1846163 tn?1331048748 m not quite sure if the contrandication is a result of the Incivek elevating the plasma concentration of the statin or the statin lowering exposure and loss of efficacy of the Incivek but it's one or the other.
Tbd Any one else taking Caduet for both high blood pressure and cholesetol, and has show to be effective.
255163 tn?1376869746 Should I be on a statin. I have a des 4 yrs. Taking plavix aspirin, atenolol, simvastatin. My primary wants to take me off the statin. My chol is about 156, ldl 45, hdl 95 ,tri under 60.And I am diabetic. Last a1c 6.3. Is it safe to go off the statin.
Avatar f tn It has dropped my LDL to 39-45 range and blood glucose ranges from 105-111 fasting. A1c 5.1 - 5.3. Prior to the statin I was below 100. I am not overweight, exercise consistently and eat very healthy. So the statin is the culprit. I am wondering if being stricter on carb intake and supplementing with Berberine will help? Or has anyone had better outcomes with other statins like livalo or pravastatin?
Avatar n tn Are you sure the statin is the cause of the gout? If so then Doctor should recommend change in statin....there are many out there to choose from.
Avatar n tn Your LDL is high, so it would be a good idea to take a low dose statin to improve it. Your LDL should be 100 or lower. You can, however, lower LDL by eliminating red meat. In one year time, you should see a considerable drop in LDL level. Also, salmon, nuts, omega 3 is good for the heart. Eat lots of fresh vegetables (not canned) and fruit, brown rice. What are your triglycerides? Your HDL is good.
1441140 tn?1284085241 Due to a recently elevated (since menopause) LDL of 164, my PCP strongly recommended a low dose statin. (My total cholesterol is newly high as well at 278.) Diet and exercise have not been effective to reduce it and it clearly runs in my family---both parents and three of my four siblings are taking statins. (The one who's not is vegan, suggesting that diet can effect cholesterol.) I am a 54 y.o.
148588 tn?1465778809 I wondering how many here taking Incivek or Victrellis were questioned about whether they take a statin by the doctor prescribing their protease inhibitor. http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/SafetyInformation/SafetyAlertsforHumanMedicalProducts/ucm294294.
Avatar f tn I have very high liver enzyme values from statin use. I've been off of statins since 5-28-10. Can damage be reversed?
539156 tn?1281818356 My symptoms in detail are in my journal, but my main trouble is neuropathy in hands and feet and fatugue. I am lucky in that pain isn't my main problem. I have had several tests: MRI of neck and lumbar, GTT, B12, folate, anemia, EMG. The GTT revealed a pre-diabetic condition, EMG shows nerve damage to feet, but no nerve damage to hands. The most affected limb is my left hand. Its function is compromised.. So, next will be an MRI to the brain.
Dog I have not heard of this association. In my patients who have trouble tolerating statin therapy due to sore muscle I will recommend them taking Co-enzyme Q10 to reduce these symptoms. Hope this helps!
1463256 tn?1286028981 Again, these could be statin damage. Most doctors seem to think statin side effects are due to something else so they do not report them, and because they do not report them as side effects they do not see them on any side effect list.
Avatar f tn I'm 62, and after being diagnosed with "high cholesterol about 12 years ago, I've been on simvastatin (20mg). This has always been an entirely "preventative" measure. No heart disease, I'm skinny (120lbs), don't smoke, hardly drink. Get exercize. I'd love to stop taking the statin given the data on possible muscle damage and cognitive issues. Without taking the statin my recent numbers are HDL 63, LDL 152, overall 235, with a ratio of 3.7.
Avatar m tn The single-center, prospective GREACE trial originally compared statin treatment with usual care (which could include a statin) with regard to survival effects in 1,600 patients with coronary artery disease. Study participants were under age 75, had serum concentrations of LDL cholesterol over 2.6 mmol/L, and had triglycerides under 4.5 mmol/L.
Avatar f tn Your LDL is well above the recommended level of 130 and a statin will be the quickest way to reduce it. A statin can reduce your LDL by an average of 42% in a matter of weeks. You may also opt to make some lifestyle changes before starting a statin with exercise and diet with your doctor's guidance and retest in 90 days. Much depends on your other risk factors such as weight, BP and smoking. Personally, I take a statin and have for years with no issues.
Avatar n tn are you on a statin? I stopped Simvastatin "cold turkey" (bad mistake!
Avatar m tn I am currently on my 4th statin med since last fall to lower my LDL. I have had some intense muscle and joint pain in the past, which is why my doctor has been changing my statin type and dosage. We're trying to find the right combo. I have a history of CAD and PAD, have had a femoral stent, and am a smoker.(59 yo male, btw). Does anyone know if I can substitute 20 mg Lipitor for my 20 mg Simvastatin, which I just ran out of?
3046028 tn?1340538562 I have started a diet and watching very carefully of what I eat, I am about 50 pounds overweight, my cholesterol was 274, Triyclerides - 141, HDL 55 and LDL 201, the medical profession has scared me to the point i am worrrying constantly because they tell me to take a statin. Don't want one cause of my extreme allergies. I know the number aren't good but how bad are they. My bp runs high too, I do take Norvasc for that. I just want to talk to others out here that can offer so support.
Avatar f tn You don’t mention dose and you make no mention of any side effects. Both drugs in Rosvin F (statin and fibrate) are generally well tolerated. Neither are drugs one takes “for a month.” Rather, they are lifetime drugs that will keep you in tip-top CV health with more benefit correlating with duration of treatment. If you discontinue treatment, all your lipid levels will return to where they were (unless you have made HUGE lifestyle changes).
Avatar n tn s odd that Simvastatin affected your liver as it is much less powerful than your current statin. Either way, tell your doctor to get an exception with insurance company, all they need is his OK.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know, if you start taking statin drugs if you have to be on them for life? Or after being on a statin to lower your cholesterol, you can stop taking them if you are successful in lowering your numbers.
Avatar m tn I have battled high cholesterol for most of my adult life and am now at 170 (total) with the aid of a statin drug. I have seen some reports that say that even though statins reduce cholesterol numbers there isn't the expected correlation with reduced incidence of heart disease. Is that true? And if so, why should I continue taking a statins and risk liver damage?
Avatar n tn Do a MedScape search on Statin Adverse Effects: Nonmuscle Statin AEs. This is an article from the American Journal of Cardiovascular Drugs 2008; 8(6) 373-418. It says "Muscle is highly aerobically dependent and selectively vulnerable to mitochondrial pathology.
