Avatar n tn Sometimes cats at the humane society aren't very clean. This can cause a worse reaction. Also, some cats have more dander than others and are more difficult to be around. I'd go ahead and get another cat.
Avatar f tn He used to suffer when anywhere near cats but for some reason they picked up a stray cat and wouldn’t you know it, ever since then these symptoms started and have been getting worse. My theory is that the constant assault of the cat dander is causing an autoimmune issue which is making his glands swollen which in turn are pushing on the nerves in his should which go into his arms. Is this possible? Is there a way to determine this to be the case short of getting rid of the cat?
Avatar f tn i have a deviated septum and both ears hurt, sinuses wont drain, i get infections, my doctor wont keep me on antibiotics for longer then a month, so infections comes back even worse, now my ears hurt i get soreness by cheekbones and eyebrows, and even back of my head from left ear to right ear is sore, feels like bruises, i finally went to ent and without even asking me anyquestions she said i have menieres disease, cause my hearing test showed i cant hear certain high pitch sounds, and my eardr
1232362 tn?1333135406 I figure if people can build up resistance to antihistamines that it would be reasonable to assume that the same thing can happen to the cat. I generally give her the Zyrtec when the allergies are bothering her the most so that I don't give her too much.
Avatar n tn Hi there, Welcome to the cat community forum. I see you joined Med help recently. I agree with AKC_75. The fact that the sneezing has lasted a month and that there is sometimes mucus when she sneezes makes me suspect an upper-respiratory infection. I would take your fur baby to her vet so your vet can examine her and make sure it isn't an upper respiratory infection which she will need medication to clear it up.
Avatar m tn Hi allergenic, I just finished reading your comments. You said you were holding a cat the other day, stroking and petting the cat. You also stated you had no asthma. Are you aware that male cats have more dander than female cats. I know this because I had allergies too to several different things. I 'd like to say that your allergies are getting better, but I doubt it. I'm guessing you've had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies.
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
Avatar f tn or if I can stand the symptoms then I can keep her around... is this a problem that will become serious or can I just keep her around? Please reply.

4963258 tn?1395602072 I've always had allergies but they seem to be wayyy worse since I've been pregnant. Anyone else have the same issues?
Avatar n tn Do you have a good mattress cover to prevent dust mites? I know my asthma is worse when my allergies are acting up. Do you have any food allergies? Have you considered allergy shots for pets, etc? Hopefully this helps. Good luck fellow asthma sufferer!
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
1474611 tn?1416632958 My cat is so itchy. He's got little tiny bumps under his chin, behind both ears (right one is worse). He very rarely goes out. And when he does, he's not out for more than maybe 10 minutes. He's 2.5 years old, weighs about 15 pounds, and has short fur. His diet hasn't changed in the whole time I've had him. Flea stuff doesn't seem to help him either. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn ve had them since they were kittens. This year I started to develop an allergy to them. Its gotten worse and worse and now I can't even pat them with out breaking out into hives.. Is there any reason this happens?
11389935 tn?1417796609 Hi KCLover, Your Boyfriends cold was HIS. Your cat probably has allergies or an Upper Respiratory Infection (cat cold). Now if you cat has the herpes virus and this URI is one of the symptoms, your older cat can catch it from her. Although if they have been together for sometime they are both immune or both infected already. Theses URI will happen several times a year.
Avatar f tn But since you found bumps under his chin, it’s more likely allergies. I believe that you can get some otc sprays for cats that are itching. I know you can buy stuff for hotspots for cats and that helps with itching. There are also products made for cats that have hydrocortisone in them. Just be sure to really check them out and read about them before you get them. Some vets suggest Claritin for cats with allergies. But I don’t know the dosage. You would need to Google that.

Avatar f tn We recently found a cat around our house and eventually it began coming inside. It now has red sores on hind leg and belly. They did go away a bit ago but now they came back and are worse. He is constantly licking and hair loss. Now he has licked the skin bare and the sores are getting really red. He had these about a month ago and he ate/drank fine. Then they seemed to go away for a bit but now came back worse.
1116122 tn?1268496794 Hi, I get allergy shots for cat dander and pollens. Mine are covered under preventive care and are 90% covered. I had Rush and Rush day is kind of expensive. I take Xyzal (antihistamine) and Nasacort (steroid nasal spray) for allergies. Both are prescription medications. Benadryl works and it's OTC, but is really sedating and you have to take it several times a day. Tammy2009 is right about cat bathing.
267076 tn?1270674331 I had a hysterectomy and gall bladder surgery several years ago (about 20-25 yrs). Over the years I've had pain off and on in my abdomen. Usually it would last only a day or two. I've had MRI's, Cat scans, xrays, colonostomy, the Drs's couldn't find any reason for the pain so thought maybe it was just gas. One Dr suggested adhesions but said nothing could be done. Lately the pain has gotten much worse and is lasting for days. I'm seeing a new Dr.
7165624 tn?1395647767 I have allergies im wondering if i can buy certain pills or what do you do when u get them??
Avatar n tn Although I am a smoker I had been attributing recent episodes of breathlessness with allergies. Because if my cat had been in my room and I go to bed I will awake coughing with my nostrils closed up so I would get up take Nyquil and go back to sleep. Everytime that would happen during the day if I tried to nap it would always be when the cat was lying near and during the day when the problem would arise I would take Dayquil and my nostril opens and the coughing would cease.
Avatar m tn Hi, just had a question. I get ringing in my ears that both my family doc and ENT says are caused from allergies. It comes and goes, somedays it's barly noticeable, somedays it's worse, it's similar to if you clench your teeth, it's that same noise, I take nasonex everyday as suggested by my ENT. I do gave a clicking in my jaw, so now I'm half wondering if its TMJ, or if its because I still have my wisdom teeth?
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
Avatar m tn In the past I have taken Zyrtec, Claritin, and Xyzal....Zyrtec seems to work best for me. You can get both Zyrtec and Claritin over the counter, and both come in a generic form (I take the generic form of Zyrtec). This helped my allergies tremendously, I would recommend taking one daily while your symptoms are in full-force, and then backing off to just whenever it's needed when your symptoms settle down.
