bystolic side effects weight gain

My doctor recently switched me to Bystolic - and I was given "samples" for a month but no instruction sheet or counter-indications as far as drug interaction. Would there be any problem with the above that I am taking and this drug? Also, I just lost (and want to continue to lose weight) 16 pounds on a diet program and don't want to regain that weight! Does Bystolic cause weight gain?

I take Bystolic too and I have also noticed a weight gain. I too haven't changed my eating habits. I am beginning to think it's the Bystolic because I usually can lose weight very easily, but I can't lose it now at all no matter what I do. You mentioned your systolic readings, mine do the same thing in the afternoons.

Other side effects include weight gain, high cholesterol (on my last blood test TOTAL chol went from about 200 to 266),sexual side-effects (low libido),fatigue and worst of all my last blood pressure reading was high (150/100). On the plus side, this beta-blocker seems to provide the best heart rate control and did not cause me sleep problems, nightmares, cold hands and feet etc..

Yest I cannot take the weight gain, which is a side effect that a high percentage of people who take it have gained lots of weight. You can go to "ask a patient".com and look up what people have written about side effects of many, many drugs. Bystolic is not listed. It is fairly new in the US, but has been approved for use in Europe for quite some time.

I agree, BYSTOLIC appears to control and relax the heart rate like no other beta blocker I was ever prescribed. My experience during the past couple of months with BYSTOLIC (5 mg) are excellent heart rate control, no gastro issues, anti anxiety effect and good sleep. The negative effects have been knee pain, stiff and heavy legs, especially when using stairs, low libido (loss of morning erections), and fatigue.

Atenolol made me worse too. I had a really bad period last year when I was in the ER 5 times and in the hospital once. Even had a couple of episodes of afib. My doctor suggested bystolic. It has worked very well for the last year, I have been very pleased with it. In fact, I didn't switch my insurance this year because the alternative company did not want to authorize the use of the bystolic (it's a lot more expensive).

The Dr put me on Bystolic, but it was samples and there is no information on side effects. I have started having stomach problems and acid reflux lately. Can the Bystolic be causing this? What would be other good choices?

I would ask the doctor about a lower dose. What are you on the medication for? If your weight gain was sudden, it should be reported to your doctor. Good luck to you.

I been on Bystolic for sometime now/ I didn't realize there were side effects to this pill? I have some of those side effects you are talking about. I'm not sure which pill I take might be cause of it. I have the wakefulness at night and I take Bystolic in the mornings. Ihave dizziness and not sure if it's this pill because I have had dizziness before? I have up n down or highs and lows with my blood pressure.

Hi, welcome to the forum, seroquel is known to be associated with weight gain. There is significant weight gain is seen, in such cases usually other anti psychotics are prescribed. The weight gaining effect of this drug will not persist after discontinuation. Any associated condition should be looked for. If there is a change in voice (Voice becomes dusky), weight gain, intolerance to cold etc. You need to get your T3, t4 and TSH level checked as it may be in initial phase.

Just curious if anyone who is taking bystolic experiences side effects all the time, or if it is a gradual onset after dosing, or what? My side effects always seem to hit me in the late afternoon, early evening. I take my dose anytime between 6am and 7am.

I am a female,age 63 have been on Bystolic for about 2 years have knee and leg pain that seems to be getting worse.Have mentioned this to my Doctor he says not one of listed side effects so he blew me off.

This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. I was going to ask my doctor to change to Bystolic. Has anyone here had any success in changing over to Bystolic from Metoprolol ?

I have called my doctor numeroud times for the shortness of breath and to see if there is something I can switch to that would not have the same effects with the fatigue and shortness of breath, she assured me that the Bystolic does not exhibit those effects and it could not be the Bystolic doing this to me that the medication has no side effects that I need to be worried about. Yet online all of what I am feeling are stated as side effects of the medication.

It also makes me tired which I can handle that one but not the weight gain, I have had problems with my back in the past and when I put on weight my back hurts. I have nerve pain in my face and just pain in my face, what would be the other options I can talk to the dr about today? Would another pill from that line of pills be the same? I am going to talk to him about treatment of the other pain in my face if he don't want to then send me to a pain specialist that can treat all the pain.

I didn't have any side effects except pregnancy, lol but some people may have them although not sure about the specific ones you asked about.

I have been on Lexapro several times over the last 4 years for 6 months to 2 years at a time. I am having problems with the sexual side effects and the weight gain. It's actually less of a "weight gain" than a shift in body composition. My pants are too tight and my shirts are more fitted but I haven't actually gained a pound. I am a competitive runner and haven't changed my exercise or eating habits over the last 2 years.

Depending on how old you are it could just be a weight thing. Normally early 20s you gain weight and again in mid-40s where it becomes hard to lose the weight. (I'm too lazy to check your status to see if you have your age so those things may not apply).

I am taking it for slightly high blood pressure. As it happens, I also have frequent palpitations (for decades now). I find that Bystolic actually *does* decrease my palps, even though I did not expect that! BTW, this is the only blood pressure medication I've ever taken that seems to be without nasty side effects. The first week, I felt as though I might have had a bit too much to drink, but since then, I can't even tell that I'm taking anything.

The weight gain no doubt is due to fluid retention which is one of the side effects. You might discuss changing drugs with your Oncologist as there are others available but keep in mind that they all have similar side effecfts even though you mjight not experience them to the same degree. Now they are thinking of Inderal, but it has more of these side effects that Bystolic. My dx just came today... Sino Atrial Node Dysfunction... of which I have started as another post.

Weight gain is one potential side effect of Cymbalta but it would also depend on your other medications and if they have this side effect as well. It would be worthwhile to speak to your psychiatrist about this and they could see how to adjust and/or change your medications as needed and also how this specific side effect could be addressed.

ve been on metoprolol before, and had some awful side effects with that one, but the bystolic seems to tame those down quite a bit for me. I've only had two instances in which I could tell I was experiencing some slight side effects (dizziness, slight shortness of breath, pressure). I've also been told by my GP that, if I find myself with a rapid heart rate or back in A-fib, I can take another 2.5mg dose right then, since it's such a small dosage.
