Avatar f tn Most times the hair loss from alopecia can be fixed with the hair folicles being stimulated by cortisone cream for a few weeks. As much as I hate cortisone cream, I used it years ago after a haematoma (blow to the back of the head and blood clot) as my hair just wouldnt stop falling out. Within weeks it had grown back , it grew back short and spikey at first (fuzzy) but then grew back normal. Take Care and I hope your stress levels subside very soon for you.
Avatar n tn There are many conditions that can result in hair loss in male as well as females, such as alopecia areata, scarring alopecia, infections like ringworm, folliculitis, piedra, seborrheic dermatitis and folliculitis. Alopecia areata is a genetic condition which causes sudden round patches on the scalp along with inflammation of the roots of the hair follicles. However, the hair follicles are not destroyed and hair growth continues after inflammation subsides.
Avatar m tn Hello, If the hair loss is in patches can be due to fungal infection and if the hair loss is diffuse then it can be due to alopecia aereta or telogen effluvium. See the growth cycle of hair is in two phases, anagen or grwith phase and telogen or resting phase. During telogen, the resting hair remains in the follicle until it is pushed out by growth of a new anagen hair. In telogen effluvium, a large number of hair enter telogen at one time.
Avatar m tn While stress is a known culprit for hair loss, the loss of hair can also be due to anemia, male pattern of hair loss (due to your age and hormonal and genetic factors) or due to a scalp condition such as dermatitis or dandruff. Sometimes low testosterone too causes hair loss. Hence, these conditions should be ruled out too. If your thinning of hairs is mainly affecting the top of head and the temple area, then probably you have male pattern of baldness.
Avatar n tn Hi, Most people normally shed 50 to 100 hairs a day and this amount of hair loss should not cause noticeable thinning of the scalp hair. Hair thinning and loss could be due to increased rate of shedding compared to the rate of regrowth. This could be due to: hormonal changes, poor nutrition, diseases, certain medications, infections and stress.
495035 tn?1221753092 No, I haven't experienced this, but it's an interesting question. I know that sometimes stress can bring on hair loss. Or at least that's what my friend's doc told her. Chronic illness can certainly add stress. We all can attest to that!! Do I hear an 'Amen?
Avatar n tn I don't think that stress itself would, I've had a lot of stress, I'm 56 and still having periods! But I would think that stress if it leads to weight loss by not eating probably would. It could be related to fat, estrogen binds to fat cells. And yes, I can stand to lose some weight which is easier said than done.
Avatar n tn I have improved symptom-wise except when under stress. However, my Amylase continues to be elevated and I am concerned, as is my doctor, about chronic pancreatitis leading to pancreatic cancer. I do not drink Alcohol and have not for 20 years. Can you offer any ideas for cause of the pancreatic enzyme elevation and treatments?
Avatar n tn Significant hair shedding usually occurs when shampooing, combing, or even when gently manipulating the hair. Shedding usually slowly decreases over 6 to 8 months once the cause for the hair loss is no longer present. As some of the causes represent ongoing problems, it is important to determine the likely cause when possible and take appropriate measures to prevent continued hair loss.
Avatar m tn Hm, I know it must be hard for you, but don't stress out yourself, stress can also be the cause of you losing hair or probably it's genetic. Speak to your doctor about it.
Avatar f tn Even though Hepatitis C can cause many extrahepatic conditions, you can't always assume that Hep C is causing all your symptoms, because other conditions may then go untreated. For example, low thyroid can also cause hair loss. I have heard several hepatologists say that in the presence of both Hep C and Hep B....it is Hep C that takes over and Hep B sometimes hides.
Avatar n tn I have never heard of insulin causing hair loss. A number of other things may though. Hair loss can be related to the stress of an illness for example and would just be temporary. Do you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes? Some diabetes related conditions can cause hair loss like thyroid disease or PCOS. Some medications for high blood pressure may also. I also understand that some folks with a chronic illness may shed hair indefinitely.
Avatar m tn Hi doctor, I have been experiencing hair loss for about 7 years now. It's getting to the point where I will have to shave it all off soon. It's quite noticeable. I have no hair loss in my family at all. None on my mum or dads side. I'm the only one. I have however suffered from bad anxiety (stress) for quite some years now and wondering if this would be the main cause? Is stress making my hair fall out? I'm quite healthy and all my most recent blood tests are all fine.
Avatar n tn Some of what you list is common to hypothyroidism. Dental problems like you describe apparently are not uncommon--I seriously, seriously doubt dental problems like yours could have anything to do with stress. Gray hair can appear as a result of accompanying vitiligo, another autoimmune disorder. Tiredness, dry skin, inability to lose weight are all signs of hypothyroidism. Any autoimmune diseases in your family (not necessary for you to have hypothyroid, but would be another factor).
1464587 tn?1307491605 What meds are you on? Also, someone commented here recently (ewford?) about some types of infections that sometimes accompany Lyme (mycoplasma?) can cause termporary hair loss. You might try to search this forum for 'hair loss' if no one pops up with an answer. Sorry not to be more helpful.
Avatar n tn Zoloft made my hair really fall out. I am totally off of meds and have been for 5 months. I feel the need to start my meds again but am terrified of the hair loss. My mohter is almost completely bald on top. She has never taken anxiety or depression meds but has needed them for years because she is totally stresses and jsut a miserably unhappy person. I wonder if the stress has beent he cause of her hair loss. I feel like I am my mom made over without the meds.
Avatar n tn Yeah stress can be an issue, however have you ever heard of Polycystic Ovarian Disease or otherwise known as PCO or PCOS. I have this and it can cause irregular periods, acne, hair loss, facial hair or excess body hair, bloating or weight gain, insulin resistance, infertility, ovarian cysts and hormonal imbalances. I have had this for many years and it is treatable once you are aware of it. First of all you need to be tested just to be sure. Ask your OBGYN to test you for this.
Avatar f tn never heard of this being a symptom of HCV unless treating. the HCV treatment drugs can cause hair loss.
