Avatar n tn I also believe there is a link between that and disturbed sleep (so it can be a bit of a vicious circle) As this is the first time it has happened to you I think you could probably chalk it up to stress and anxiety. If it happens to you again a few more times, mention it to your GP (although to be honest my GP knows nothing about the subject, but you could keep asking until you find someone who does) I'm sorry you're going through a tough time.
Avatar n tn Yes, Kim it can lead to death. Seizures does not sound like being a diabetic. Meaning passing out completely where I had this happen so long ago. Hypoglycemia is having a LOW sugar. That happens when a diabetic has not eaten enough, skipped a meal, taken too much insulin. Even have done too much activity. Are you a diabetic, what type? To avoid a hypoglycemic episode, take your blood sugar before a snack and eat a snack before bedtime.
Avatar f tn Understand your predicament. The symptoms you are experiencing could be due to an entity called sleep paralysis. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnagogic hallucinations and automatic behavior.
Avatar m tn Hi, suffered sleep paralysis for decades now. No voices etc, just paralysis. WHY doesn't the medical world take an interest in this phenomena, which is more common than I think is believed? It is left to the realm of cultural myths, alien abduction theories, generalized medical mumbling about anxiety - the definition of anything they do not understand or think will get them into trouble by not investigating.
Avatar n tn I had a 13 year old black Labrador mix and she had a massage seizure yesterday after talking her to vet we had to have her put down due to more risk.of more seizures which could of led to painful death did I do rite thing?
Avatar n tn You can read anything on the internet so treat that claim with a grain of salt. Up to 40% of people have sleep paralysis and it can be due to some other sleeping issue. You need to talk to a professional who can decide if it is something to analyze or harmless. Everyone dreams every night but most are forgotten so that is not a problem.
Avatar f tn the strength of this command depends on how sure the body is that the mind are sleeping, this depends on how still you lie, if you lie very still the body is almost convinced that the mind is sleeping, and send out a very tiny signal which can easily be ignored by you and result in sleep paralysis with your mind awake, sleep paralysis feels almost like led on top of your body, and can easily be mistaken for someone pushing you against the bed. VERY SCAERY AND UNCOMFTABLE.!!!
Avatar f tn Stress could be either mental or physical and end of day if you are in a run down state it could lead to sleep depravation, so try to relax and have lot of liquids. Alprazolam can be taken before bed time for few days. Do update on your doctor advise. Take care.
806097 tn?1252108673 Chiari can cause also syringomyelia - a blockage of spinal fluid, which can lead to paralysis or nerve damage. However, with all that said. It is at least possible for Chiari to cause death. Chiari is a brain/skull malformation. The brain can be damaged enough to cause death.
Avatar n tn My inability to move, scream for help, open my eyes while asleep are becoming more frequent. I am really concerned because once I finally awaken, my heart rate is very high and I am starting to have panic attacks after awakening. I realize what is happening but can not "pull out" of my sleep. I am afraid to go to sleep at night now and my husband does not sleep well either because he is worried that I am going to have "sleep paralysis" and wants to be able to wake me up.
488264 tn?1226520307 Sudden Adult Death Syndrome has I believe been connected on ocassion to sleep paralysis, maybe from the sheer panic involved and the partial or even complete paralysis of the muscles involved in breathing. I have struggled secretly with this all my adult life, and only recently as it got so much worse brought it to the attention of my doctors. I do believe had I told them about it years ago they would have dismissed me as neurotic or something. WHY is this condition so poorly researched?
Avatar n tn The actual cause of sleep paralysis is not understood. But sleep paralysis can run in families and people who have narcolepsy. Sleep paralysis can be treated with clonazepam, Studies show that vitamin B12 improves sleep patterns but not enough evidence show prevention of sleep paralysis. Reducing stress and getting the proper amount of sleep may be beneficial. Learn to recognize your symptoms and the triggers of your sleep paralysis.
Avatar m tn Your symptoms could be due to sleep paralysis. Disorders related to dreaming could occur with REM sleep behavior disorders. Here the person acts out the dreams. Your symptoms of seeing things could also be due to sleep disorders “Nightmare” or "Night terror" disorders . Here the person experiences symptoms of bad, frightening dreams which interfere with his sleep schedules.
Avatar f tn In addition to the fact that the pillow is too high, which will lead to neck flexion and poor blood flow, sleep on your back is more likely to lead to neck flexion and poor blood flow than sleep on your side. Therefore, sleep on your back is more likely to lead to sleep paralysis than sleep on your side.
1196962 tn?1265111116 Hi, welcome to the forum, sleep paralysis can be a manifestation of type of sleep disorder like parasomnias. Few of the individuals are known to suffer from parasomnias esp. when they are on non-benzodiazepine sedatives, drug abuse etc. otherwise no definitive cause exists in few individuals apart from stress, positive past history of abuse etc. The associated symptoms with the following disorder are confusional wakefulness, sleep paralysis, nightmares and night terrors.
Avatar f tn It might not be so bothersome now but it might be a good idea to have a sleep study. Sleep apnea has links to stroke and heart health and may be relate to weight gain as result of low energy. Just my 2 cents.
573569 tn?1278629655 There are other similar conditions that dont involve paralysis and are more experienced as a difficulty to become fully awake, where as sleep paralysis you are unable to move and think your awake, commonly waking up with high anxiety, which makes one feel alert. Sleep paralysis can also give feelings of impending doom. None the less you are not alone, both are fairly common.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, there is no practical way to decipher between normal REM sleep and sleep paralysis. This is because in normal REM sleep you experience the same paralysis as in sleep paralysis; the only difference is your level of consciousness at the time. So there's no way to develop a sensor that an app could use to address this issue. This also may be of interest to you: I have a service dog whose primary task is medical alert.
Avatar m tn Every now and then I have a problem sleeping usually when I fall asleep during the day on the couch or when I stay home sick. I'm 16 years old and this has happened more than often. When it happens I fall asleep but it feels like I'm still awake. For example I can feel the texture of the couch and I can hear what show is playing on the tv. I sometimes feel a weight sitting on my chest making it hard for me to breathe (especially when I'm sick and have to breathe through my nose).
Avatar n tn Sleep paralysis occurs when you may go to sleep or may tend to wake up from sleep. It is a temporary phenomenon where you are incapable of moving your body or even part of it physically but keep trying to shout loudly or seek someone’s help. It may be lasting for a few seconds to minutes. It can repeat once again if you sleep and there is no physical injury to body, but you will be probably frightened with sweating and increased heart beat with shortness of breath.
Avatar n tn i can see but not hear and i am unable to breathe. i have kind of gotten used to it. sometimes i can wake/start breathing by concentrating hard on exhaling. which leads me to believe that it is connected in my case to the sleep apnea which i have also had for quite a while.
