looks like you have tried them all. My suggestion from personal experience would be to use what gives you the most relief and then give your body a chance to get used to the drug. I often find that mild side effects go away after I take a drug for awhile.
