18663 tn?1198171815 Hi, I am taking several drugs for a heart condition (Coumadin, Amiodorone, Pravastatin, Carvedilol, Terazosin, Diovan, Aspirin). Is it possible that heart drugs can cause hearing loss? If so - is the hearing loss permanent? Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn Cimetidine (Tagamet), famotidine (Pepcid AC) or ranitidine (Zantac) can all help with any gastro-intestinal irritation, (can happen with Kidney Failure) There are appetite stimulants....there are drugs which can increase blood flow to the kidneys, (ACE inhibitors) and can be helpful if your dog's heart is healthy (otherwise they may not be prescribed) There are Phosphate-binders, such as Calcium Carbonate or Aluminium Hydroxide, and others which can be prescribed.
15945427 tn?1444236393 I will go home and add another 250 cc The UA displayed crystals not normal more like antifreeze but there is NO way i have looked everywhere high and low it is impossible. I also have 4 other dachshunds. I explained to the vet and she said can just be kidney failure period. Moderate Failure. My question is can bird seed or bird poop cause this as well? Also am i doing everything i can do ? Please reply asap.
Avatar n tn Thanks Terri, Just for clarification, am I reading correctly that the comment by Sony69 is incorrect and this drug does not cause renal failure? I have never had kidney problems of any kind that I am aware of. Also, with respect to the hypertinsion issue, I am 46 and you are correct that I do need to loose weight, about 20 or 25 lbs. Also, I do have a family history of heart disease. My father had a heart attack, high blood pressure congestive heart failure etc.
Avatar f tn 1.Hills K/D Canine prescription diet or Royal Canin Renal Failure diets (or other prescription failure diet) 2. Epakitin, Phos-Lo or other phosphate binder if there is high phosphorus levels in the blood. 3. Azodyl which helps relieve the body of excess kidney enzyme blood levels via the digestive tract. 4. Additional probiotics to help maximize GI function. 5. Sub Cutaneous fluid therapy to be administered at home 6.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 14 year old female that is currently freaking out. I was an idiot, and checked online for the symptoms of kidney failure because I had back pain around where the kidneys are... Symptoms included, pain around the kidneys, swollen ankles of pain in the ankles, you get tired after walking up a flight of stairs..lol all of which I experience, also, when I urinate, I don't feel like all of the urine has come out of me....
Avatar n tn Oh no. I am so sorry, but it appears your dog is now in definite kidney failure. Once those tissues are damaged, they cannot regenerate. The liver is capable of that, but not kidneys. Your vet appears to be of an old-fashioned school regarding kidney failure. It's not so much the protein that is the problem. Protein does not cause kidney failure, and many studies show that protein doesn't really make things worse.
675347 tn?1365460645 Sometimes our pets are prescribed drugs for other health conditions that adversely affect the kidneys and the result is kidney failure. Even some antibiotics can cause it. Cancer treatment drugs can cause it. The normal aging process can cause it. I don't know if it's so much a case of more animals being diagnosed with it as it is a case of more people becoming acutely aware of their animals' health and vets having better diagnostic tools these days than 20 or 30 years ago.
Avatar f tn Also as he has heart failure and the point of his meds is to get rid of fluid but if he has kidney failure he needs lots of fluid ie the vets flushing his kidneys, can this be done on him with his heart problem? I have read a few things about kidney failure saying give low protein but others say give high quality protein so whats best please? Also have read give low phosphorus and give TUMS to him but is this ok? how do i know how much to give a tiny yorkie?
Avatar f tn You could have an obstruction or an infection in the kidney. I was quite close to dying from kidney failure when I was given the wrong antibiotics to take. This is nothing to mess around with. Please go to the ER, see a urologist, GP or urgent care.
Avatar m tn My German Shepherd has lepto. Her creatinine is currently above 800 so she's in stage 4 kidney failure. She is at the vets on IV and antibiotics. Tomorrow we will do another blood test. I'm just curious as to her chances. When they increased her flow today her kidneys couldn't handle it and was starting to get "crackles" when she listened to her heart and breathing. What are her chances ??
Avatar f tn If it is kidney disease pregnancy can cause kidney failure if its not kept an eye on. So i hope they find something soon. I kind of expected to be hospitalized at one point this pregnancy because of kidney issues though.
Avatar f tn On Aug. 31st my dog was diagnosed with Kidney Failure. Her creatinine was at a 8. As of almost 2 weeks ago it went down to a 2. I have been giving her 6 cc's of fluid subcutaneously. As also Aluminum Hydroxide Gel, USP 5 mL after she eats. Along with PancrePlus as she basically has chronic pancreatitis since 2011 and I can only feed her either boiled chicken & rice or science diet I/D or she starts to tremble in pain.
Avatar f tn No major visible damage to kidneys, minor signs of chronic kidney disease in an ultrasound but they said nowhere near end stage chronic kidney disease. After 2 days of fluids and a brief treatment with antibiotics (which they discontinued when culture came back negative) his creatine was down to 1.6, BUN of 74 and they sent him home on a kidney diet.
Avatar f tn Anyway, I heard that it can cause to kidney failure doing this. Is this true? Or does it just lead to a kidney infection? I'm kinda worried now in case I've damaged myself. My urine is quite dark, but I've taken a sample to my GP, and she's told me that the colour is within the 'normal' colour scale. How would I know if there was anything wrong, or should I be alright?
Avatar f tn Drug overdoses, whether accidental or from chemical overloads of drugs such as antibiotics or chemotherapy, may also cause the onset of acute kidney failure. Unlike in chronic kidney disease, however, the kidneys can often recover from acute failure, allowing the patient to resume a normal life. People suffering from acute failure require supportive treatment until their kidneys recover function, and they often remain at an increased risk of developing future kidney failure.
Avatar f tn Hi, chronic renal failure could be caused by various things, eg.

Avatar m tn Swollen legs may be a sign of heart failure, kidney failure, or liver failure. In these conditions, there is too much fluid in the body•infections, such as cellulitis. Why were there antibiotics prescribed?
Avatar f tn Constantly losing blood in the urine can cause anemia, even if it is occult. Stones can sometimes cause kidney failure. Chronic kidney failure can cause anemia. This is due to a decreased secretion of the hormone erythropoietin. This hormone is a necessary stimulus for normal bone marrow to produce red blood cells. Just cautioning you. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar m tn These involuntary movements could be myoclonus which may develop in response to infection, stroke, brain tumors, head or spinal cord injury, liver or kidney failure, multiple sclerosis, lupus etc. side effects of certain drugs like tramadol and antibiotics like quinolones and anticholinergics. It can occur in epiliepsy. Treatment would include discontinuation of drugs suspected to be the cause; metabolic derangements need to be resolved.
