Yes L-lysine really helps me, I disagree it is not a myth, my life was complete hell before it and if I miss a dose I can feel the herpes attacking my immune system. I buy it in powdered form and mix it into a drink as I think this is easier on my body. The tablets were giving me hard stools. I'm also curious about whether it effects my cycle. Maybe it is the stress of herpes on our bodies that is affecting our cycles?
I have read over and over on this forum that taking lysine does not work, but I do not agree. I was diagnosed with both HSV 1 and 2, but at that point I had never had a breakout, so the doctor did not prescribe meds. Not long after being diagnosed, i started getting that tingling feeling above my lip and on my face up to my eye. I started freaking ou . I wanted to be able to take something, ANYTHING, to prevent a breakout, not just sit around and wait for a breakout happen.
What would their outbreak be like? Does Valtrex or Lysine cause yeast? Can too much Lysine cause an outbreak? If 500 mg of Valtrex reduces transmission by 50%, then does 1 mg per day suppressive reduce it more? For 2 or 3 weeks I've felt occasional tingling on my upper lip and in the one spot that is right above my pubic bone. And the past 1 1/2 to 2 weeks I feel like my lymph node on pelvis occasionally flares up. Changed Valtrex to more of an outbreak dosage.
OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
It always worked for me up to this past year when I started to get back to back outbreaks. I now take Valtrex 500 mg. When I first started Valtrex I had 3 consecutive breakouts in three months; since then, I haven't had any OBs. I also have noticed that if I do not drink enough water especially if I'm in the sun, it will trigger an OB.
I was wondering if it would help to also continue taking Lysine along with the Valtrex.

I need a valtrex prescription and the family doctor gave me some without prescription, the doctor asked to do a blood test for hsv type 1 (had around 6 cold sores at the time, valtrex worked wonders). At the time, I coudnt test for hsv because of taking valtrex but now i need a daily dose but i'm taking 1000mg lysine everyday. Will lysine affect the blood test result of hsv type 1? Do i need to stop taking it to test positive?
I then went on 500mg of valtrex and still would get outbreaks. then my dr. put me on 1gram of valtrex daily and I still will get small red bumps that itch like crazy and dont look like blisters, but I'm pretty sure they are herpes related. I take Lysine, zinc, and various other vitamins daily to try to combat the virus. Why is that some people can contract this demon and have minor issues and others like myself have to deal with it on a daily basis.
Now that I am under more stress and fibromyalgia/asthma, I am finding that I have had more outbreaks than I would like! Valtrex does help, but what I would really be interested in is something that is topical like an ointment, oil, etc... that can be applied directly to the genitals in order to relieve the itching/burning, etc...
I have read online about taking supplements re: L-Lysine - but still no ointments.
Not much you can do besides the valtrex. Topical creams and such can make hsv worse. L-Lysine won't do anything for her. If the sores are still tgere get her in and get them swabbed today!!! Like we discussed i don't believe she has hsv2. I believe she has hsv1. The tests were talen to early to get a proper diagnosis.
We had sex the day prior to the outbreak, protected, and I wanted to know if there is shedding prior to an outbreak. Lastly, with the valtrex, if we eventually decide to go without protection, for reproductive purposes, would there still be the same risk of transmission. It says on some sites that condoms are really inefective against herpes transmission.
Second outbreak, lesions were gone with 48 hours as I got to take my valtrex when I got the tingle and used the cream. Third outbreak.....valtrex with the tingle and no lesions.

If you are looking to reduce transmission to partners, the only known ways to reduce that are to use antivirals (Valtrex, acyclovir, famvir) and condoms, along with avoiding sexual activity when you have any symptoms.
If you are looking to reduce outbreaks, studies are mixed for this.

My spouse is negative and we have been together 6 years. I take valtrex, lysine, and olive leaf. I quit the olive leaf for 2 weeks and they came back. I am in the middle of a particularly bad outbreak since April. Heals then comes back. I am wondering if I should take the valtrex daily for awhile and I am going to continue olive leaf. I am just so mad at myself. I check the sores on my buttock and the check down there where I have never had an outbreak.
I am interested in the use of lysine...does that have any results that you know of? If I take the Valtrex with an outbreak, how long am I supposed to stay on it. Would these number of outbreaks cause swollen groin lymph nodes on one side? I had on of them biopsied and it came back large, but benign.

Is there anyway to know if there is one internally? As far as I know I haven't had any outbreaks although I do get some tingling and I've been putting denavir on areas that I know can turn into an outbreak.
I've posted on here before. I was recently diagnosed and when I was diagnosed I only have a small like sore which the doctor swabbed and came back positive. I was prescribed acycolcir and the small sore went away. A week or so after that I figured out I was having an outbreak and so I started taking the medicine and it didn't seen to help so I went in and she gave me Valtrex to take for 5 days and said my vagina looked okay and that one of the blisters looked like it was healing .
Hello, I have oral HSV1 and want to take something daily to help prevent outbreaks and to keep virus at bay. I have a prescription for valtrex, but usually only take when i have an outbreak. Should I take that everyday? Any thoughts on Red Algae or Lysine.. has anyone had success with these? Would anyone recommend to take daily? Also, have been ready about a new light therapy called virulite, anyone heard of this?
