Common Questions and Answers about Bystolic and weight gain

bystolic

Avatar f tn My doctor recently switched me to Bystolic - and I was given "samples" for a month but no instruction sheet or counter-indications as far as drug interaction. Would there be any problem with the above that I am taking and this drug? Also, I just lost (and want to continue to lose weight) 16 pounds on a diet program and don't want to regain that weight! Does Bystolic cause weight gain?
Avatar m tn I was put on 2.5mg am and 5mgpm bystolic. I used to walk 4 miles and play good golf. I have put on weight i have no engegy to walk nor desire .My golf is now poor tired after 12 holes. any "effort tires me. Am 81 and always felt much younger. no longer. I wonder if less would make a difference. I couldn,t even finish a stress test.
Avatar n tn has helped with B/P but added nightmares, aches and pains, blue moods, inactivity, weight gain, no desire to do anything but sit on the couch and watch TV.....that is getting old also.....weight gain is not good for B/P and yet the Beta Blockers cause weight gain.....go figure....I am also hypothyroid which has alot of the same effects on my body as the beta blockers, so I have a double whammy.....
Avatar m tn I take Bystolic too and I have also noticed a weight gain. I too haven't changed my eating habits. I am beginning to think it's the Bystolic because I usually can lose weight very easily, but I can't lose it now at all no matter what I do. You mentioned your systolic readings, mine do the same thing in the afternoons.
Avatar m tn Bystolic made me gain weight, interferred with my sleep, made my legs swell, and made my blood pressure go up. After gradually withdrawing from it, my blood pressure went down again.
214864 tn?1229715239 ve heard a lot of comments about Coreg and weight gain though. I like the adrenaline blocking affects of Coreg. With Coreg, when I get anxious, my heart doesn't get all loopy. I think for that in itself, the stuff is worth it. Sorry, don't know anything about Bystolic but am interested in learning more.
Avatar n tn I agree, BYSTOLIC appears to control and relax the heart rate like no other beta blocker I was ever prescribed. My experience during the past couple of months with BYSTOLIC (5 mg) are excellent heart rate control, no gastro issues, anti anxiety effect and good sleep. The negative effects have been knee pain, stiff and heavy legs, especially when using stairs, low libido (loss of morning erections), and fatigue.
Avatar m tn Recently I have begun having problems breathing and wondered if this was the onset of CHF. I will gain 5 and 6 pounds in a couple of days that I assume is fluid because it will go away quickly with the correct diuretic. My heart is enlarged but I have not been told why. I went from roofing a building to being in the hospital in a matter of 3 weeks...it has been downhill ever since. I just want to be able to walk and breathe again.
Avatar n tn I have been taking it for a year now and lately have been feeling light headed and slightly dizzy in the mornings when I wake up and then throughout the day. Is this a side effect of this drug? It was prescribed mainly for the rapid heart beats.
Avatar f tn I need some serious help here as I am having significant problems and the doctors don't seem to know what is wrong with me. I started taking Bystolic 5mg in early September of this year due to palpitations and an abnormally high resting heart rate. They can't find any cause with testing.
Avatar n tn My blood pressure was first medicated with losartan, after early morning headcahes were waking me. Years later that symptom returned, and bystolic was added. Things were great for years again. My new symptoms include a widening gap between the upper number and lower number-the lower number has dropped into the 60's and my upper number has risen to 150's to 180's, yet I weigh less now than when I started bystolic.
Avatar m tn I would like to know if an increase in my Bystolic and lisinopril will cause and increase in weight loss. My Cardiologist increased my byistolic too 10mg., and my lisinopril to 40mg. on the 1st of Febuary 2010, and I have lost a total of 11 pounds since being on them, my weight stayed steady prevous to that time.
280234 tn?1532986249 Some of us can gain weight, lose weight, or stay the same on these meds. It's really hard to say how we'll do on any of them unless we give them a try. Anxiety can make your BP go up. I've always had the same problem when I see my Dr. The white coat hypertension. I take my BP at home on a regular basis and it's always normal. So, I take those numbers to my Dr. Of course I still have it checked in the office too.
Avatar m tn for the past 2 weeks,i have been going to walmart walgreens and rite aid and have been sitting down for 5 minutes and then putting my arm in the cuff and measuring my vital signs. my systolic blood pressure was always 160-180 and i never had a reading lower than 160. my diastolic was anywhere from 99-105. my heart rate was from 110-128 all the time. i have had many lab tests and everything is fine..metabolic panel and thyroid and i had a cardiac workup which was fine too.
Avatar n tn I am a 52 year old male, I am over weight but have lost 103 pounds. Now my resting heart rate is 58 to 60,, is that ok? I've been taking bystolic for a long time.
116881 tn?1189755823 My Dr just took me off of Hyzaar and has put me on 5 mgs of Bystolic per day to control skipped beats and my HBP. Well, the skips are much better but my pressure is still up and my pulse is really low for me -- like in the mid 50's!!! I feel like garbage. I have only been on it for a week. My Dr wants me to stick it out a little longer. So her I am needing take one today for my BP but my pulse is sooooo low. ANyone else on Bystolic? Will this get better?
3086858 tn?1340852861 s impossible to give you a specific recommendation without looking at all your test, but in general it is extremely important to specify what type of tachycardia you have to justify a high dose of Bystolic. A high dose of beta blocker (BB) by itself (e.g. Bystolic) can produce extreme fatigue in some patients. If you have sinus tachycardia it should not be treated with BB.
Avatar f tn This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. I was going to ask my doctor to change to Bystolic. Has anyone here had any success in changing over to Bystolic from Metoprolol ?
Avatar m tn My Cadiologist Recently prescribed Bystolic 5 Mg tablets I per day . I have since begun having dizzy spells Can they be a side effect from the Bystolic?
Avatar m tn I have been taking bystolic for several years and for me it seems to work much better than atenolol or lopressor, without all the side effects. I have had to up my dosage a couple of times and right at first my stomach will feel a little off and I may get a very slight headache but it goes away quickly.
Avatar n tn My wife took Bystolic and had a stroke the next morning. They put her on Clot buster so she didn't take it for 4 days. She took it and had another stroke.
Avatar m tn I have been having a constant chest pounding and pain radiating all over my left and right breast area, all tests done proved negative for heart condition but the pain rather than decreasing, seem to be increasing in intensity. I am on LISINOPRIL-HCTZ 20-25MG and BYSTOLIC for HBP I am also on PRAVASTATIN for Cholesterol. I recently had to stop the Bystolic because my heart rate was low between 45-62.
Avatar m tn I also felt bad joint pain and gained a significant amount of weight during the month I was on Bystolic (about 10 to 15 pounds). I researched Bystolic and found that all these symptoms occur in other people who take Bystolic, and so I decided to get off of it (with the permission of the other doctors). I gradually weaned off of the medicine over a period of a little over two weeks. I stopped taking it on June 16.
Avatar f tn then put me on Bystolic, 5 mg, 1 x daily. I have been on the Bystolic for 3 weeks and the leg pain is back. Have appt with family Dr. tomorrow morning to talk with him again. I believe that it is the beta blocker that causes the pain and am now wondering if all beta blockers would cause it. Has anyone else had leg pain on the atenolol or bystolic? Also, can anyone else tell me of any other type of medicine that helped to lower heart rate other that a beta blocker?
Avatar m tn LIke other beta blockers, the most common adverse events with Bystolic are headache, fatigue and dizziness. However, the manufacturer states studies have shown that Bystolic was well tolerated, with a low incidence of traditional beta blocker side effects. In addition, Bystolic decreases vascular peripheral resistance, improves left ventricular performance and is not associated with decreases in cardiac output sometimes seen with the initiation of other beta blockers.
