Avatar m tn Clinical trails of Pravastatin, commonly used to lower cholesterol and decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease, do show an increase in parasympathetic modulation of heart rate. In simple words, Yes it does effect the heart rate to beat faster.
Avatar f tn Yes its ok to cut it in half. It should have a little place on the pill where to cut it. If you want to be absolutely sure you can always ask your pharmacist.
Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
3539331 tn?1347554407 Should I participate in this study even though I am not sure my palpitations have developed in something more serious? I do need the money and I am already on Pravastatin 40mg. I was hoping I would get an appointment with my doctor right away but couldn't. Thanks for reading.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if the medicine Pravastatin (for high cholesterol) can cause your sugar to go up? I had quit taking it for about 2 weeks and my sugar which is usually high came down to 90-120, when I started taking it again my sugar went back up to 180-230.
Avatar f tn Yes, my pill can be split in half. I don't have a pill spliter, so I am wondering if I can use a knife to cut it. I already cut it actually and it split right in half. My pill has a "divit" like a divider already so it cut very easily.
7510956 tn?1411671417 That is crazy!!!! Cut it in half and everybody fails treatment. Sound like more than crazy. Never heard of that before. That's just plan stupid.
Avatar n tn I was on 40mg of Pravastatin and now am on 80mg. Is my doc just being aggressive? Or is there another reason for the big increase? I welcome any speculations.
Avatar n tn I wanted to know if I can cut the pills in half. Would taking 250mg. be as effective? All the symptoms of my uti are gone. I was supposed to take the pills for 7 days and I stopped after 4 because of side effects.
Avatar n tn The pravastatin could be the reason, however which of his liver enzymes are elevated? Let us know and I may be able to help you out.
Avatar m tn Increase fruits and vegetables and limit food high in LDL. If any reduction can be achieved it will go along way to maintaining good health.
Avatar m tn Back in March, I was diagnosed with really high cholesterol (268, with LDL being 192) and I was put on Lipitor. I couldn't take it very long because it made me feel sick so the doctor switched me to Pravastatin. I soon switched doctors because he was making me uncomfortable with the things he was saying and my new doctor did a liver enzyme test. It came back elevated so she took me off of the Pravastatin to see if my enzymes would improve.
1817071 tn?1366228243 The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
Avatar m tn I can't find an interaction between pravastatin and levo, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Levo should be taken on an empty stomach, then nothing to eat or drink except water for 30-60 minutes. There are people who take it at night; however, you do need to make sure there's adequate time for your stomach to empty, between your last meal and taking the med. All other medications should be separated from the levo for a couple hours, if possible.
1059594 tn?1261323966 Isn't Opana Time Released? I know you're the doctor, but I don't think you should inform people to cut their medications in half, ESPECIALLY if they're time released as this could cause a rapid release of all the medication in turn making her more sick, or am I wrong? Avatar f tn I am a 39 year old, female. I was put on Pravastatin about 9 weeks ago as my cholesterol had gone from 190 to 225 from the previous year. I have a family history of heart disease (my father passed away after a second heart attack at 53). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and was placed on Levoxyl (75mg) and my levels have remained normal. I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Welcome and thanks for your question. Statins can cause muscle and joint pain as a side effects. It happens in approx 1 out of every 2,200 users so it's worth mentioning it to your doctor. Keep in mind that muscle and joint pain are the most common medical complaint and a symptom off many conditions so it could very likely not be related to your meds.
Avatar f tn Well, in some people, taking statins seems to lower HDL cholesterol too much. The problem is, statins reduce the manufacturing process of lipids in the Liver and this has the problem of affecting both LDL and HDL. Maybe you should try a different approach, quite similar to what your Doctor is suggesting. Keep away from medication affecting the Liver (Statins) and take medication to reduce fat absorption in the gut.
Avatar f tn Metoprolol 25 mg. Does it make a difference in what I'm taking, wether I can cut in half or not? The PA knows what I am taking and he told me just to cut it.
179856 tn?1333547362 Moreover, they join others in suggesting that the current labeling for pravastatin and other statins that contraindicates their use in liver disease should be reviewed and amended.
Avatar n tn In early September, I was prescribed a statin for the first time, 40 mg of Pravastatin, to be taken at night. After 2 weeks, I started having muscle pain/weakness in my legs but for the first time in my life had very odd heart palpatations after lying down in bed for about 10 minutes when I was first trying to sleep. I stopped taking the Pravastatin after about 1 month.
Avatar n tn It is my understanding that a key ,marker to watch is LDL and that it is desirable to be under 70, with TC < 150. But I don't have a clue as to whether cardiologist prescribes based on that. You might ask.. Maybe I'm fortunate, but after my MI and stents last Sept I went on a strict diet (close to what Dr Esselstyn promotes) and my lipids dropped like a rock to almost half. LDL is under 70. TC is under 120. HDL has always been low, in mid 30s.
